Oh no! I loved Pink Rose! I like anything with Pink in it! We hit it up on almost every trip to Philly and it was always crowded so why did it close? Please reopen! It was charming and sweet!

OMG… I didn’t know this place closed!!! Wow, we were gonna eat here last weekend!!! Well, I used to like this place for a quick cheap breakfast. They didn’t do anything phenomenal or different here…(typical eggs, sausage, potatos and toast), but what I liked was the variety of teas they offered. Worst thing? The cold draft of wind you caught every time the door opened on a cold day. Brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!(LOL) Rest in peace, Pink Rose. I will miss this quaint little place.

Sadly, The Pink Rose’s final day was yesterday. Hopefully it will be sold and re-opened.

Ended up coming here for brunch after trying Fitzwater Café, and getting deterred by the 30 minute wait and the slightly high prices. Figuring there’d be a wait anywhere, but why not see what else around, we sat down right away at Pink Rose, and prices were a little more suited to what we were looking for that day. The menu’s a good size; the wait staff seemed a little overwhelmed with the brunch rush, but the space is small and open to the kitchen, so it’s not hard to get someone’s attention if need be. Our food was good, standard brunch fare. My french toast actually came out cold, and when I complained they made me a new portion, apologized and didn’t charge us for it without me asking, which always wins points in my book; it’s the little things, ya know?

I pine for Pink Rose’s former days, when I would rave to anyone who would listen about the dense deliciousness of their flourless chocolate torte. They had a nice selection of teas, young hipster waitstaff, and a English tea house ambiance. The last two times I’ve visited, it’s felt like a semblence of it’s former self. Service is terrible, and there are homeless people/druggies walking in and out and conversing with the waitstaff as though they are doing deals? Maybe it’s under new management.

I will say something nice before i go into not being nice… their breakfast special of two eggs, home fries and a fresh baked biscuit with berry jam is out of control good. It is only $ 1.95 if you eat there and $ 4.00 if you take out. either way well worth it since other breakfast spots will charge you around $ 6.00. The home fries are amazing. now everything else is horrible. They are sooo over priced! I bought a cupcake for my boyfriend for $ 4 and he threw it out cause it was bad. Today I bought 4 cream puffs(where i live back home are only 75 cents) for 2 dollars each and they were soooo stale. YUCK! I am really sad about it. You would think they could do better. Every time i go in and try to get something besides breakfast i am left unsatisfied. I keep going back cause i am hoping it will get better because i would love to have a pastry shop so close to my house. but i fear it will never be so.

I’ve walked past this place many times on my way to Fabric Row, and judging by the face it seemed right up my alley. My experience here was very underwhelming. First of all, the service that we received was just appealing. Our waitress seemed just plain out of it half the time. Not only did it take her forever to do pretty much everything, she had the worst ‘tude which really clashed with the«cutesy pastry shop» vibe they’re trying to sell you. She never greeted us when we entered, glared at us when we were taking a while to make our decisions, and acted as if our questions about the menu were such a huge inconvenience to her. Service aside, the pastries were pretty average, just a lot of sugar, nothing special. Everyone in my party got ginormous portions, which I guess is okay if you’re just really hungry and don’t care too much about the food tasting great. Lastly, does anyone ever clean in this place?!

I had a really good, A-OK, even, breakfast experience at the Pink Rose. My friends and I stopped here for breakfast after our Saturday morning bike ride to Valley Forge. I ordered an omelet with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and swiss which was accompanied by breakfast potatoes, and a freshly made butter soaked biscuit with a side of raspberry jam. The omelet ingredients were fresh and the biscuit defies description. I’m shaving a star because even if I know the orange juice isn’t fresh squeezed I’d still rather not see the jug of Tropicana Pure Premium on the counter. Oh and did I mention that breakfast for 3 was less that $ 30…Sold!

I am a big fan of the Pink Rose. I think their Sunday Brunch is great. However, if you are expecting french toast stuffed with peanut butter cups, cream cheese, and pixie dust go to Sabrina’s. This is a basic, no-frills breakfast place. That being said, the food is consistently good. The biscuits and raspberry compote they give you is AMAZING. You can also get eggs, potatoes, and a biscuit for like $ 4. I’ve had the pastry and deserts there a few times. They are hit or miss. I’ve stopped buying them because the last two times the cake slices were stale.

Came here for a Sunday brunch with one of my girlfriends. We wanted a pleasant experience with some coffee and a pastry. We got average food, horrible service, and undrinkable coffee. I ordered an iced coffee and blueberry muffin. When the waitress brought out half and half with my coffee, I asked for milk. She brought out milk fairly quickly, and I poured it in and hoped to enjoy my coffee. As I took my first sip, I found it a little baffling that the coffee was actually a bit muddy with grounds. I don’t like my coffee crunchy. So, I asked for another one. She brought it out — along with my muffin — and the half and half again. I asked for milk again. I ate my muffin and asked for one more coffee(the menu says that refills are free.) When we received our bill, I was charged for two coffees. I corrected her — and she recounted. This time, her addition was off and she charged us an extra $ 7 on the bill. At that point, I just gave up, did my own addition, and left. I would have given two stars just for the muffin — which wasn’t bad. However, the waitress didn’t apologize for overcharging us or for the terrible coffee. My advice, don’t eat in or just find another bakery. My grocery store’s bakery has muffins on the same level.(I really enjoy those muffins, this is just a comparison!)

The food here is AMAZING, so fresh, so buttery, so nice. Get everything to GO however because their wait staff takes 15 minutes just to get a menu to you. I’ve eaten here three mornings, all on Saturdays, over the past two years and each and everytime been left sitting forever waiting for: a menu, then for food, then for the check(literaly 25 minutes wait for check). Get the blue berry pancakes, the carrot cake cupcakes… get everything it’s delicious.

Eh, I had really high hopes for this place. It is difficult to disappoint me, but this place has. Every day I walk by this place and it smells amazing. Recently, I decided to stop by on my lunch break and order my favorite baked good, the cupcake. The cake was heavy and dry, reminded me of a really bad pound cake. The icing was okay but there wasn’t enough to accompany the giant, heavy cake. If this wasn’t disappointing enough, the woman who waited on me was so rude and unpleasant. Some people aren’t cut out for the service industry, clearly she is one of them. With such a close proximity to me I wanted so bad to love this place…

I always thought this place looked a little too bizarre to try, but I recently found myself at that level of hunger where the only option is to run inside the next available spot and order everything on the menu. Half a slice of pie later, I awoke from my stupor and realized the lemon meringue was tasty, if a little sweeter and heavier than I’d like. The black iced coffee balanced it out pretty well. Service was goofy, endearing, and certainly welcoming, and the staff was happy to box up my leftovers. The prices– a tad on the high side, but how often do you eat pie for dinner?

I’ve only been here once, but I’ll be damned if the wonderful sugary smell emanating from it every time i walk by doesn’t make me want to stop in more often. At any rate, I noticed that most of these reviews revolve around the help not being very friendly. Well, i didn’t have a bad experience with any of that when I visited, but I guess you could say my trip was a little more bizarre in that regard. Me and sweetie-pie went in one night. I immediately ordered the Napoleon which turned out to be as delicious as it looked in the case, and she had some sort of slab of chocolate cake that she found to be just average(I thought it was pretty damn tasty). While we’re sitting there eating our pastries, the manager lady was talking to one of the bakers quite loudly, telling him over and over to believe in himself more and that he’d go a long way It was kind of strange as the conversation often seemed like it was turning into more of an argument than a pep talk, and we felt like we were watching some hilarious TV drama unfold, so it was at least entertaining. Obviously, people like this joint enough as I never see it completely empty and it looks like they have very affordable breakfast specials according to the sign stating so in the window. For me, though, this is a place where I’d mainly go for the pastries. I would like to go back sometime. It’s nothing special, but it’s funky enough for a different sort of experience.

Rude service… I went with a few people after an event at TLA and they just barely acknowledged any of us. When they did it was with glares. I’ve worked double shifts at restaurant/cafes late into the night and I understand waiting on people can be tiring and aggravating, but no need to take it out on the polite ones. I empathize, but come on. And there’s no need for a maccaroon to be the size of infant. That shit lasted me an entire week, although in retrospect that probably was a good thing. Anyway, I almost got hit by a car right outside of here so that makes it suck even further. My friend got a cupcake that she said tasted like diabetes. Spend your money at AIDS Thrift or CUE Records nearby. I know South Street is non innundated with bakeries but you could do better.

This place has such potential it makes me itch. My sister and I had a dream when we were little to own a patisserie shop. A shop that made you feel like tea time, petit fours and old breakfast recipes. So maybe my hopes were set high for Pink Rose already. But it’s just not as special as the name and first walk in make you feel it should be. The food was standard, desserts looked good, but overall it didn’t have an individual feel to it. And it’s never fun when the staff doesn’t want to be there. The décor is cute but if you don’t finish it off with your own flare and small details then it just leaves me thinking it’s kitschy . And I really did want you to be special Pink Rose.

I have yet to do the $ 2.50 advertised weekday breakfast, but damn did those pastries look good! Too bad I didn’t have any… maybe next time. The place was hot but made me feel like I was at the shore at some nice little hole in the wall where I knew I was going to get something good. Two poached eggs and a biscuit. I never had poached eggs before but wanted to give them a whirl. Glad I did it here because mmmmmm did that biscuit dip into those eggs just right. The OJ was carton brand I could only assume but no one is perfect. The day was going to be a long one filled with lots of riding so I needed a little early morning protein boost. That little bit did the job and I needed to get out of there because some of the patrons were just plain getting on my nerves… I can’t stand the overly picky yuppie types with too much perfume and romance novels. Ugh. I sooo need to get myself some pastries, though, because they were just incredible looking. Boy do I love artery clogging goodness but the French do just fine!

When looking for a good Philadelphian breakfast or pastry shop, your bound to come across some«Best Of» list with the Pink Rose Pastry SHop creeping somewhere near the top 5. I happen to think that the hype is uncalled for and that this little shop near South Street is overrated. Want proof? Next time you’re in the mood for Pink Rose, try Sabrina’s, Sam’s Morning Glory or even the South Street diner. There I said it. The one reason to go for breakfast: biscuits. Besides that, this place is small, old-fashioned and run by young kids. Breakfast is decent — nothing to write home about. Okay, I do have to admit, though — the cakes are pretty good(get one with chocolate ganache). So bottom line: if you are in the mood for breakfast, try someplace else. If you need a birthday cake to impress, then you’re good to go.
