Nice place to get a drink with very cool shot/beer specials. Came in to town on business and visited twice, friendly atmosphere.

Meh, just another mediocre bar on South Street. They have a TON of specials from $ 6-$ 12. Basically, a beer/drink with a shot. I definitely love that. They have the music jukebox so if no one puts money in it, it’s awkwardly quiet in the bar. If you do go here, it’s best with a big crowd so that you can start your own party.

A great bar with a friendly staff! A great place to hang out, eat and drink, and watch sporting events. However, my favorite thing about this place is that it’s a Washington Redskins bar! Or, at least it’s listed as one. I felt so at home during my time at this bar. The buffalo wings were saucy, delicious, and filling. The Old Bay fries were drenched in Old Bay seasoning, which was great and added amazing flavor. The nachos, however, were just«alright.» I’ve had better elsewhere. I prefer beef nachos, however, I will say that for pork nachos, they were good. The drink specials weren’t too bad either. Overall, this is a great place to go. Great food and great people ensure for a great time! I definitely will be back whenever I make my way to Philadelphia!

Good vibes, better company, quality brews! Great environment to grab a cold beer and hangout with friends and if you run out of conversation, there’s an assortment of cool pictures and drawings to look at while gaining your liquid courage. Enjoy!

Nice comfortable place, burgers made just the way you want with all the ingredients you want(no extra cost) with fries for about 10 dollars. But there wasn’t anything special about this place. It’s really good here, definitely worth a try. Lots of good beers on tap! I would give 3.5 if I could, just lacks something different that stands out from other bars.

Was looking a place to get some good cheap drinks. The bartender was awesome. And the music pretty good.

This place has cold beer, huge tvs everywhere, and a menu that is easily forgettable. While it definitely feels out of place for the south st scene, it’s a decent spot to grab a couple with a buddy and watch the phils. This place stays pretty dark(which I don’t hate), but it’s basically just a watering hole. Main complaint is that the booze is just way too pricey for a place like that.

It was like stepping into Minnesota hunting lodge that someone teleported onto south street. Except no cool taxidermy animals or rifles on the wall. And«part time contractor» drunks instead of hunters. Only other patron was a man-child talking about who would beat up shoot or stab who if they met each other in a dark alley. The bartender seems to card everyone over 45, which I believe may have been part of the reason the couple who came in left without ordering a drink. It’s not that it was that bad of a bad bar. But it takes a significant amount of arrogance and contempt for your customers to put so little effort into your bar while surrounded with bars that try hard, albeit annoyingly. Businesses are supposed to cater to their environment, not the other way around.

Probably the only bar on south street where you can go on a weekend and be left the fuck alone. A great old man bar with a good beer list, nice specials and a very decent alcohol selection. They have attentive, friendly staff that are helpful and give you samples. The bathrooms are also very nice for the area.

I decided to go to Woolly last night and it was a cool bar. They have a decent draft and bottle list to choose from, bartender was attentive, and the chicken cheesesteak was decent bar food. I definitely would like to return here if around South Street.

Personally, I’ve never had a bad time here, but I’m reluctant to give Woolly Mammoth a higher rating due to its lack of identity. I’ve been here plenty of times, during all seasons, all days of the week, and all times of the day, but I still have no idea what to expect each time I go. It ranges from local dive bar to lively night spot in a matter of minutes. The bartenders are very friendly during slower periods, but tend to become distracted once it gets a bit more crowded They do have a pretty decent beer selection for a moderate price, as well as some beer/shot specials on their chalkboard. The taps all along the ceiling’s perimeter give it a pretty cool atmosphere; maybe they could exploit that to make it a more craft beer oriented bar. They do have an upstairs, but it is always closed whenever I go. My advice: going to South St for the day? Stop in and grab a beer. There’s always something good on tap.

Yes, please! Loved the draft and bottle beer selection! Loved the bartenders-friendly, attentive, fabulous! Good food, too! Several televisions to watch college football, too. I wanted to call this place a dive bar, but it really is so much more. Impressive place, really and truly! I will be back!

My wife and I came here for some Sunday afternoon football. Nothing but loud, obnoxious Eagles fans yelling and swearing at the tv; what else would you expect in a south Philly bar? The service was good and the food was ok. If you’re a football fan from out if town this is the place to be. They had every game on and it was a good sports atmosphere. Overall a good time and worth my Sunday afternoon.

What a great option vs the cheesesteak place down the street! We stopped here during a Philly tour and we were not disappointed. Healthy portions for lunch. Can’t speak for the night life. Enjoy

Arlene and I visited the Woolly Mammoth today just for a few beers during our visit to South Street. Many bars on South Street we in the throws of the FIFA world cup, so bars were packed with cheering fans. As we walked through the doors, there was a long bar to the left, and some tables to the right of the bar. With plenty of flat screens behind the bar, the eye catcher was their collection of beer tap handles hanging high above the bar area. We were able to find a spot to sit at the very end of the bar. Our bartender was quick to approach and take our drink orders. As we generally do when we’re in Philadelphia, we enjoyed a few ales from local micro-breweries. While they did have a limited food menu, we opted not to eat this time around. I would likely return to the Woolly Mannoth. With the sheer number of bars along the strip, there was nothing that made this bar stand out.

I can’t count the number of times I have walked by the Woolly Mammoth and thought to myself… ‘what a dive, that place looks like it smells like stale beer!, no thanks!’ Well, a $ 35 gift certificate that a friend of mine had, and a snowy night made me a hypocrite. We met at the Woolly Mammoth for dinner and drinks. They have a great selection of draft beers, 15 or 16 on tap. Mostly micro brews and seasonal beers which were perfect for the snowy winter night. They also have a decent selection of bottled brews as well. We each got soup, I had the chili and she had the french onion. My chili was too meaty and was covered in shredded cheese. ‘Bar food’ is not really my thing, so I am trying not to be too critical, but the meat seemed cheap and grainy… like cafeteria beef. On a bright note, the soups came with a few pieces of toast that were nice. I ordered the chicken quesadillas and my friend had the chicken cheese steak. The quesadillas were huge and STUFFED with huge pieces of chicken. I was so full from the chili that I could only eat 1⁄3 of my quesadilla. I guess I should have just ordered that. My friend agreed that the soups were pretty large and we could have just had soup or sandwich, not both! The bartender and server were extremely friendly, welcoming and relatively attentive! The bathrooms were another story, when I closed the stall door, my knees were practically touching the stall door, and it was not clean… typical dive bar scene. We probably would have stayed there longer, but every time someone walked in or out of the bar, it made the bar extremely cold and the heating system was not recovering quick enough. I imagine it was probably 60-ish degrees in there, and even my Mad Elf couldn’t keep me warm! The Woolly Mammoth was not a bad experience, but I doubt I will return. My original thought of dive bar was on par, though the only part that smelled was the bathrooms!

I was looking for a place to take my friends on Saturday night. We were visiting from out of town and my friend who we were visiting really wasn’t familiar with good places to go to. It was pouring freezing cold rain outside and I knew that I wanted to make it somewhere that had some music and drinks — I was really okay with anything in between. The Wooly Mammoth met these requirements and we had a pretty good time there. They have a lot of high tables so we were able to sit down and order drinks. In addition, they had a juke box and the bar was blasting good hits that we all enjoyed. The drinks weren’t terribly expensive and it seemed like if it wasn’t pouring outside, this place would probably have a better crowd than that night. Don’t have extremely high expectations for this place, its nothing fancy. Just your regular old standard bar serving drinks and juke box music. If you are looking for a good late night bite afterward — go across the street to Takka Grille, amazing cheese steaks!

I’m a student so I love dive bars, I love drinking specials, and I love lamp. But I do not love caves that are not fun. This place needs to learn to own their dive-bar status a little more. It’s not like Tattoo Mom’s where they really play into it and do a better job. Things are bare here in a sort of depressing way. This place has such a fun name, it’s sort of a shame it’s not more cool itself.
