Beautiful and delicious food. It is the best Japanese restaurant in Petaluma. There are the basic rolls like the California roll, which are good, but their specialty rolls are outstanding. I’ve never left there disappointed.

Best sushi I have had in a long time! The fish was extremely fresh and generous cuts, the rolls were huge, and the flavors incredible. The service was great, and the staff very friendly as well. We will definitely be going back!

Gohan is a great Japanese restaurant in Petaluma. I’ve been coming here with my family since they first opened and have never been disappointed. The quality of the food is always top-notch. I love coming here for lunch because of their lunch specials, which comes with a bowl of miso soup and a side of chopped cucumbers in a sweet soy sauce. I have had their bento boxes, and my mom especially loves the Executive Bento box which comes with tempura, California rolls(2), salmon, teriyaki steak, salad, and a bowl of rice. It’s really filling and priced well. I also recommend their katsu donburi, and chicken katsu. I love their monkfish appetizer and the J-pop nachos. My favorite roll is the Marco Solo Roll. Their sushi is always so fresh and they have the perfect fish-rice ratio(I hate how some Japanese restaurants will have a large portion of rice in their rolls). I also like that they don’t drown their sushi rolls in sauces to the point that you can’t taste any of the fish or other fillings. Prices are comparable to other sushi restaurants. Japanese food is always pretty pricey, but I think the food here is worth it. The servers are also friendly and attentive. Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants and definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants in Petaluma!

Came back here last Friday night pretty late. Service was better this time around. Food was still absolutely delicious! I loved the seaweed salad, the Hula Girl roll is to die for! I also enjoyed their hot tea. They were sweet enough not to charge me and even gave me a free refill. This is definitely mine and my husbands new favorite sushi spot. We’ll be back again in the future.

Been here a few times and it’s very consistent quality and service. I like it here, it’s nice. I’ve never seen the fire on. Lol lunch is super good and speedy. I’m a vegetarian who eats a small amount of fish so my view is that. I am very picky about the bits of fish I’ll eat and it’s always very very fresh and good here. Good quiet service. Mm mm I’ll try to add to this after my next visit.

A Japanese restaurant in Petaluma? Let alone a good one? Yep. Whilst travelling back down to the Bay Area, we scrounged around Unilocal and found this lucky little establishment. We had a large party of 8 on a Wednesday and were seated within around 5 minutes. The ambiance of the place was stylishly modern, complete with a chrome fireplace, spherical lamps, art on the wall, and a sleek rock decorated sushi bar. It felt like a Zen garden with a modern twist. It was a refreshingly clean Japanese restaurant. I’m used to dilapidated old ones. Upon sitting down, I found our chopsticks were placed in a neatly folded piece of paper. It certainly excited me that the owners put a lot of thought into the presentation of their restaurant. But presentation aside, let’s jump to the food. Our large party ordered various items but the chief players were the following: NINJAROLL – Let’s start with my favorite. The Ninja Roll was a spicy tuna roll stuffed with fried asparagus, imitation crab salad, and topped with unagi. This was by far the most interesting roll that reflected upon the whole restaurant: a Japanese Restaurant with tacit American influence and taste. The asparagus was a bold choice – usually cucumber does the job to balance the heaviness of the meat. It didn’t work perfectly since asparagus is a little heavy in and of itself, but the tuna was fresh, the unagi didn’t have any pesky bones, and all the bells and whistles such as the spicy mayo, tobiko, and unagi sauce complemented the roll perfectly. ALASKAROLL – it was the standard salmon with avocado. Pretty fresh and nothing to complain about. RAINBOWROLL – a good choice if you want to sample four different fish: shrimp, salmon, tuna and yellowtail. Each topped with tobiko of various colors, definitely quite a nice touch. They were all fresh and standard. Needless to say when I wanted to grab another piece from the Rainbow Roll plate, a friend already snatched it up. DRAGONROLL – the Dragon Roll was by far my least favorite. The tempura shrimp, cucumber, unagi, tobiko, and sauces were each and in itself all right. However, by the time I got to the second piece, it was all together quite boring and overshadowed by the Ninja Roll. It certainly followed the Law of Diminishing Returns. Bento Box B: New York Steak Teriyaki – I’m used to super dry and too thoroughly cooked steak in the countless bento boxes that I’ve eaten in the past. But this one was quite a gem. The meat was still a little pink, just as I like it and ITWASN’T TOUGHANDSTRINGY. Service was friendly and extremely sufficient. Bottom Line: Quality Japanese food in a stunningly American setting for a slightly premium price – definitely well worth it though. Please come here if you’re looking for something to eat in Sonoma County. Their rolls and dishes were done with care.

Top-notch business lunch spot. Was packed on my 1st visit — a Tuesday — and not so busy on a recent Friday. The vegan spider roll was a terrific splurge, with tempura asparagus peeking out in place of the non-veg soft-shell crab. Finely diced pickled eggplant make a brilliant ruby splash on top rather than roe. Veggie bento box gave more variety on my 2nd visit. Make Gohan your special lunch place.

By far my favorite sushi restaurant in Sonoma county! Every one of their special rolls is unique and so full of flavor! Their appetizers include the usual suspects and others that are creative and unique to them! I have been coming here at least twice a month since they first opened. If you’re in the area and you’re looking for good sushi, this is THE place!

Rainbow roll was expensive and small. The miso soup was not home made. Old dehydrated tofu and not much of it or anything besides broth. Snooty and overpriced.

One of the best sushi places I have ever eaten at! I love ordering the unagi, salmon, and tuna! Delicious! Service though, can be a lot better. Often their waiters are a little cold and distant. Not good if you want a good environment. The food makes up for it though!

I would like to support local businesses, but not gonna support this one. First off, with less than ¼ of the restaurant being busy early in the day, I had to wait 15 minutes for service. Not okay Lipstick on my water glass? Not ok. Got specialty rolls and an appetizer — everything was super sugary-sweet(and this is the savory stuff), doused in sauce, and I seriously doubted the freshness of everything. Freshness? The lack thereof was further confirmed later by the food poisoning that I got 4 hour later. Won’t be back.

Haven’t eaten here in years and had forgotten how good third restaurant is. The food, the service. The ambiance, quite the gem of a restaurant. I had the Veggie 10 roll and The K-O Roll along with wakeme(seaweed salad) and sake. Delicious is all I can say! And I love that they serve water with a slice of cucumber on it… so refreshing! If you want to experience sushi whether it’s raw fish or vegetarian style, this restaurant had it all and more including chicken dishes, soups, bento boxes, etc. You can’t go wrong here, only right!

Was in the mood for some good sashimi while in Petaluma and my contractor recommended this spot. I was iffy about this spot because I really didn’t know what was actually good in the area. My last few Unilocal referrals have been steering me wrong, so you can see why I have some trust issue. This place look very upscale, nice sushi spot in the area. The entrees were well priced and the food sounded good. I ordered the Sashimi platter and was so glad that I did. I am very particular about my fish and this place was on point. The fish was fresh, flavorful and cut to the perfect thickness. I have been on a hunt to find my favorite sushi spot in various city and I think i found the spot in Petaluma. My co workers order the chicken entrée and enjoyed it too. Don’t pass on the fish at this place. Must try!

It’s kind of amazing… Gohan feels like an upscale sushi joint, even though it’s located in a shopping center. Once you step inside, it’s all sleek and subdued, classy and comfortable. You completely forget there’s a Kohl’s outside and a sports bar next door. The Japanese zen vibe is going strong here! My sister and I sat at the sushi bar, where we watched creative rolls being prepped, and ordered mostly by sight. They’ve got a large menu of traditional Japanese specialties, along with classic rolls($ 6-$ 15) and quirky sushi rolls($ 14 – 16). We had a spider roll, the gorgeous green Kryptonite roll, and the unique Rolling Stone roll with crunchy rice balls as a garnish. It’s a small place, so the servers are very attentive. There’s always a nice crowd of families, couples, even kids. If you’ve got a sushi craving, Gohan is legit fresh, friendly and fair-priced. Go-han for it!

I pretty much go here every time I’m in Petaluma. Some reviewers have commented the service is slow when they are busy. I’ve noticed that but figure sushi can only be made so fast. For the most part the service is fast and food is great. i went with a large-ish party last time and we kept asking for special items, etc and the waiter happily brought fresh wasabi, hot sauce, more this, more that, etc, etc. There are off-menu items so you might want to ask.
