Had a few hours to kill on a day off from work. This place is basically a multi screen and video race track. There are many tracks you can bet on so there is constant action. The races go off probably every five or 10 minutes so there was always something to bet on and this is a big positive. It is what it is and doesn’t claim to be any more than that. What you will find here is a bunch of men with newspapers and reading glasses staring in a very focused way as the horses meander around the track. I sat there for two hours and the waitresses never approached me for a food order. Had they done so I might’ve been motivated to order a drink or something to eat but since they did not I just sat quietly and made a few bets. For me it was kind of a boring experience so if you’re not a big better who is playing horses this probably won’t be an exciting place for you to go. As far as the food goes I don’t know but it look like basic fare. I’m not a restaurant entrepreneur or anything like that but I think with some tweaking they could make this place a much better destination. As of now to me as I said it’s a glorified OTB Parlor.

Seedy So we were looking for a place to watch the race and thought that this might be the ticket — well not really what I thought it was going to be. Imagine a big room in a casino where a bunch of weird old dudes with their racing forms would be located and you pretty much sum up the Race Palace. This place is basically for the hard core gambling freak; all with their«systems» and they all apparently spend a lot of time there. There is a bar area where you can get a drink which was manned by probably the worst set of help ever. The three girls back there just stood at one end and looked totally confused about what to do. There are windows to bet and machines to bet and little booths to sit at and bet– so this is the place to be if you have too much money and want to lose it betting. We watched the race and got the hell out of there. Parking front and rear.

So I don’t know if I’m reviewing the right thing(which is a first for me) considering, my company and I went to the restaurant WITHIN this establishment. Anywho, the ambiance of this place is very nice and laid-back. The music is low so you can carry a conversation without shouting. There are TVs EVERYWHERE. There is also a huge bar before you enter the sit-down portion of the restaurant. The menu is small but has something for every one. I got the salmon and it was lovely, the rice on the side was even better. They allowed us to be as loud and rowdy as we wanted to be(something my coworkers are known for). The reason for 3 stars? Slow service. We ordered around 2:15 and the food did not arrive till 3:10. Nearly an hour for very basic dishes. The wait staff is nice and great and helpful, but the food takes much too long to arrive. I’ll go back the next time I’m not on a lunch break from work.

The Race Palace in Plainview, LI, NY is the Nassau County OTB’s entry into the arena of upscale wagering and dining, designed to have a Las Vegas like feel to it. The actual layout of the place is standard teletheatre, with 2 very large screens and a number of smaller screens on a giant wall, the base of which is the betting windows. Unfortunately, many of these windows are often not open, which is a mystery because there seem top be plenty of staff around. The food is standard pub fare, neither excellent nor distasteful, simply there as subsistence. The waitress service was poor as we waited a long time for her arrival on the scene, along time for the food, and we were unable to get a refill or re-order on the drinks because once the food was served we never saw the waitress again, someone else came and took the plates away eventually. The fact of the matter is if you want a «casino» like experience, get in the car and head for Mohegan or Foxwoods, the service is worlds better and you will get far, far, far more bang for your buck!
