We were recently just here on vacation. We went for a late lunch early dinner. We walked in the server asked how many people when we replied 7 she huffed is frustration quite loudly. My husband ordered a frozen strawberry margarita as he saw them newly advertised when first walking in When our waitress walked away you could hear her i the kitchen yell Anyone know how to make a damn Margarita. When he did receive the margarita it was undrinkable to which the waitress well im not a bartender… Unfortunately the waitresses non verbal and even verbal antics mde you feel very uncomfortable and like an annoyance. Luckily most of our group loves the food. The crab cakes were delicious! The bisque was really good besides the strange piece os carrots. My Dad really like his grouper sandwitch. But my brother inlaws burger was charred. he was also charged 7 $(a dinner salad price) for a side salad the waitreas argued with him and even the manager? Who eventually took care of it… delicious crab cakes though …

I really went to this restaurant based on a recommendation from a local resident who indicated this is where the locals go. I had to go to a meeting, so I went a little early and found the restaurant empty, except for one couple. I told the waitress I was new and the other couple advised that I try the gumbo. It was very good with a little kick. For dinner I tried the special — the mullet. The waitress suggested I order the fried fillets with the skin on, which she indicated was the preferred way to eat it. It was very fishy and had almost no flavor. It was a little better if I took off the skin. I could not finish my order. One side was the cole slaw, which was very average and mostly tasteless. The second side was the hushpuppies, which were ok, but tasted a little burnt in places. To top everything off, even the water had an unusual flavor, kind of a bleach taste. It is a very casual atmosphere, with wood paneled walls and old style metal tables. The waitress was attentive, and service was as expected from a very local place. Needless to say, regardless of where the locals go, I will not be back.

I had some hope for this neighborhood place under new ownership but I was disappointed. The fried food with canned/frozen veggies has gone unchanged. I was particularly turned off by lighting provided by clamp on shop lights.

It has new owners. Was good before and even better now. Has a laid back, country atmosphere and good bluegrass music. We’ve always enjoyed the fresh catch menu. The smoked tuna dip is amazing. The Royal Red shrimp is always great, and the gator bites are prepared well here. Wait staff is always very friendly and makes you feel at home. This is definitely a place frequented by locals more than tourists, and it’s worth the drive.

Be advised to call first because they’re only open a few days a week. Really like they’re fried oyster sandwich, but their french fries are meh.

If you like fresh well prepared seafood this is NOT the place to go. The baked potato was delicious.

This is a total dive joint out away from most of the tourist hoopla. I wasn’t a fan of the fried mullet sandwich and I would never get that again but the other offerings on the menu are much better and offered at some of the best prices around. The gumbo is ok for the area(which is a polite way of saying they don’t make it like we do in NOLA) and they have a nice key lime pie. Live music on Friday and Saturday make this an interesting spot with some interesting folks having a good time.

On our last night of vacation we ate dinner here. This was by far the best meal of the week. The staff was very hands on and friendly. This is must go to place.

Good gator tail! A bit of a dive, but it’s got gator and sometimes that’s not all that easy to find! Out of the way and truly local if you’re looking for something quiet and still tasty, come here and get the gator!

Went three times. Had the worst service and the fish was dried out and cold. Will never go back

Great food and great service. The pointe is a tradition for our family. I always get the royal red shrimp for an appetizer, delicious! They have a large selection of fresh seafood. The mullet fillet is a good choice. The sides are excellent, try the cheese grits and the new potatoes.

This is the real deal. One of the few remaining chances to taste the actual regional cuisine, and not an overpriced, bland, tourist-friendly version. Healthy? Trendy? Upscale? Nope. Just good food at a fair price. The décor may have looked the same for most of my life, and is definitely a little worse for the wear, but I actually see that as part of its charm. There are not many of these spots left. I go out of my way to stop by this place when I’m in that part of the country, and have for many years. It deserves more love than it gets, be smart and check it out!

We eat out a lot! This has to be the most disgusting food ever. And boy is it dirty! My 8 year old refused to use the bathroom. Compared them to NYC subway bathrooms! No one finished our food. My husband(who never complains about food) said«The thought crossed my mind to go home and throw up!» Yes it was that bad! Go to the Oyster Bar instead. Heck even a gas station is a step up.

This place is disgusting! We were eating and saw a huge roach crawling on the kitchen door! i was with my family of 7 and we all saw it! i wish we could’ve taken a picture! The owner didn’t even want to come out and discus the situation with us. He gave us a 10% discount! We saw a huge roach as we were eating and that’s the best they could do! We addressed the staff and they acted like it was our problem. Please call the Escambia County Health Department if you see any more cockroaches due to health reasons,(850)494−5155

Pretty sweet bluegrass band the day we were there. Cheap wine. Delicious seafood bisque. The rest of the food was pretty good(I had the amberjack, but most of the table had mullet and everyone liked it). I did clog an artery with the potatoes, which were literally sitting in a half cup of melted butter. This was on top of the cajun butter I ordered for my fish. It hurts so good. Service was decent, too. There was a huge ado about nothing to seat our group of 8. It took about 5 minutes to resolve and the restaurant was barely half full. Maybe no one liked the look of us? Anyway, if you’re in the area, go and enjoy. It’ll be a unique people-watching experience — unless you’re coming from the Florabama, and then it’s going to be a classy experience.

The Point Restaurant offers unpretentious seafood at cheap prices. I’m not sure which I liked better… my lightly battered bay shrimp or my crisp hush puppies and buttery new potatoes. The food is casual, but so good! The atmosphere is Redneck Riviera with a touch of bluegrass music in the background. Not the spot to take a first date, but definitely a spot to kick back with some oysters and beer. The waitresses are so friendly and attentive. Save room for the peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream!

I went here for the first time on a friday evening. The atmosphere of this place is great. It really is a local’s hotspot. I sat at the bar and met many nice people, including the waitress/bartender. The blue grass music was amazing. I had raw oysters, fried mullet without the bones, and beer. Everything was delicious, and fresh tasting. And the price was dirt cheap – especially the beer! The rolling rock on tap was about 1.10 $’ and sweetwater beer was around 2.50 $. I’ll be back!

The Original Point Restaurant, I’m sue packs them in in the summer time, why it’s strictly the food and service. The point is a restaurant that’s in desperate need of a facelift. The cuisine on the other hand is excellent. Everything here is Southern, meaning fried or blackened. No calorie counting here. I ordered the fried pickled and the blackened trigger fish. All I can say was my gosh both were excellent. Fried pickles, really! But it works you should try it. The hush puppies, OMG there good. On Friday and Saturday nights they have a bluegrass band, I’m sure they liven things up a bit.

This is down home Florida at it’s best, y’all! It’s definitely a hole in the wall but ain’t that where you get the best food? We ate here for the second time this past summer. I was all set to try the famous royal red shrimp but I was lured away by the fresh catch of the day: cobia. This was my first time eating cobia, which is a mild white fish, and I was not disappointed. I chose the Cajun butter preparation, which was quite buttery but incredibly delicious. Our table also enjoyed some yummy smoked tuna dip and crab claw appetizers. The talented house bluegrass band, Bubba & Them, is really fun. They play all the bluegrass standards. I don’t quite understand why they don’t play outside in the huge patio/back yard area instead of in amongst the dining tables. Maybe there’s a noise ordinance since the restaurant is in kind of a residential area? Maybe I’ll ask next time I’m there.

Good dinner, right next to an interesting blue grass band… Great seafood, down home southern feel to the place and the staff, quick attentive service, and real real cheap prices. So why the 3? This bluegrass band, which apparently they are known for, just stands there. Playing. The whole time. No stage, they just line up next to the tables, while everyone is eating. It’s… in a word… interesting. As for the food, locally caught fish, deep fried crab claws, oysters, mullet(the fish not the hair) cooked in every way possible, gumbo, bisque, fried pickles, everything you would expect. And it’s all pretty good. Wrap up; 3 people ate, and ate well. 3 apps, 3 meals, some great key lime pie to top it off, all for under a buck. Not bad at all! As for the eating experience itself… just that. An experience. Would go back.
