This is a wonderful example of a Thai restaurant. The food was cooked to perfection and, also not too spicy, as we requested. The service was outstanding and there is an outdoor area as well as an air-conditioned interior. The presentation of the food was delightful, very professional. The kitchen has gone to great lengths to make this a memorable experience. The prices were moderate and especially reasonable considering the quality. We would definitely come back.

Amazing Thai food! Haven’t been disappointed in the past 10 visits. Try the Thai Blossom wine or Singha beer too.

We all kept stealing stuff off each others’ plates. Everything was delicious. Had mango chicken, sweet and sour chicken, noodle soup and beef satay. Fresh-tasting. Nicely spiced. Comfortable environment.

What a great spot. Everything we ordered came out perfectly. For appetizers we had the calamari, veggie spring rolls, and crab rangoon. I loved my order of mango chicken curry and our table shared the special mango and pineapple fried rice. Service was excellent and all of us enjoyed our dinner.

This low key Thai restaurant in Plainville is modest and serves its purpose, serving you tasty food with great service. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The food was good and there were no complaints from anyone in my party of 8. I only gave it 3 stars because I am a sucker for decent décor and an inviting appeal. Sweet Basil could use a sprucing up. If you could care less about how the joint looks, go ahead and enjoy some delicious Thai food.

Excellent food. Service was great on a Friday night. Other reviewers have mentioned lack of spice, but we didn’t find this to be the case. Just the right amount while retaining true flavor. The do not have a children’s menu but by toddler was thrilled with the garlic broccoli appetizer. The Thai iced tea is also fantastic.

Thai is one of my favorite cuisines so I’m a stickler for good quality Thai food. Their food is fresh, made to order and straight up delicious. I’ve easily eaten here 3 times in a week(no shame!) It’s a great lunch or after work spot to meet with colleagues. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and ambiance is casual. Of all the restaurants in this area, this one if definitely top 5.

Not a fan. The chicken used in my dish was reminiscent of poor quality Chinese«chicken.» Ate the rice around the chicken and spring rolls. If better quality meat I perhaps would return. Otherwise, no.

This is the most mediocre Thai food I’ve ever had. The green curry wasn’t very spicy(and I specifically asked for very spicy) and lacked curry flavor – the coconut milk overwhelmed everything. That said, the vegetables and chicken were perfectly done. It was edible – I cleaned my bowl – but it won’t be at the top of my list for this area if I’m traveling through again.

I saw the great reviews for Sweet Basil and decided to try it out. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The food did not seem very authentic«Thai.» I know they consider it «fusion» with Asian techniques but I was expecting something more. The Thai iced tea was good, though!

Sweet Basil simply put has some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had! Their pad Thai, pan fried pot stickers, and every thing else I’ve had there has been top notch, and the prices aren’t too bad, either! The décor inside is pretty basic for a Thai place, and the waitresses were all very nice and helpful. Nestled in a somewhat nondescript location near the Plainville/Southington line, Sweet Basil should make your list of Thai restaurants to visit in the Central Connecticut area!

Been here a few times and it’s always great. Normally I’m a curry guy, but I wanted to give the Pad Thai a shot and boy was it a surprise! The Pad Thai was out if this world! I’ve had it at the place down the street plenty of times and it was«meh» at best. This dish gave me a new respect for good Pad Thai. Will definitely keep trying new dishes and see how they compare.

For Thai, this place is, well, I’ll say acceptable. Suitable. I wasn’t wowed, but it was, as 3 stars denotes, A-OK. I came alone for lunch one day, and they were fairly busy. It took a server a while to come over to take my order. The food also seemed to take a while to come out even after a lot of the tables had left, especially considering it was only one plate. The Thai garlic stirfry was served in a generous portion. The vegetables in the dish were nicely julienned, the sauce coverage was perfect, and the flavor was very mild but tasted good. While the appearance of the Thai iced tea was offputting(rather than the bright orange I’m used to, it was very muddy in color), it actually tasted great. My experience here was okay, but definitely not my first choice in the area for Thai.

I have been to Sweet Basil at least 5 times by now, and every time I have went, they never disappoint. As most reviews have stated the décor is minimal and the building looks like it may have been a fast food place in the past. But since extravagant décor doesn’t exactly make a difference to me, I am fine with how the place looks. Each time I have entered, there has been a waitress that greets us and directs us to a table, or, lets us choose is there is no one around! From the food we have ordered there, the rock shrimp and crispy calamari are always a hit and I recommend trying both. For entrees I have always enjoyed there Drunken noodles, and Curry dishes. If you are a fan of spicy the Mango Shrimp dish is fantastic, its presentation is beautiful and tastes flavorful. While i always enjoy spoiling myself with a thai ice tea when i visit, they do have a variety of alcohol you can choose from. This place is a little hidden gem in Plainville, I’ll definitely continue my business as long as it keeps up its great service and food!

Came here for a belated Mother’s Day meal and had a very enjoyable time and a pretty good meal. We arrived on the early side of dinner and as there were only a couple of other diners in the restaurant, we were seated quickly by a very pleasant and accommodating server. The décor is minimal and clean — with a good quantity of booths and tables as well as some outdoor seating. The ambiance was on the dim side — mostly due to the color of the walls and ceiling, which was brown. The menu at Sweet Basil is nothing out of the ordinary — your standard Thai dishes including many of the standard noodle, curry, soup and curry dishes that I have seen in many Thai restaurants. However, just because the menu boasted many«go to» Thai dishes, my dining companions and I enjoyed our meals. I ordered one of the Chef’s selections — a seafood dish — and it was fresh and flavorful served with a side of Jasmine rice. I just wish that it was beefed up with some more vegetables and a bit more sauce was added to the dish. The price was a bit steep for the quantity of food I received(about $ 18) but seafood quality was top notch. I also ordered a side of seaweed salad — not something I have normally seen in the Thai restaurants I have dined at — but it was a nice change, although the fact that it was served on a bed of mixed greens confused me. While we were eating our water’s were constantly filled and our server was accommodating to our requests for«no or little spice». The restaurant also serves beer and wine, if you are so inclined. The location has been many incarnations over the years and I hope this restaurant sticks. Although I would not go out of my way to come back — if I was in the area it would definitely be a place that I would come to again.

Went for lunch on a whim one day and was very surprised at the great taste!!! I ordered the chicken pad Thai and it was spicer than I had anticipated, which made me like it even more. Going for lunch yielded me leftovers because my portion was so huge. It was a great surprise and a great treat for lunch! I hope this place stays!

Went to Sweet Basil for dinner this evening with my wife — we both weren’t sure what to expect even after reading reviews on Unilocal and elsewhere. First and foremost the interior design /décor is very plain & simple. We have eaten inside of this building when it was other restaurants and this atmosphere is the plainest of them all. But that’s where any similarities end. My wife had their Drunken Noodles with chicken and I opted for one of their evening specials, Hot Pot Deluxe. She has had this dish at other Thai restaurants and said that it was one of the best that she has ever had. My Hot Pot Deluxe was a combination of seafood, pork and chicken in a zesty broth served in a flaming crock. The flavor profiles were intense and every piece of meat contained within was cooked perfectly. Our waitress was young and very polite, the ambience was quiet and reserved… Perfect for having a conversation with someone across from you without yelling or straining to hear. Please give this restaurant a try — you won’t be disappointed.

After reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant to try this place, however I was very pleased with it. I started with the Tom Yam soup which was filled with veggies and a kick of spice. The portion size was what you would receive in most Thai restaurant in the area. My soup came with veggies and tofu, you can get chicken, shrimp or beef in this soup too. For my main entrée I tried the green curry with tofu and veggies. The size and cost was comparable to other places. I felt the green curry had a nice spice to it, if you like really spicy I’d suggest getting an increase on that. The veggies were all fresh and cut into enjoyable sizes. This restaurant is relatively new so they are waiting on their liquor license, so BYOB for now! There is plenty of parking and the dinning room is on the larger size for a Thai restaurant. Their take out service was consistent while there weren’t too many people in the restaurant for a Monday night.

Sweet Basil is a small Thai restaurant with a very limited menu. I visited for lunch and had the Massaman Curry Chicken lunch special. The lunch box came with a small salad, a spring roll and rice. The food came out quickly and while certainly not the best Thai food I have had, was satisfactory. The lunch menu is very reasonably priced. My server was polite and courteous. I would return for lunch but the menu was too limited for a dinner visit.

I was so excited to try this place out but I left disappointed. I was under the impression that this was a Thai restaurant because the sign on the outside said«Thai food». The restaurant owners seem to be Chinese and well the food tastes more Chinese than Thai. I ordered the lunch special which comes as a bento box. Each special runs at approximately $ 10. All I can say is heh but it could be because they are new. The pad seuw lacked flavor but did have nice coloring. My panang curry looked like yellow curry. I feel like the food lacked all the essential Thai ingredients, it didn’t smell Thai and didn’t taste Thai. When I crave Thai food I look for some spice. I hate to be harsh but the cooks have to head back to Thailand and take a few more lessons. The eggroll was definitely not Thai! It tasted like an eggroll from the a Chinese takeout place bc it was filled with things not typically Thai. The service was okay, nothing impressive. The restaurant had a weird smell to it. Not sure if it’s the paint. I guess given the area it’s okay for Thai fusion but I probably won’t be back. The execution wasn’t well done.
