The University Club at Penn offers breakfast in the Inn at Penn(Walnut St side). You can order items a la carte or there are two buffet selections. You can have the continental breakfast with pastries, toast, bagels, and fruit… or the hot buffet breakfast with ready to order eggs as well as pre-made french toast, sausages, etc. The food was good but as expected overpriced. What really killed the experience here was the gentleman working the omelet station who made it VERY clear that asking for eggs to be made was a huge disturbance to his planned day of sitting doing nothing. Extremely disappointing as the service at the tables was fine.

From some of the reviews I read I though I could order a breakfast sandwich. The only choice was the buffet. It was a little pricey. There is an omelet bar, and there bacon was great. I really enjoyed the baked goods such as home made muffins and crumb cake. They also have home made granola. Lots of breakfast choices. Coffee was decent. My husband who is a huge coffee snob said there coffee was ok.

My host called it «Hill House dining for old people.» Great line! And true. We went for lunch which was a buffet with salad bar and to order sandwiches. The atmoshphere is very bland(they don’t play up on the Penn theme and the chairs remind me of my grandparents’ kitchen). I did really like the flat bread with carmelized onions. But, if you are there with a former classmate and you can relive old times and renew friendships … it’s worth it!

Lots of choice in the breakfast buffet. I had a special order breakfast as well as the buffet on different mornings. Service is excellent and the food is ALWAYS hot.

I’ve come here a few times for lunch, and I’m a little embarrassed to be honest. A little background — I’m comparing this club to the Rutgers club up in New Brunswick. The Rutgers Club(and their Chef) has consistently won awards for culinary excellence. I’ve gone there both as a student as a staff member, and I was consistently blown away by the quality of the food that they serve. When I was invited to go to Penn’s University Club, I had similar expectations. Boy, was I disappointed. First, the whole dining room smells of tuna fish. Not really sure why. But that’s a turnoff for me. Next, I didn’t really see any fresh entrees. I guess their thing here is a hot/cold buffet, and it was just meh. I guess all the food is cooked by the Inn at Penn kitchen, and I’ve had much better food at meetings that were held in that same hotel. Really disappointing. Chicken was kind of lukewarm and devoid of flavor. I got a roast beef sandwich that was dry and frankly almost stale. This is a far cry from the hot, sit down meals that were served at the Rutgers club. I guess if you want to show off your ‘membership’, it’s worth hitting up the buffet lunch here. Otherwise, you can get much more mileage for your $ 10 and change, and go someplace that will serve food that might actually have some character.

Had my morning breakfast here — a very nice and yummy buffet is available, or you can order custom omelets and the like. I had scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, breakfast potatoes, one egg benedict, a slice of smoked Salmon(gotta get in those Omega 3 fatty acids) and some fresh strawberries, plus a large cup of coffee. Excellent breakfast!
