Toy emporium for many geeks and children. I fall into the geek category, scouring for star war and marvel comic movie collectibles. This store is kind of dumpy and not a newer store.

We all know why adults even enter a toy store these days. It’s not for enjoyment, it’s not for a good deal, and it’s not for our sanity. We come here because half of what children want cannot be found in regular big box discount stores. We torture ourselves by traversing the maze of bright and flashy to find that one item that the child must have. There is definitely no enjoyment for an adult here, not even when you have a child with you. It’s much the same for a child, but the torture comes when you cannot have that item on the shelf that you really don’t want but figure a tantrum might just get it for you. With that little rant out of the way I was able to come here, snag the one item my niece wanted for her birthday and be on my way. I hate when you get the register and are asked if you want to be part of the rewards program. How many times do I have to tell them that I don’t buy toys often? Well, big kids toys like electronics, but not the ones made of plastic anymore. Checkout was swift and the happiest moment was when I returned to my car. I overheard a grandfather telling his grandchild not to break what he just bought him… good luck with that.

the quality of childrens toys these days has really gone down hill. kids are too much pokemon and the video games. it is really bad for their eyes and other body parts. kids need a soccor ball and they need to devolp relationships like those europeons.

I just spend a few hundred dollars there and only to have the manager KIM slam my toys and have a horrible attitude with me because we were able to price match nearly all of the toys. I have never had such a negative experience in a business and I recommend to stay away from this location. My money will be spent at target and wal-mart from now on that’s for sure!!!

I drove an hour to get to the store because they are the only store that carries the highly-rated crib we wanted, in the wood we wanted. Stood in line, etc and made the order. That was two weeks ago. I tried to type in the order number online to see if the item had shipped and got an error message. After two phone calls to TRU, I was told«online store is a different company than the physical stores.» They handle orders differently. When I then called the store(transfer to manager), they told me the order ws «approved»(they charged my credit card when I ordered) but they could not tell me when the crib would be shipped or when it would be delivered. The manager said she didn’t have a phone number or email to shipping. What a disorganized company(or is it companies)! Many of the displays are shopworn, goods are a mix of cheap and expensive, and the store is crowded and poorly organized. It’s hard to find things.

Ok, I am going to sound like a scrooge, but I don’t particular like Toys R Us. I say this in spite of its awesome location just off of McKnight Rd(southern entrance to Ross Park Mall), and in spite of the fact that in any given school year, there are 50million birthday parties to attend. Every time we are lured in by a promotion, there is a catch. A big catch! This especially happened when purchasing much needed baby items. Last year we bought a rather large gym set/playhouse from TRU. They no longer offer assembly but the set was at a pretty decent price compared to every other dealer we checked out. The catch? None of the parts were specifically marked to correspond to the directions. It took 3 truck loads to pick up all of the parts boxes and they weighed a ton! Result? It took over 6 weeks for 3 highly educated, self starter types to construct . Back to the store. As a child, I fondly remember trips to the TRU equivalent, Children’s Palace in Monroeville. It was a magical place and so where the employees. Each one, regardless of age, seemed to hold close to heart the joy of being a kid. A far cry from the present day TRU associate. Mechanical and business like. Perhaps they have seen one too manyspoiled, children demanding more. Who knows. All I know it isn’t a funeral home, it’s a toy store. Mr Magorium’s Emporium it’s not, but how about some smiles.
