I read the reviews, and the receptionist has changed. There is someone else now, and she is as sweet as can be. However, the maintenance guy still is in lala land. It’s week 4 now, and I have no doorbell, I’m still waiting for a few tiles to be put in and I’m waiting for a shelf for the fridge. I don’t know if it’s one guy for the whole company, but he is a ghost. The apartment itself is gorgeous. High ceilings, and original moldings, fireplace etc at a good price. But this maintenance guy is ridiculous. Brb, going to buy my own doorbell.

I’ve lived and rented with the Kean Family since 2008 so I’m going to toss it out there… I’m pretty knowledgeable and my review should definitely hold value.
The properties are some of the best values you’ll find in Philadelphia. Period. I love my place and I’ve been very happy with the Kean’s as my landlord. This isn’t a huge corporation that doesn’t care about you. This is a family run business and that is exactly what you’ll get to understand and love.
The few times I’ve had maintenance concerns I’ve called or emailed and always stated the rental unit, the problem and what a realistic problem/​concern it was. They’ve always appreciated that and and come to resolve any issues within an appropriate/​agreed upon time frame.
I’ve read the other reviews and hey look, I know mine stands out but I’ve been with the Kean’s since 2008 and I can’t imagine dealing with another rental company. I’ve had most of my interactions with Kirby and he’s completely understanding to any questions concerns or requests I’ve had. And yes one has been how to change the light bulb! To my defense it’s a tricky fixture way way up on the ceiling!!!
Regardless I know you probably don’t see someone write a review for their landlord often but I just found that the Kean’s have been great to me and I’ve been nothing but happy. Send me a private message on Unilocal if you have any questions. I’ve been nothing but pleased

**UPDATE**
After providing our CORRECT forwarding address, they sent our security deposit to THE WRONG ADDRESS. Going back through all correspondence, we definitely gave them the correct address. These people are the worst. Can’t wait to get my deposit back and never deal with them again. What a nightmare.

Holy **** the receptionist Shirley is satanic! I have no idea what her problem is, but I have never seen anyone so pissed to receive good news, examples of good news being but not limited to: signing my lease, wanting to extend my lease, dropping off a rent check… you know all of the things that someone working in a rental office should be excited to see? Nope, apparently getting a check for 3 grand and a 12 month lease is reason enough to go ape. She is the grumpy cat, the mad Italian jersey housewife grumpy cat. You know the kind that responds to criticism with a hollow «Excuse Me!?»
With that being said Ill give some tips
1. The apartments will be what you make them, a few have a lot of potential. Sometimes old and dilapidated has its perks.
2. So long as you never need the front office you will be fine.
3. So long as nothing breaks you will be fine.
4. So long as you avoid Shirley, you will be happy and puppies will remain cute.
5. Get renters insurance. Security is laughable. Our place was broken into — not a word from the front office. Same locks, same keys… smh
6. Don’t even try to rationalize this as a place of business, you are paying a dude for a roof over your head. They are delusional, you need not be. Smile and nod and drop a check off on the 1^st if you want to live here.
Also, Ron Ott, the Realtor is a 100% waste of sperm.

I can’t get passed the receptionist… Leroy, if you are reading this, i’ve been trying to get a hold of you for over a week. I’m hoping to speak to you about a location in University Cities Powelton Village.

i am so stinking mad right now. after making an appointment to see a property, and re-​arranging my entire schedule, asking people to cover for me, one of the realtors, KIRBY, f (*&^%%%^g stands me up. doesn’t even bother to call. it’s not until i call the receptionist, and she calls him, that she calls me back to say, oh he’s at another property and there’s no way he can show you that property today.
i mean, the guy couldn’t even be bothered to call me himself and apologize.
obviously they suck. avoid any ads by kean on craigslist, especially any properties in south philly. or else you might find yourself standing in the rain waiting for some a-​hole realtor who thinks his life is more important than yours.

Their receptionist will not only ruin your day but also your life. Try to avoid speaking with her at all costs.
