Watched this place go right into the ground. It closed in October of 2015, but didn’t announce it publicly until December. It’s May 2016 now — there may still be people inside waiting for their order. Godawful at the end. Rumor has it a new operator(folks who own Cascada) is re-opening — anyone know anything?

Worse place for Mexican food. Coffee mugs were dirty with old coffee rim and some had lipstick stains. Orange juice was light brown and tasted almost fermented. Apple Carnitas were not bad but the food was cold, rice was perhaps a day or two old. Salsa was not fresh. I felt ripped off paying for awful food and service. It is a nice looking place that has potential but under a different management, perhaps.

I grew up in Placerville and ate here a couple times. Hated it then. Moved back up to the area a couple years ago and in dire need to satisfy my Mexican craving do we tried this place again. Man nothing has changed. The food it terrible! The margaritas are terrible and the service is terrible. It’s beyond me how this place stays in business except most people can’t cook so they think this is good cooking? It’s nothing more than microwaved frozen food, store bought tortilla chips(that have been sitting stale on a shelf somewhere), and salsa they picked up at the grocery outlet. At this point I think they are out of business and hoping another GOOD place to eat will fill this place. Of course after they renovate the molding wet building.

I only give a star because the salsa was good and I can’t give less then a star. The service was OK, given the fact we got no refills and she never came back to the table but to bring the food and a check. She food was awful, they are certainly way over priced for what they make. It took 45 min from when we sat down to get our plates. I could of cooked a much better meal at home. What a waste of a trip and money spent. Not to mention the bathrooms were filthy with no toilet pads nor paper towels !

Came in with two small children 5 and under before a party of three adults with one complaining about having wine without dinner and they took that party before us. Do not go here!!! Saw three parties leave because of poor service as we waited to be seated. Bad etiquette and poor service. Definitely come here if you want to wait an hour for soup or even to take your order. I’m so upset. My kids are hungry and cold.

I cannot say enough about this amazing family restaurant! WOW! Shaylee, Hayden and Riley truly go above and beyond creating the best experience and the food is absolutely the best in all the area! Do yourself a favor and come to Tortilla Flats for the best food and ambiance you can possibly wish for in a restaurant!

To sum up our experience: The good: Friendly wait staff. Good flavor on dishes. The bad: Waited over an hour for our food. Four out of the five dishes served were cold. Inattentive staff who were not coordinated with one another. One dish was served 10 minutes after the rest I am really bummed out that the overall experience was not good. As said, the flavors of the salsas and the individual dishes were quite tasty. It seemed like the kitchen was really lagging behind and that management is not on top of the staff to run an efficient establishment.

Worst service ever. As stated by previous customers the food took over an hour and when we complained the manager, Shaylee, she got defensive and argued back with us telling us that our ticket was stamped so it has actually only been 45 minutes… She then informed us that ours was the next ticket up. By the time our food did come out, about 15 minutes later, the food was luke warm at best. When we told the manager she said«well I saw them plate it». No one finished their meals since the food was cold and we had already been there for an hour and a half. I was a waitress and I understand that the kitchen gets backed up but to have a combative manager on the floor is never a good idea. Looking around we noticed we weren’t the only table waiting an absurdly long time for our food. Another patron came up to us and mentioned that their table was frustrated as well. Cold food, terrible management, needless to say we will not be returning.

I have not eaten at Tortilla Flats for several years and will not until there is a change in ownership. Had an awful, embarrassing experience with the staff which resulted in this loyal, local diner to never eat there again. Once owned by Mark and Diane, we would frequent TF at least weekly. Diane was the crafter of the menu and kitchen. Hands down the best carnitas anywhere! Once the restaurant sold and changed hands a few times, we continued our loyalty but never received the service or quality we came to love. In short, the wife of the husband and wife ownership team, confronted my husband and I about skipping out on a tab during a prior visit. Sadly, she was likely right… checked our bank records when we got home. We left the restaurant without paying our tab(something that we still can’t wrap our head around how that happened, but there was a margarita involved) We would never knowingly not pay a tab and were mortified when approached by the owner. I asked her how much was the tab, I will pay her right now! No, she wanted an apology. An apology?! how about we pay? this all transpired in their main dining room filled with several interested patrons. Hands down the most humiliating experience! Once the mostly absent husband of this ownership team came to our rescue, he apologized for his wife’s behavior and offered us a free meal. Nope, won’t take it. TF lost a long time local customer over 40 dollars(which by the way we estimated was the total of the owed tab. We ran to the ATM and returned with the cash). I am at fault for skipping out. Didnt mean to and am horrified this happened. However her behavior was careless. Literally. His attempt to soothe was too little too late. We love Casa Ramos and happily dine there several times a month. Skip TF and head to Casa Ramos. You won’t be sorry!

Stopped in for a late chili verde burrito. Service was good and the food was respectable. Nothing fancy, but I’d come again.

Seated in the bar with my 12yr old son — really? Service sucks! The people are mean! The salsa is made from sauce in a can– gross!

When we first came in the manager told us she had been cussed out repeatedly that night. That put me on her team due to the sympathy factor. But as our dining experience progressed I understood why others had gotten upset(not that bad dining ever calls for someone to cuss anyone out, but I got why they were pissed). We waited an hour for our food. I had to ask the waitress where our food was. She never came over to explain that there was a large party ahead of us, which would have helped us be a bit more understanding. After we asked, we waited. Then we waited some more. We asked to speak to the manager and our waitess told us «the manager is too busy to talk to you.» When we asked what could be more important than talking to customers our waitress replied«running the restaurant». No joke. That is what she said. We told her to forget it, we would just air our grievances on Unilocal, which is always our last resort for poor service. Mind you, the place was not busy. So it should have not taken over an hour, even with a party there. When I walked up to the front, the manager was chatting so she was clearly full of it and just didn’t want to deal with any more disgruntled customers that night. I wouldn’t either, but alas, that is the managers primary job. As for the food, it was mediocre for the most part. The tortilla soup was the worst I have ever had. Please do not order it. Most of our food was cold to boot. However, the shredded beef taco was good. It was the only redeeming feature of the evening, aside from the company I was with. We used to recommend this place all the time. We will not do so again. So due to one crappy attitude by the manager, and a waitress that has no business in this profession, Tortilla Flats has lost the business of about 15 people. Sucks for them. I am giving the one extra star for the good shredded beef, which was also on my mom’s tostada. My husband said the enchilada was okay. My dad said the tamale was pretty bad. He didn’t finish it.

We stopped in for dinner last night at Tortilla Flats as a party of 13. There were several employees working but nobody seemed to be able to handle their jobs. The restaurant was dead when we walked in(about 6:30pm on a Sunday) I counted 2 people at the bar and one table occupied with about 4 waitresses on staff. The beer I was served was room temperature and flat. Our orders were wrong and the ones that were right were all missing key ingredients, which when we asked about it, the waitresses admitted they were out of items so they just assumed we wouldn’t notice the difference in taste, and served us fucked up food anyways. I had to ask 5 times to three different waitresses over the course of 38 minutes to refill our waters or leave a pitcher so we could serve ourselves. Later that night the kids and myself had stomach pains which ment the food was likely left out of temp or rotten. The chips they served us were stale. I know now why the restaurant was empty when we walked in. I hope they don’t get anyone sick. The boys seemed better this morning. Never Again! Tortilla Flats, never again.

In the past, this establishment was once something great perhaps. Interior is tired, tacky bar swag, and just not an overall feel of being welcoming. We arrived at lunch time, so maybe things look better in the dark. I said hello before the host could get a single word out, this is after eye contact and several seconds, and we(3 adults, 1 child) were seated. Our server was somewhat prompt and pleasant, asked for our drink order and if we wanted chips and salsa or a quesadilla but failed to sell the point we had a choice. Received the chips and salsa and drinks and our server took our food order. Our party was enjoying each others company, and had something to nibble on so we tended not to look at how much time had passed since our main order had been processed. Finishing our chips and salsa and one drink, I began to clock the order, it had been a good 25 minutes since our order was placed and everyone was getting just a bit hungry. I looked around to see not a single staff member on the floor for a good 5 – 10 minutes. It wasn’t busy by any means, so the host, bartender, or any server could have been on the floor touching tables to see if any table, not just ours, needed anything such as refills, etc. My guess was that it was slow enough they had time to chitty chat out of sight . Our food arrived looking tired as the surroundings, my sister in law’s burrito mojado had some red sauce that had a gloppy appearance, salsa rojos rely on preparation without thickeners, with the chiles and vegetables providing texture and substance. My nephew shared this with mom, though he seemed uninterested, can’t blame him. My mother in law had a chicken quesadilla that was visually disappointing as well, I know there’s not much to a quesadilla but the tortilla was flabby, devoid of any color, pretty sure it didn’t see a flat top or broiler and paid a visit to the microwave, served with brown guacamole. My tacos al carbon had 3 meats, dried out bland carne asada, carnitas, and pollo, which was seasoned with what I assume was a poor attempt at conchinita pibil marinade under a green cloak of scallion and cilantro. The food was edible, but a poor example of any type of mexican cuisine. I didn’t feel like talking down the bill for compensation of a poor meal and service, we wanted to finish and get home. The staff maybe friendly, but is inattentive, poorly trained for proper table service, and like the food at Tortilla Flats, as Hank Williams would say«I’m so tired of it all».

I really wanted to like this place. Cute exterior, in a great part of Placerville, and it smelled fantastic inside… unfortunately some of the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had… how do you mess up a burrito??? First off — the service was poor. As we walked up, the woman taking our order to-go kept talking to her coworker about who gets off first tonight, and which section each person should serve that night… it just seemed like a conversation that should’ve been had in the back and not around customers. I stood there listening to the conversation to end before I could place my order. It just felt rude, as if my to-go order was inconveniencing her. As I ordered, I was trying to explain how I’d like my burrito(I like to omit quite a few things), and she kept interrupting me with questions about which salsa I preferred on it. First off, just let me get the order out then I’m happy to answer all clarifications you need from my order. I felt like I couldn’t explain what I wanted and in the end, they forgot to put the salsa on the burrito that I asked for anyway. Ok now for the food itself — horrible!!! Yuck! The lettuce was disgusting, it tasted old and rancid and I had to pick it out. They did a poor job of wrapping the burrito which seems like one of the easiest parts of making the meal to me. There was barely any cheese, they forgot to put salsa on it, and there were 2HUGE chunks of tomatoes in the burrito instead of diced tomatoes. The only reason I’m giving it 1 star is because the beans were good. I spent nearly $ 12 on that damn burrito and got ripped off. I’ll never be returning– what a let down.

Two check ins and I’m the Duke? Well alrighty then! Lol guess I owe this dukedom to my girlfriend cause she was craving their tamale again this evening. I ordered the ground beef chimichanga and it was really good. Ordered a shot of tequila at the bar waiting for my food and the bartender had to go to the front counter to run the tab. Kinda weird set up. Also as I posted in my tip. My order was to go. Cmon guys, throw in the plastic forks and knives and napkins for crying out loud. That’s just normal business practice.

Stopped in with visiting family. Food was above average but service was slow. Seemed like they had to many tables for our poor waitress to handle. She was nice and friendly though. It was a Saturday and I’d think they’d have staffed more folks. A bit warm inside temperature wise too. I got the enchiladas. Nice smoke flavor in the meat. The salsa they give you with the chips was really good. Fresh herbs were obviously used and it showed in the taste.

This was the first time that my family and I had been to this establishment. The atmosphere was great. The food was great. And the waitress that we has was awesome. We enjoyed the conversation we had. To me and my family having a conversation and being attentive is one of the great qualities of a waitress/waiter. I have had very few of these servers. But Robin here at Tortilla Flats in Placerville, CA was great. The food has just the right amount of spiciness. My mother-in-law & my husband are not fans of heat(spicy) and the food was not spicy. The salsa has a great taste and again not too spicy.

Updating because the owner is just downright rude! In my previous review I said that my mom knows the owner. Well since I mentioned my mom in the review, she read my review and knew immediately who wrote it(she must not personally know anyone else who eats there). Anyway, since she knew it was me who wrote a bad review(my previous review wasn’t even bad! It was just critical of her rudeness!), you’d think she would try harder to be a little bit nicer, but nope. She was actually more rude and colder than before. She barely even said hi to us when we all walked in. Didn’t say thank you to us when we left. My mom forgot her phone and had to go back after we were done eating and the owner talked to her about the review I wrote. She said business hasn’t been great because of it. I guess that goes to show you how powerful Unilocal reviews are. I still stand by my review though. Waiters are always friendly, food is always good. She just needs to change her attitude. I felt kind of bad for her but she should try being a little nicer to customers!
