I bought a groupon for this place and went in and ordered enough stuff to be pretty even on what i bought the groupon for. I was just on my own so three rolls was more than i needed. The sushi was quite good but the service was HORRIBLE. When I was checking out, which took like half an hour to get my check, the young waiter informed me i spent the same amount of my groupon and that I should order something else. Well after arguing with him he comes back and says that its fine I can just get the meal free and that its pretty horrible for them. Free? I paid for the groupon! I would’ve come back, which is kind of the point of the groupon, except for the harassment I received. I left extremely upset.

So my wife and I ended up at sushi lover, with a certificate in hand. This place is located in the back of a strip center. The signage and window treatments leave little to be desired. Entering the establishment, directly ahead of you is a stage that is obviously set up for karaōke with two extremely large speakers on either side of the stage. There are about 10 tables in the entire restaurant. There was an individual making sushi behind a bar, but the bar itself did not lend it for seating. There is a very large mirror on the right-hand side, which of course is there to give you the optical illusion that the place is larger than it is. We were told to sit anywhere we would like. At the time of arrival there was only one other couple with their small baby in the entire restaurant. It was a Friday night at 7:30PM. The servers seem to have a difficult time understanding English. There are three menus! We were told that we could use the coupon that we had on anything except the combinations. The menus were laminated and on the lamination were several black marks indicating they were out of certain items. One of the menus contained pictures. The pictures were presented rather well. Because we couldn’t decide we settled on getting a couple of salads and a couple of miso soups. While we were perusing the menu. The soups arrived first and were extremely cold. The soups seem to contain some blanched chicken, possibly spinach and may be a couple of carrots, some onion, and of course the broth. For whatever reason mine tasted odd, so I decided I wasn’t going to have it warmed up. We had to get the server’s attention in order to tell her about the soups. After a few minutes, the salads arrived. A small bowl, filled with good-looking greens, slivers of carrots and a few very small, cherry tomatoes. The dressing tasted a lot like what you could buy in a grocery store, nothing special. When my wife’s soups arrived, it was just two shades warmer than it was before. She did eat most of it though, claiming it was fairly decent. I think she was just starving. We finally settled on ordering a sunny roll and a volcano roll. Because we love eel so much, both rules contained unagi. Although the presentations of both looked very nice, there were very little eel pieces on any of the rolls. The other ingredients within the roles such as cucumber and cream cheese seemed to be fresh and fine. The rice rolls almost seemed to be prefab. On one of the rolls, it was supposed to be topped with crab and scallops and the crab was definitely fake, although it is not listed as such, and the scallops were so fishy. I opted out. Since we were there for the sushi and not the salad, I would have to say that this place was a huge disappointment. The only other shining good moment was the fact that the beers were cold, and both were served in a bottle. Unfortunately, this place charges, a normal rate for what would be high quality sushi and does not deliver. In the end I felt like getting our server to do anything for us was like pulling teeth. The atmosphere was horrible, and the food well I guess it was food… So to summarize, I probably won’t be giving this place another try, even though it is right around the corner from my house.

Don’t waste your time or money on this place. My guess is that it won’t be around much longer. We walked in tonight(July 25th2012) for dinner and we were not impressed. The place was empty with the exception of one four top seated with three people and a family of four walking out the door while the owner was apologizing to them for the service being slow… really? The place is empty! Upon looking at the menu another red flag came up that some of the items were crossed off of it with a magic marker saying that they did not offer those items any longer… come on, the place is new so what’s up with that? My concern is that if this place does not serve up a high volume of food/sushi I would not want to order anything that contained seafood which is what most sushi is made up of. I would have to question the freshness and quality of their food. I certainly do not want to risk the chance of getting sick over food not being very fresh and my personal take and foodie experience tells me to stay away from this place it’s not worth it! End result, we DIDNOT stay to eat dinner here!
