Valentine’s Day weekend, we walked in with no reservations and were well accommodated with exactly what we were looking for– a nice tucked away corner half booth half table. Service was pretty prompt and food was good. Wasn’t impressed by the spinach artichoke dip(stringy spinach — whole leaf) needed to be more chopped up… but flavor was good. Salads were great, and our meals were very good. For a bar-ish type restaurant steak tips and veggies with mashed potato were excellent and with a good and fair price. The live music at 8:30/9 was a nice added touch. Would definitely return!

Large restaurant/bar. I’ve only been a couple of times and always just for drinks and appetizers. I love the pretzel appetizer! I’m a pretzel addict and theirs are some of the best around. They’re served with a great spicy mustard and cheese sauce. When we went this past weekend in the early afternoon, we didn’t see them on the menu, so I asked our server. Apparently they’re only on the dinner menu, but they made them for us anyway. We also tried the corned beef and cabbage egg rolls, which were also tasty. The prices are a big high but the portions are large. I’ve seen the meals delivered to other tables and they look good, but I think this might be the type of place where I just eat apps. They also have a very large draft beer selection. Good place to hang out with friends!

We went on a not so busy night. We sat at the bar. About 5 minutes later we were given menus. There were 3 people manning the bar. Looks like they had a bunch of options on tap. Looks like the had some fun options on the food menu. Unfortunately we will never know how any of the beer or food tasted. We sat for 25 minutes and not a single bar tender came up to us to take our order. We left. They stole 30 minutes of my life.

Great service and food! Going into an Irish pub, I know better than to expect tons of vegetarian options, but there were enough that I had choice.

My return visit was much more pleasant than my first. About the same number of parties so it is pretty quiet during lunch. Service was prompt and I was able to fit my meal into my lunch hour this time. Had the Buffalo Mac & cheese to see what it was like. I would have preferred the sauce be thicker but it did have an acceptable level of bite for your average customer. I stand beside most of my previous review. Nice décor, decent food but overpriced. Service seems to be hit or miss depending on who is working so budget extra time, you might need it.

What a great location. Not to crowded and great service. The beer list was awesome and the food was even better. We had a chicken and Bree sandwich and a Reuben. The food was out quickly and packed with flavor. I would suggest the shoe string onion rings as a side. They had great flavor. We will be making this a regular spot.

Forever Boycotting this poor excuse of an establishment. I could have shot myself and cleaned up the mess before any service or acknowledgement was given. Which by the way we never even got a chance to complain about before leaving.

Food is decent, if overpriced. Chili in to go order had a one inch thick plug of melted cheese on top of the continer. Ordered based on on-line menu and glad we checked at pickup since MENUITEMSAREFALSELYLABELEDGLUTENFREE. In particular the lamb shepards pie Contains gluten. Management was responsive and offered gift cards(reason for 1 star) but still an allergen hazard. 5Bangers and mash is 3 breakfast links cut in half with ~1.5 cups of mashed potatoes and a tablespoon of grilled onions.

I’ve been to Waxy’s a few times now, and it’s been pretty run-of-the-mill, which is unfortunate because the place is set up to be so much more than that. The décor inside is probably one of my favorites in the Central Connecticut region — filled with all things Irish without coming off as hokey or over-the-top. Lots of dark woods and comfortable seats make for a great initial feel, especially if you visit when it’s not packed to the gills with people on a Friday night. Speaking of, a group of friends and I made the mistake of going on a very crowded night with a live band playing. We got stuck sitting next to the stage with the speakers absolutely blaring, loud enough that it was almost impossible to talk to each other without shouting. The food that I’ve ordered has all been pretty good, particularly their«craic» balls(Get it? Because they’re as addicting as crack?) which are Cajun spice-dusted mashed potato croquettes filled with bacon and cheese served with a Guinness mustard. I’d be content just ordering that with a few beers and call it a day! Their bangers and mash was decent, although the sausages were on the small side(that’s what she said!), close to the size of a breakfast sausage instead of the larger brat-sized sausages I was hoping for. I see a lot of negative comments about the service; I didn’t personally run into any poor service at all, but the time I went for lunch I sat at the bar with the bartender right there making service pretty easy. The time I went on the crowded night I guess my group got lucky because we had a friend as our server so there was no way she was forgetting about us. Overall, I’d definitely go back again around lunch or early dinner time, but I’d probably stay away from Friday nights, especially when live music is playing.

This place is horrible. We ordered 2 waters, a beer and told the waitress we needed a couple minutes to decide. After sitting there for 25 minutes, she never came over and took our order. Put $ 6 down for beer and got up and left. This place is a disgrace and should be shut down. And anyone who calls themselves a good server who works here, should rethink their job.

I’ve been here many times and always have had great food and drinks! I recommend this place to alot of people and they feel the same. Nice addition to plainville! The nachos with chili are to die for!!! And the sirloin tips are great! Can’t get enough of their spicy pineapple martinis

This was a very nice bar/restaurant. Great choices for craft beers. Very friendly workers. Food was pretty salty but the beers helped.

A very poor pour! For the most part everything was very good. Nice, comfortable ambiance. Friendly and attentive waitress. Good food(I had a Reuben and it was great). And a very extensive beer list. But… The beer list provides a long list of great beers, the alcohol content, the price, and the amount of the pour. The amount of pour varied but they were typically stated as 16 oz. Some were only 12 and some were 20. So I ordered a Stone Saison and it came in a tiny 10 oz glass. Most of my lunch buddies had 12 or 16 oz glasses. At first I didn’t think much about it but one of my friends noted the beer list stated the Stone Saison was to be 16 oz. I highly doubt they were going to charge me less money for the substantially less beer. The bartender resolved the issue when I asked, so all ended well. But we noted a few other beers at our table were well below the published«pour» amounts. Seems like they just grab whatever glass is handy with no regard for the amount they are supposed to pour for each. None of us got a 20 oz beer that was supposed to be less. So Waxy, start pouring the correct amount or beer. Thanks.

Went here on two consecutive days, just because it was that good. On Saturday there was live music(good band too!) the steak tips were exquisite and the baked haddock very tender and flavorful. On Sunday we came back for late lunch and got such a huge plate of great nachos that we didn’t need to order anything else for a family of 3! Our server was very nice on both days and the host was very friendly and courteous as well. Waxy’s is a good addition to the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Plainville. The hotel was missing a dinner restaurant before, they more than made up for that with Waxy’s.

We went out for dinner tonight to celebrate my birthday before my children left for different parts of the U.S. My husband’s been wanting to try Waxy O’Connors since it opened, so we went there. The atmosphere was pleasant, and attractive but the lighting needs to be brighter or there should be more of it. Being a Tuesday night the restaurant was not crowded. We were seated in a small section next to a large party. When our waiter came over, we knew what we wanted so we ordered our beverages and entrees at the same time. Our drinks came in a relatively reasonable amount of time. Our food, not so much. After an hour I complained to the hostess who went to get her manager. Surprise! Our food immediately arrived; the manager never did. Neither the food, nor the plates were hot which led us to believe the food had been ready for a while, but just sitting there. The food was okay, but nothing amazing that was worth waiting an hour for. The service was non-existent. After bringing our beverages, our waiter never came to our table again until after I complained, meanwhile in that same hour he attended to the large party at least half a dozen times. We will not be going back!

I came here on fathers day this year with of course my father. We tried JTims but it was packed of course. So we decided to give this place a try. The good thing is this place is that is big and has good parking. But that is about it. We got in and ordered drinks… then waited… and waited. It is a big bar that 6 people at it besides us. We finally ordered food then waited… waited.waited. This place was empty at 3:30pm on fathers day. Our bartender never came back and checked in. Seeing if we needed more drinks while we waited around a half and hour for wings in an empty restaurant. She honestly could have gotten two more drinks out of each during the time we were there. For the food I got the buffalo wings and father got the sticky asian wings. Both wings were good. 8 huge wings for $ 11. I am also order fries with gravey and onions. Felt like trying something different. I was pissed the second they put them infront of me. There was barely any gravey and onions. So I basically paid $ 7 with fries. My friends come on Wednesdays for trivia here and been trying to get me to go. I will pass. Much better places in be in Plainville

Great addition to the Plainville community. I love the atmosphere, live music and trivia night. The staff is very friendly and awesome beer selection. We brought many friends here and everyone loves it and keeps coming back. We are regulars here.

I would say that this is standard pub food with random dishes in the lunch menu. It’s an Irish bar so there are your usual stews, soda bread, Reuben’s, but then I saw tikka masala and yellowfin tuna. Very interesting choices for an Irish bar. I ordered chicken caprese panini and my dad ordered beef stew and my mother the Waxy burger. My panini was good but lacked flavor. The pesto could have been more flavorful. My moms burger was good and my dad loved the stew. We also had wings which were fine. I don’t think this food was something to rave about. I think the best word to sum up their food is «ok» same with service. Not good, not bad just«ok» The place itself is gorgeous. I love the dark wood and décor. It’s a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be and very clean. However the décor and ok food isn’t enough for me to come back!

This place was ok. We went here for my sister in laws birthday and while the interior is nice and the drinks and food decent… the service is very poor. Not because they are rude or anything… it is just too big of a place and not enough workers. Often times we would order drinks and they would take forever to get or they would not come at all or we would get the wrong drinks. Now on to the good things: I loved the soft pretzel app with beer cheese… REALLY good and their wings are tasty and very meaty. I also thought their French onion soup was delish. The live music is a total plus as well… and there is room to dance and act crazy. I will be back to give it another try and possibly up the stars,

I stopped in here with a friend on a Tuesday evening a couple of weeks ago so naturally it was a quiet night. We each ordered one of their specialty drinks which were both very good. For dinner I ordered the lamb shepherd’s pie which was a lot of food and good enough for me to want to take the leftovers home. After dinner we sat and chatted for a while and both of us were still slowly picking at our food and this seemed to bother the servers. They stopped by multiple times to ask if we wanted our food wrapped up, but neither of us did because we were still eating it slowly while we talked. Eventually, someone came up who appeared to be a manager, and insisted that she wrap our food for us since it was just sitting there«in our way». I’m not sure that I understand why they were so pushy, but it was kind of a bizarre moment. Overall, I stuck with three stars because the food and drink were both«A-OK». I’m not sure if I would be back for anything more than drinks though.
