This is a great local place! The food is fresh, with a unique twist. The menu is small but there is something for everyone. Seasonal selections are offered. The beer selection is highly recommended, and the cocktails are delicious.

Fantastic! Get the Devine swine, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever had. The Brussels sprout were really good too. Service is great and so is the atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back.

Ive had about a dozen meals here and been numerous other times for an app or cocktail. Things are good and stable here, service is good; I love the evolving beer selections… though I get a little tired of being called«man» at times. I also hope the sippy-cup and stroller moms realize there may be other spots for this kind of crowd better suited to that. Thats my opinion. Not management’s fault on that one. Places with beer lockers, tatooed/pierced staff, heavy metal music generally aren’t geared towards that clientele; but the Tap House and Chilis do… so there’s other options.(Rant over). Menu is OK; not super inventive, but it’ll do. All the food tastes fresh, well prepared and flavorful. My largest concern to date is that the bread that is served is revolting. I will pay more for a higher quality bread; not this pop and bake wonder roll stuff. Secondly, the Cobb Salad needs some serious work. I would stay away from it for now. Otherwise, I really like this place and hope it thrives!!!

Everyone kept telling us to try this place and I’m so glad we did. It was amazing! The ambiance is cool and lively and the service, despite being very crowded, was great. The brussel sprout appetizer was on point. I had the veggie pita and my husband the burger with bacon… Both were delicious! The craft beer selection is vast and bartenders fun. One of the best(if not the best) restaurant in the area. We will most definitely be going back again.

Too many times gastropubs under-deliver and are overly pretentious. This is not the case with Sovereign. Great food, inventive cocktails, and as an English teacher… I enjoy the creative names for the menu items.

I’m happy we found this place. Parking lot in the back, easy to find. It’s laid back atmosphere. It’s a city type restaurant out here in the burbs. I would bring my kids if I had to but I’d rather go here just me and my husband. I got the«Hipster v Achilles» and it was really good, I’d get it 20 more times– it’s portobello mushroom with onion and tomato with feta and tzatiki sauce on toasted naan bread, yum! My husband thinks it was a little too much feta though, but I loved it. I got it a few weeks later as take out and unfortunately the drive from the restaurant to home just doesn’t keep the food the same, so it’s best to eat in! All the food tasted really good, I’m happy to have this place close by where the owners really care about food! We also got the butterscotch pie for dessert and it was just amazing. I absolutely recommend this place.

Sovereign is hands-down the best restaurant in the Plainfield/Joliet area and their craft beer selection is unmatched in it’s breadth and frequency of change. If you care about eating minimally processed and locally sourced food that’s served in a creative manner, then you’ll definitely like it. If you eat at Applebee’s all the time, you’ll think it’s over-priced and probably won’t get what they are doing. The atmosphere is very inviting and strikes an incredible balance of a place you want to go for a nice dinner, as well as a place you want to visit to simply try some great beers and maybe have some appetizers. The staff is very seasoned and the service is everything you want in a place such as this. I highly recommend the Brussel Sprouts, Sausage Fest and Dig on Swine. As an avid craft beer drinker, it’s my #1 destination to try a wide variety of craft beers from local micro breweries. The selections change on a daily basis and if you’re lucky, they will have some Werk Force beers on tap when you get there. The staff and owners are very experienced in craft beers and that shines through.

Such a great place, great food, comfortable atmosphere. I highly recommend this spot. The food and drinks are all from local farms and breweries/distilleries. The menu is limited but what they do have is a very delicious selection. I went for lunch so there was no wait, but the place is small so I can only imagine during the evening what the wait might be. Their drink menu has some creative things and the beer on tap seems to change frequently. I will certainly return!

My husband and I were really looking forward to trying this place, but we were really disappointed with most aspects. I’ll try to be concise here: Food: Menu is pretty small, but there is nothing inherently wrong with that. I ordered a burger, hubs ordered a spicy pork sandwich, «The Widow Maker». The burger was was billed as a house-ground bacon and brisket blend; I just didn’t care for it much. It tasted kind of pork-y, but not in a good way, and it was actually 2 smallish patties stacked on top of one another so they slid all over the place. The ground pork also means you can’t get this cooked below«done.» I had fries with it, and they were clearly house-made, but not well executed. They were dark brown, greasy, and limp, and had a bitter taste to them. I think their fry oil was old and/or not hot enough. Hubby said his sandwich was OK, it was a little light on the filling compared to the amount of bread, and the jalapenos were just thrown in a pile on each half so there was one or two spicy bites and the rest didn’t have heat. The pork itself was pretty good, he liked the kale side he ordered(I was tried the kale and thought it was pretty plain). Drink: This was one of the most disappointing aspects. My husband was really, really looking forward to a large craft brew list, but we were a little confounded by their choices. The day we dined, there were 25 drafts, and 15(!!) of them were stouts or porter. That’s a lot of dark, heavy beer! And not what either of us usually drinks with a meal. Most of the other 10 were sours, with some really high-alcohol barleywine types mixed in. And one rye flavored with pepper. Almost every beer they offered was being served in a 10oz snifter because they were all that heavy. I really respect that they choose mainly local and all craft, but within those parameters there are still lots of great red or amber ales, pilsners, pale ales, IPAs, etc to be had. I ended up trying a Blood Orange Gose, which was interesting but really tart, and hubs had one stout and something else in a snifter that he wasn’t super happy with. Ambiance: They did a great job with the building, it’s and old house with a cool feel. Loved the music they had playing in the background. Unfortunately, we were seated in a long, narrow room(converted sunroom, maybe? Lots of pretty windows) with a screaming toddler at either end of the room. Now, I can’t really fault the restaurant for that– it’s just bad luck– but it totally killed the vibe. Service: The gentleman that served us was nice enough, but he never told us about any specials even though several items on their menu are rotating market price options, and there seemed to be big gaps between his visits to our table. He just didn’t seem to be very enthusiastic about… anything. Sigh… TL;DR Food was lackluster, beer list was way too specific. About $ 50 for 3 beers and 2 sandwiches, before tip. We won’t return.

I love the fact that Soverign is a farm-to-table restaurant, but, because of this, the menu is a little lackluster. When I tried ordering brussel sprouts as an appetizer they weren’t ready yet because they were shipped in that morning. I appreciate the freshness but it cuts back on an already-small menu. I ordered the Klinger Wants Home with a side of salted green beans. Overall, it was very delicious and the spicy mayo gave it its kick. My favorite part of my lunch was the bloody mary. It comes garnished with a hot wing, celery, pickle, cheese and meat. It burns in the best way possible. Only 3⁄5 stars for the price as well. For three eating lunch it was $ 75. Good first experience but I’m not dying to go back.

First trip here and would absolutely come back. Beer selection was good and reasonably priced and the food was very solid. I ordered the pork and jalapeño sandwich and it was amazing. The garlic mashed potatoes were top notch as well. For me the biggest compliment I can give is that the food needed absolutely 0 seasoning and was packed with flavor. I highly, highly recommend!

Was told hour wait, after a hour 15 I went and asked how much longer, short guy in tight jeans insisted that we stay and that we will have a table in 30 min… that didn’t happen! Ended up waiting for 2 hour to spend $ 40 on 4 drinks that were terribly made. Not very friendly either! Make sure to wear your tight jeans and hipster clothes!

Where do I start?! This place was phenomenal! My wife and I decided to Unilocal restaurants in the Plainfield area, and Sovereign came up. I appreciated the private lot for parking, because it can be difficult to find parking on Main St. We were seated right away for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. My wife ordered a delicious beer, and our meals came out in a very timely manner. The food was SOGOOD that we didn’t talk at all except to say, «This is SOGOOD!!! Do you want to try it?!?» I really liked the atmosphere of this restaurant. It has the perfect blend of home-like and modern. All of the food they serve is grown locally from different areas, and this is something that more restaurants need to start doing. Our lunch of 2 entrees, one beer, one coffee, plus tax was about $ 70. Yes, it is a bit pricey, BUT you are definitely getting quality, non-GMO food. Great service as well! :)

Now this is my place for a good hangout. This is my go to bar when I don’t go to the city… good food, good selection on brews. And if you’re not into the ales, they have some wine on tap. Try their pork belly sandwich. Compliments well a good IPA. Free parking. Plenty of seating with tv’s all around. Staff seemed pretty cool. You may want to call ahead for hours since I showed up once before 10pm… even though they advertised closing at midnight.

I LOVED Sovereign! Our server was awesome in recommending some of his favorite entrees and appetizers. I started off with their ‘Repentless’ cocktail infused with strawberry koval bourbon and basil — one of my favorite drinks I’ve ever had! My boyfriend and I then split the small plate tacos with chorizo and potatoes(SODELICIOUS), risotto(flavor changes daily and I highly recommend) and brussel sprouts. I got the Wiccan Chicken that I ate every bite of — so tasty! My boyfriend got the Widow Maker and loved it. If you’re in the Plainfield area or a nearby suburb, I highly recommend. They even have a cute patio outside for the warmer weather months.

This place is amazing. I have had lunch 3 times so far and everytime I received excellent service. Solid find in downtown Plainfield. The wait staff is very polite and know the menu very well. The food was amazing. I enjoyed the unique takes on standard grub. I have had there famous tacos, and Widow Maker sandwich. No complaints except tacos are very small. If they added another taco and charge an extra $ 2.00 it would be worth it.(Its just my personal opinion) Prices are fairly high for lunch time but I don’t mind paying. Good food, fresh, healthy, and good service, worth the extra coin. Beer is great, many to choose from with detailed descriptions. Finally a place that dosent sell garbage beer!!! No Corona, MGD, Miller you know what I’m talking about. They have there own parking lot, so far I have not had any issues parking. Very clean bathrooms… I’m looking forward to trying many of there other items on menu, including beers. Great place weather you eat alone; with a friend or group.

I love this place so much. My only regret is that we don’t often have a babysitter and don’t get to come here as much as we would like.(I suppose I could bring my child, but what fun would that be?!) The food is always delicious and the service has always been excellent. I love that the menu changes often, as it should when fresh, local ingredients are being offered. I love that the setting is not too stuffy. I like when places really focus on the food and not on the silverware and place settings, because I don’t care as much about that. The drink list is also great. I love all the whiskey cocktails and the draft beer selection is great!

Wow! The food is amazing! We came here to try something new not really knowing what to expect, we were not disappointed! The building from The outside does not really give off the look of a restaurant so make sure you don’t miss it! The parking lot is nice and big so no need to worry about finding a spot! We were greeted by the hostess at the door and promptly sat at what seemed like the furtherest table in the restaurant. But it was actually a really nice spot! Lots of fun decorations to look at and not to much noise around us, and we were not forgotten about ;) The speciality drinks were awesome! I tried a few and liked them, also many many different beers to try… the food menu is not super big but it does not need to be! They have specials from each section that change all the time! I got the enchiladas and they were to die for!!! I am craving them now thinking about it! Boyfriend got the filet and it was melt in your mouth good! I can not wait to come back and try the tacos(I heard those were very good too!)

I’ve been back a few times since my first review and my experience this weekend prompted me to update. With the menu always changing and them having different things at lunch and dinner, I’ve yet to find my «favorite» dish here. However, we stopped in Saturday night for a friend’s birthday and I definitely think it was my best experience so far. We did have an hour wait for a group of 5 which sucked, especially because we didn’t end up being seated til after 9 but what can you do. I started with the house salad, which is always good here. The soup was a spicy chicken and it was AMAZING. I could have eaten 3 bowls of it. So good. We also had the frites with egg on top which was very delicious. My friend and I split the banana cream pie for dessert which was the perfect ending. Service was good and they split our check which was awesome. Only complaint this visit: my friend wanted the fruit salad and was told they only serve it at lunch even though online it is on their dinner menu. I’ve noticed their online menu and the in person menu are often different. Also, I am missing their delicious sourdough bread! I hope it comes back.
