Wow, very nice place. Can’t wait to go back. History, sweet find, good food, and great old building. Andrew A. kinda said it all.

What a great place for dinner in Placerville! Tim from Madrona recommend the Smith House. We owe him a debt of gratitude! Yann had the Ratatouille and I had the Boulibase. Plus the Carol Tuttle Trio was playing. It meant so much to me to hear live Jazz on Father’s Day. Thank you!

Beautiful setting outside as dusk. Solid menu and good cuisine. Pleasant but absent minded service, easily distracted. Warm friendly ambiance. Intend to spread the word and eat there often.

My friends and I came here because we heard that this place is amazing. Which it was amazing, the history, the customer service, and how quaint and beautiful this place is. The reason why I give this place 3 stars is because it took us an hour to get our food and when our pork loin came out it was cold. It probably has been sitting out for awhile. My friend got the salmon and the salmon was phenomenal. Anyhow, later the head chef was waking around asking the guest how everything is. My friends husband told him that it took an hour to get our food and our food was cold. Pork loin was a little tough and dry. The head chef was so sweet and apologize and wanted to make it up somehow. He was honestly very genuine and wanted to make our experience better. Anyhow, he gave us all dessert comp which was nice. I thought he should have at least comp one of our meals… but dessert was very sweet. I would actually come back and give it another try. It happens! Customer service was great and that is a big thing for me! If the service was bad I wouldn’t have even think about coming back here again. I’m sure the next time I come back the food will be better.

Enjoyed a delicious Mother’s Day dinner at the Smith Flat House with my family. Everything about the evening was delightful. The place itself is set in a beautiful building with a charming atmosphere. Once we arrived we checked in and were greeted by a lovely lady who gave me a rose and sat us. The wait staff was pleasant and very pleasing when it came to our dinning experience. We where so satisfied with our delicious and well served dinner that we look forward to eating here again. Thank you for making my night wonderful.

My husband and I came here on Valentine’s Day and were disappointed. My husband had made a reservation 3+ weeks in advance and when we got there they couldn’t find our reservation and acted like we were making it up. When they sat us, we were put next to a group of 15+ and the waitress seemed way to inexperienced to serve them, us, and the 2 other tables in her section. She checked on us maybe twice throughout the entire dining experience and we had to stop her numerous times just for bread and water refills. I was 6 months pregnant at the time and finished both mine and my husbands water before stopping her for a refill. The food was also mediocre, we could have gone to cattlemen’s for a much better steak for half the price. Lastly, it took the waitress 30+ minutes to bring us our bill. This review is really just getting 2 stars for the atmosphere. As a side note, on the way home my husband received a text message reminding him of our reservation, which was 2 hours after our scheduled time.

A great night celebrating a friends birthday. A jazz and was playing and the atmosphere was fantastic. I had the porch chop. It was Devine. We passed a lot of plates and everything was marvelous. The cheese platter appetizer was especially delicious. With honey and manchego. Definitely a great place to celebrate or for an intimate date night.

Update to previous… Can I give more than 5 stars? Seriously… service has always been top notch. Menu and food quality has always been outstanding. I didn’t really feel like Smith Flat House needed to make many changes but since the change of ownership, they have just gotten better! New owners John and Debbie are SUPERFRIENDLY and are really involved in what is happening in their restaurant. They genuinely care about the type of experience you are having at their establishments. Emerick…still our favorite waiter of all time, always makes sure that our visit is a memorable one and usually finds some way to make us smile. If you ask him real nice(and he is not too busy) he might just play a song on the piano for you… always a real treat! A couple new faces on the staff since we were here last… all of which who are warm, friendly and professional. Everything on the menu is delicious but whatever you decide to order,(and this is absolutely necessary) order the Pappardelle to go along with your meal. This is like a mac n cheese dish only fancy and 10 times better. This is the mac n cheese sent from Heaven to us as a glorious gift to all who call themselves a food lover. Smith Flat House… an amazingly historical and intriguing old building is quite the gem of El Dorado county. And no… I don’t work there… I just love to eat there.

This review is for the Smith Flat House wedding venue package. My fiancé and I toured the Smith Flat House as a potential wedding venue. Ultimately, we decided to go with a different venue, but our experience touring was so great. Heather answered our thousands of questions, showed us the outside even though it was cold and dark, and drafted up many sample bills for us. We went with somewhere else due to location and cost(Smith Flat House was still inexpensive compared to most places). Definitely a venue worth checking out!

New owner ship since April 1, 2016. Anniversary dinner here was a dynamite choice! Stop Unilocaling and just come here if your nearby for some dinner. Me and my wifey came here to enjoy some nice dinner after a long day of sipping. We were hungry and starving. We came here around 5pm on a Sunday evening. We were the first customers for dinner, we were led to the dining area down stairs. The server was very attentive and informative with the menu, when we had questions. One of my electronic devices was dying, and you know i can’t live without Unilocal social media, so i had to find a place to charge. The server took care of the problem and helped me find an outlet for it. We ordered the $ 18 vegetarian pizza with sun dried tomatoes, Portebello mushrooms, artichoke hearts, spinach, and feta cheese. The pizza was steaming hot and crisp on the bottom. The ingredients on top literally melts in your mouth with every bite. I got the 4 oz filet mignon wrapped in bacon, a bunch fresh thick asparagus(5pcs), and a loaded bake potato for only $ 20. The filet was cooked to medium rare perfection. I enjoyed every bite of it and had some major foodgasm silence when i got a taste of the bacon wrapped filet mignon. Schilling Apple cider — This cider was sparkling, refreshing, crisp, cold, served in a wonderful mason jar, and its not your ordinary angry orchard, just the simpleness of this drink was bomb. Overall the food is excellent, quality is good, price is reasonable for the environment. The service is attentive, friendly, and quick. a beautiful venue. I love the live band who was doing a great job with the relaxing romantic music. Every time it was time to clap, i sure was the loudest one to support it. Also can’t forget a good tip for the music service. I don’t give 5 stars much to restaurants, but everything was on point. This is a great place for a night out or a special date. Keep it up with the quality of this place. Can’t wait to come here on a Weekend to visit the bartender to get some specials! Thanks for reading and stop Unilocaling, come here!

We came here for our anniversary dinner after reading reviews. The ambiance is amazingly cool and we had our hopes up for an awesome experience. We were not disappointed! Our waiter as awesome. Not only did he tell us about the menu, but explained the history of the building. The food was just as incredible. We had the famous mac’n’cheese w/prosciutto. Incredible! We also had the prime rib which was also delicious. We can’t wait to come back and bring friends.

We have always had a great experience at Smith Flat House. Their pasta dishes are great, especially the Mac and Cheese, as is their local wine selection. The setting is nice and the service that I’ve received is always very good. I’ve never had to wait long to get a table, even on the weekends. For me, it lived up to the hype.

3.5. Beautiful venue. Love the history and the cool mine below. Great place for a date! Problem is, I’m married and have kids. Flashback 20 years maybe… Came here for a dinner party. We were seated outside. While we didn’t freeze, it wasn’t warm. Duh. Server was attentive. Felt bad he had to go in the cold to deliver our food. Food was good. The salads were memorable. The entrees not as much. Salads we light, fresh, tasty. I believe I ordered their house salad w/greens, walnuts, gorgonzola, apples. I was impressed w/the light dressing that touched on the highlights of the fresh produce. Took a star off, since we did not receive our food at the same time. One of the gals in our party had to wait about 20 more minutes for her food(mac n cheese). Dilemma, do you wait until everyone has their food to eat, while your food gets freezing cold? She was kind enough to suggest we start, which we did, since we had already waited about an hour for our food(we did have appetizers, etc). But it was late and the kids were hungry. Desserts were ok, but I guess I was tired from waiting so long. Bathrooms were clean and cool. Didn’t think the menu was revolutionary or contemporary. Solid food. A friend got engaged here and really hyped it up, so I guess I was expecting more. Neat place, cool location, good food… just not mind-blowing. If you’re in the area, I would say I prefer the food at Heyday Café in general(a bit more sophisticated). But this place wins hands down for ambiance/setting/romantic mood. Food isn’t bad, just not as delicious as the menu describes it. My husband always says you have to give a place a second chance. Might do so sometime, but not racing to get back anytime soon. I do applaud that their prices are not outrageous though, and service was more friendly here than Heyday. This ‘feels’ more historic.

Just finished dinner. After a day at Apple hill and wanting to wait out traffic we pulled off to this amazing place! It was fancier than we thought and we had 3 kids so we were worried. But the staff sat us in a perfect room! They were so friendly and so attentive! The food was seriously so good all of our plates were wiped clean. The Mac and cheese and meat pizza and fig pizza all perfect. We will be back in January for the Christmas special envelope we got! Love this place!

Stopped to have lunch here on the way back to San Francisco from Tahoe. The restaurant is located in an old gold mine cellar and it had an amazing vibe. Food was decent. Roasted Wild Mushrooms was delicious. It worked very well with the polenta cake, and the poached egg was a wonderful bonus. Spicy bourbon mussels were well seasoned and very flavorful. My favorite was the smith flat linguine. We had sausage and fresh pasta in a mix of red and white sauce. Yummy. They also have microbrews and cider at $ 4.50! Unfortunately they ran out of the figs and prosciutto so I’d definitely be back to have that!

Can you say hidden gem? No, really… this restaurant is literally down an old mine shaft people. Our group had spent the afternoon wine tasting and wanted some eats before heading further down the hill. Thanks to Unilocal, found this place. And thankfully arrived early enough to get in without a reservation. Building is unassuming. Restaurant is actually down a steep flight of stairs in a former mine shaft turned warmly lit restaurant. We all absolutely loved the atmosphere and watched as this place got hopping on a Saturday night. I could see this being a great date night spot for people living in the area. Food was all well prepared and very reasonably priced… and all delicious. Love how they have a female sommelier on staff ready to pair delicious local wines as well. She knows her stuff! In fact, the whole staff was very friendly. Must be that clean mountain air… Added bonus: quite entertaining to watch the wait staff run up and down that flight of stairs with their trays.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Placerville. I LOVE coming here for a beautiful dining experience. It’s our go-to for birthdays, anniversaries or when we feel like treating ourselves to something extra special. I love how the menu changes seasonally because there’s always something new and amazing to experience. Fish tacos, beef stew, some amazing pork appetizer that was out of this world… and all the ingredients are FRESH. I love the focus on local, farm to table. They feature lovely wines. Dessert? Incredible. Especially the almond caramel tartlet. This is the kind of restaurant that you want to support if you’re sick of all the chains. If that weren’t enough the wait staff is outstanding and always make me feel extremely well taken care of. They go out of their way to create an atmosphere of excellence. This is fabulous local dining!
