Gorgeous curated artisanal gifts from Japanese with a focus on kitchen/home goods with a tea bar. Only downside was a lot of items didn’t have prices marked and i didn’t want to have to ask about a handful of different items. They do have a wide selection of price points from what was marked, some very reasonable

I’ve been eyeing up this store for months, and they finally opened on 1÷8÷2016! I stepped into a space with gorgeous zen décor — and fell in love with the stone, water, wood, and metal elements(I totally took notes for decorating ideas)! They currently offer: * Housewares: soup pots, bowls, plates, teapots, utensils, towels, charcoal water filters * Personal: oils, soaps, jewelry, slippers, tabi socks, fragrance sachets * Office: cute stationery, high end paper, mechanical pencils and refills(nostalgia!) * Yummies: cookies, tea Speaking of tea, the friendly staff offered a sample of matcha tea. I was expecting a(slight) bitter, gritty oomph — but this was light, aromatic, and smooth. They’ll be acquiring more items in the near future — including this tea! Summary: Minimalistic feel, refined and unique items, relaxing atmosphere(love the hinoki fragrance wafting from the diffuser). Pricing is very steep for some items(artisan hand-made), but somewhat reasonable for others(commercial niche items). Final pet policy is currently under discussion with management — they’re pet friendly … for now. I’ll definitely be back to browse for more unique ideas, décor, and gifts!

Positives: the store is beautiful, filled with Japanese goods that are hard to get in many other stores. The staff is very friendly. Negatives: location is very out of the way. there are no other stores in the area, so if you go out there, you make the trek in order to see this store. Prices are very high, which makes sense for the quality of goods imported from japan, but not the type of place for buying casual house warming gifts. Another negative is that there is some product overlap with the omoi zakka shop on 16th and pine which also carries Japanese knickknacks but is more conveniently located in center city philadelphia.

Just discovered this hidden gem of a shop. I was absolutely thrilled that I now have a spot in the city to re-stock on some Ippodo hoji-cha and gyokuro-cha. The store is carefully curated with high quality/simplicity of design and functionally oriented goods from Japan. There was a selection of high end, super soft towels, a lot of binchotan charcoal related personal hygiene products and carefully handcrafted wooden containers for storing tea leaves. These were just a few things that caught my eye. They also carry old school Japanese pencils and Mono erasers that brought back memories of doing Kumon after school back in the day. I will definitely be coming back!

I love this store simply because they carry my favourite Japanese brand of cookies, Yoku Moku! My dad’s friend used to go to Japan a lot for business trip. When he comes back, he would me bring me back a box of Yoku Moku cookies. It’s the best cookies I have had. The only place that I know carries these cookies in the United States is neimann Marcus, so I was very surprise to see it at this store. The only downsize is, this store only carries the cigar cookies. Wish they would carry other cookies selection. Beside the cookies, this store is a great spot to get cool Japanese gifts. If I have the money, I’ll definitely get some of the jewelry there.

If you are looking for cool things, really cool things — check out Morihata. It has some phenomenally clever products. From calligraphy pens that have a re-fillable cartridge to kitchen and bath towels that are unlike any I have every seen.(and I am getting old and have seen a lot) They even have a note pad that is made out of thin strips of wood. Imagine giving that to someone! When did you give or use a notepad worth noting? And you won’t want to put your grocery list on this puppy, it will be your special, favorite notepad. Saved for special notes;-) I got these outrageously amazing reading glasses that fold up in my shirt pocket. EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE thinks they are awesome! So if you want to stand out from the crowd in an un-embarrassing way, perhaps you can find some booty at Morihata to help you out. It is such a change from a typcial store. Enjoy your shopping experience and stand out with a purchase from Morihata.

Awesome place if you’re thinking of a unique gift for someone you care about. I stumbled into this place walking to café lift. Jackpot! The place is filled with Japanese imports — from little stationary items to home goods and jewelery. The whole store reminded me of a little section from the MoMA shop. Very artsy and unique! I bought water purifier for my parents. I was tempted to get the pyrex-glass made jewelery… but didn’t. If you love me but haven’t confessed your love to me yet, the right way to do it is to bring me a piece of this glass jewelery from Morihata.

You’d want everything they have! I got a clear glass tea pot for my mother in law who has everything. It has always been hard to think what to get for her but at Morihata I could find at least a half a dozen things I can get for her. I was surprised how reasonable some very stylish items were and you just don’t find anywhere else in Philly. It may be a bit out of the way for many but it is worth a visit.
