Food is good but nothing special. Just standard halal food in a food truck. Portions are huge. I usually get the combo over rice(great deal for the price). Plus you get a free drink. Gyros are decent too but again nothing special. The white sauce makes the food look so fatty(reminds me of mayo), so I wouldn’t order from there much.

Since this truck started about two years ago, it became one of my favorite Gyro places in the area. I almost always have the combo platter either with rice or without with white sauce and chickpeas which is a fantastic meal. I

Super fast service and friendly guys! I come every once in a while to get my fix – portions are huge and it even comes with a soda or water! I usually get chicken and falafel; their sauces are a must too.

This is a review for the food cart on Spruce near 38th, just across from Wawa. One of the best(if not the best) lunch in the area. Very cheap, very delicious, flavorful, and filling. Everything comes with a free drink. Service is fast, so don’t get discouraged by the long line. I usually get the chicken over rice. So yummy! :)

$ 5 for a huge rice platter that includes chickpeas, iceberg, and a generous portion of chicken/lamb/whatever meat option you select, and a can of soda. The food itself is pretty standard and your typical greasy fare, but it is isn’t bad, by a long shot, and the chicken and lamb combo has pretty much turned into my meal of choice whenever I get a craving for my lamb platter that I used to get from the yellow bag Halal guys at 53rd and 6th in NY.

I really love this place, and i can’t really explain why. I went to school at Drexel and the availability and low cost of this place made it a no brainer in between classes. I really only get one thing there, which is the combo rice(gyro meat and chicken over rice with hotsauce & white sauce). It only costs $ 5 and you get a soda with it. Now i understand that a lot of people are skeptical about how that can be such a low price and I find i don’t even care, it fills me up, its easy and i’m always satisfied. The gentlemen who run the cart are super friendly and always have a smile on their face. If you’re in a hurry you really can’t go wrong here. Just be warned your breath will take a beating after eating this, but really what did you expect?

3.5 stars! This is right by Penn campus, so it’s a convenient place for me to grab food on the go if I’m heading to campus. I like to get the mixed chicken and lamb over rice, but I’ve also tried their falafel. Tasty and filling meal at a great price($ 5)! Each order also comes with a soda/water. There are so many halal food trucks around Penn and the surroudning UC area, and personally, I think they are all pretty similar in terms of pricing and quality. I’ve had better halal food esp in NY and at home, but this place definitely satisfies my cravings and fills me up. Solid food truck with great prices and fast service!

I normally get the lamb and chicken over rice in NY. Wanted to surprise the husband for dinner during our stay-cation. I don’t live in this area so I don’t have the luxury of being able to compare carts so I Unilocaled this one and wasn’t disappointed. Food was super tasty and hit the spot. I came late in the day(4:30 p). so he ran out of lamb for the 2 out of the 4 combo platters I ordered. The salad was sans tomato too but I’m ok with that– shows he was busy all day which is a good sign. I’ll definitely be back.

Good for the price. I am probably bias because I am a die hard Halal Guys cart fan, which is in NY. I guess I expected juicier meet with more spices.

Although everyone at Penn has his or her own opinion on which chicken and rice truck is the best, my favorite has always been this one, the New York Gyro food truck located near the Lower Quad Gate. I feel the need to clarify which one I’m talking about because there are technically two chicken and rice places near the 38th and Spruce area. $ 5 here gets you a tasty and filling plate of chicken and rice and a soda. While this deal is pretty standard for all of the chicken and rice places on campus, I have always preferred this cart’s chicken and rice because I find it lighter and milder than that of its competitors. Juicy chicken, crunchy lettuce, fresh tomato, aromatic rice, savory white sauce, and a little bit of hot sauce to give everything a slight kick. It really doesn’t get much better than that. The falafel and lamb options are also quite tasty, and if you’re looking for some variety, the combo platter lets you try multiple meats and/or falafel at the same time. The service here is quick and efficient. The man and woman who work this truck have been doing this for a long time, and they’ve developed a pretty good system for getting food out expediently. They’re both very friendly people, and they almost always greet you with a smile, which is more than I can say for a lot of the other food trucks around here. The two of them also have a pretty good memory for faces, and they’ll recognize and greet you more actively if you’re a regular. The one issue I have with this place is that they used to run out of rice past a certain hour. I don’t know if this is still a recurring problem, but it just means that you should go during normal hours if you want to guarantee that you’ll be having chicken and rice for lunch. Convenient and tasty food at a great price. As far as chicken and rice food trucks go, this one is my favorite at Penn. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

It’s like a lot of the other Gyro carts out there. Great prices and tasty food. I almost always go for the chicken and rice. It comes with salad, which is mostly lettuce and a couple of slivers of tomato. I douse it with white sauce and hot sauce, both of which I really like. The chicken and rice both taste good, but it’s the sauce that really makes the difference. Even when the line is long, and at times it is, it seems to move pretty quick. The reason you go hear is because for $ 5 you get a meal and a can of soda, or bottle of water. This is a tasty meal for a good price.

Good quality food, cheap and fast. $ 5 for choice protein including lamb, chicken and falafel over rice with lettuce and tomato. The combo of the cooling white sauce and the hot sauce provides additional layers of flavor. The chicken was seasoned nicely with a curry mixture and the lamb was tender but spicy. No complaints here. Enough food to satisfy a big appetite. Free soda with any meal.

The NY Gyro Halal cart seems to be one in a series of other similar halal food carts around the city. It’s located on the sidewalk on the corner of 38th& Spruce, right next to a similar cart, the Troy food cart. The food is pretty standard issue for these carts, but tasty nonetheless. For $ 5, you can get chicken(or lamb or falafel or a combo) over rice with a little side salad and a drink. It’s quite a hearty meal for the money. I recommend getting it with the chickpeas(included) and the white(yogurt) and red(spicy) sauce. If you like your food spicy, I would definitely ask for extra of the red sauce. They also have pita sandwiches, which run around $ 3 or $ 4. The fellow who operates the cart is a nice guy and often gives you extra chicken once he gets to know you. He does a decent job keeping up with the line that can form, but there can still be a little bit of a wait sometimes. That said, the line moves way faster than the Troy cart next to it. As I noted in my review of Troy, come here if you are in more of a rush; go to Troy if there is no line. Recommend checking it out.
