Steak ‘n Shake

very bad experience… found fly in orange shake. manager was so rude. Ain’t apologize. 1^st poor restaurant in USA ever…

We eat at steak and shake in Las Vegas a lot. I was eager to try one out in Illinois where they originally started. I have to say that the food and shake at this location were wonderful. Better than vegas, fresher. I was very happy with my burger and fries and chocolate covered strawberry shake. The service in Vegas is spot on, so it was a bit slower here, but all good, everyone was nice.

Sat in the drive through for 10 minutes waiting for someone to get to me on the speaker. I said something twice and got a response of «ill be right with you». After ten minutes i left and went to mcdonalds across the street. All i wanted was a strawberry milk shake. Its cheaper at mcdonalds anyway.

I ordered the taco salad, surprisingly cheap at less than $ 4. You get what you pay for, and in this case it wasn’t much. It was iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing poured on top. Over that there were some black crumbles that looked like very old burned meat that had been scraped off the grill, and over the lettuce and black stuff was shredded cheese. I gave this only one star because the meat was unidentifiable, and there were approximately two forkfuls of it on top of the salad. The salad was plain iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing. On a taco salad? There were no tomatoes. The whole thing was weird and my stomach did this little unhappy rumble dance for about three days afterwards.
My friend got the mushroom Swiss burger. After eating about half of it she showed me this — squeezed the bun and grease was dripping from the bottom half. It was soaked and soggy. She threw out the rest.

I have always liked Steak n Shake, but I never had heard of their breakfast menu until today! I would rate their breakfast options on the five star scale as a 3. There are some things to try that you’d typically see on a menu at any other breakfast joint. Skillets, egg classics, and biscuits and gravy. The service at this. Particular location was much slower than any other steak and Shake I have ever been to. I had 2 eggs over easy, biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns and sausage. The sausage was GROSS it didn’t seem to be made out of real sausage. I also had Orange Juice which was poured out of a Tropicana jug (I witnessed this) but it didn’t disappoint me too much cause they only charged me a buck. Overall in a hurry and looking for a quick way to get stuffed, Steak and Shake breakfast is something I’d definitely consider again. It’s better than McDonald’s and the eggs seem to actually be eggs.

I have been a fan of Steak n Shake since I was a child. I always make at least one stop when I visit my hometown. The food wad good and the Orange Freeze was refreshing…
They could do a bit of clean up behind the counter… looked pretty dirty. It did not deter me from my main mission… devouring the Garlic Double steakburger.

The late-​night crew had a good sense of humor when serving three drunk girls! I love how cheap Steak ‘n’ Shake is. Chicken fingers and fries were hot and crispy and satisfying at 1:30 am. It’s fast food, but it’s open late and it hits the spot after a night out!

Absolutely disgusting grease burgers! Can’t believe anyone could actually enjoy eating here! Went there after work one afternoon, and bought two double steak burgers and french fries, to go. upon returning home, I was treated to an enormous grease spot on the seat of my car. It seams the burgers were so greasy that they leaked thru the wrappers and the bag… after cleaning my seat, I was so disgusted that I threw the bag of «food“away… I will never eat there again!

This store is one of my favorites to go to. Service is at least 90% of the time great at times slow and certain waiters/​waitress need a little work but in general staff if friendly and store is clean.
