Do not bother coming here right when they open(i.e. at 11am). Three times now I have gotten to this restaurant right after they have opened and have found the buffet next to empty — no sushi, no entrees, etc. The excuse all three times has been that«they are putting everything out». Um no, if you open at 11am, that means you are open for business and should be ready to serve when the doors open. That means all of your food items should be stocked out ready to go. The fact that I’ve continued giving this place the benefit of the doubt after seeing the same thing on two previous occasions speaks to how much I *used* to like going here. After this most recent visit(i.e. the third time) and finding the buffet empty yet again, I will not be returning. For that I give it a low rating. When everything is actually available, they generally have good food that is worth a try. However, I would suggest not getting here before noon and if not for their stocking issue, I would rate this as a 3 – 4 star place.

Sushi was amazing. It was fresh and not chewy like some places that let it sit out to long. Every dish I got was soo good. Except for the lomein. It wasn’t bad it’s just not the kind I like. They had a very good seafood selection, unlike most places because there so stingy. Highly highly recommend.

Wow, by far this is my favorite Chinese buffet. And I have been to plenty with my family ever since I was a little kid. First off, the price is $ 11.99 for dinner and it is practically the same, if not a little cheaper, than most of the Chinese buffets I’ve been to. But what makes this place great is the SUSHI&SEAFOOD! This place contains my top 2 favorite foods: sashimi and crawfish. Anyone who knows me well will know that I am essentially a cat when it comes to sushi — I eat so much raw fish. This place has great salmon and yellowtail sashimi considering that it’s a buffet, I literally load up half my plate with the sashimi EVERY time I go back up for another round(I seriously get my money’s worth after my first plate). Additionally, they have unagi(eel) AND octopus nigiri(the meat over a bed of rice) along with the other common nigiri like salmon and shrimp. Furthermore, they have a good variety of sushi rolls, and one specifically I remember that is similar to the typical Alaskan roll you’ll see at sushi restaurants(the one with raw salmon on top with avocado and crab meat). There’s also some spicy tuna rolls, but personally, I love the sashimi and unagi too much that I didn’t even glaze over the sushi rolls. They have a seaweed salad and also a cold shrimp/scallop salad. Honestly, I may start coming here more often than other Japanese buffets like Tokyo One or Japan House in order to get a quick sushi fix. Their crawfish isn’t anything exceptional(similar like every Chinese buffet), but they do replace it often. No seasoning, and you do get occasional bad ones. But I’m a fan of crawfish enough that it doesn’t bother me too much. They have clams, mussels, soft shell crabs(not the king’s crab legs though, unfortunately), and calamari(this is only served during lunch though, I believe). Aside from the sushi/seafood, they do have Chinese food such as beef broccoli and fried rice. This place even has Korean BBQ too! It has to be hot to have that mouth-watering taste, but I was very surprised to find this at a buffet that wasn’t Korean. Furthermore, they have soups, Vietnamese spring rolls, and your other typical Chinese buffet food(ribs, pizza, fries, ice cream machine, etc.) Overall, this is a place I will be returning to often. Great service too; my plates were picked up by the time I returned every time I got up to get another round. You will be leaving this place with a food baby and with your belt buckle undone!

This is now my favorite family Chinese buffet. The food was great. Clean restaurant with friendly wait staff. If you love sushi then this is the place for you. They offer a wide variety of sushi rolls, sashimi and a great shrimp and calamari salad(it’s a bit spicy). Although I live 45 minutes away, I will definitely return. And thanks to my waiter, Michael for taking the extra steps to make sure we had a great first time experience there.

If you are a sushi lover(mainly rolls), this will be heaven to you. On a weekday, lunch is only $ 10 per person all you can eat! Great selections of sushi, along with other sides like beef broccoli, Vietnamese spring rolls, hot and spicy sour soup, fried rice, and more. Not so much to choose from on the dessert side though. When I’m hungry for rolls, this is the place that I’ll go!

Nice selection of sushi but otherwise very mediocre. Few vegetarian options. Pretty standard Chinese greasy buffet.

Reasonable selections for $ 11 dinner. Wish they had a Mongolian grill or crab legs; however they do have salted fried crabs.

This buffet place has become my family’s Chinese buffet of choice in the Plano area. The major reason is that In addition to typical Chinese items, they have a much wider selection of sushi than other restaurants(see the pictures I took). They carry not only typical sushi rolls, but also some of my favorites, such as eel and octopus sushi, which you don’t see in many Chinese buffet places. Also, there is sashimi, like salmon and snapper. And I have to say they are all quite fresh and delicious. The service is typically Chinese. Other than picking up your empty plates, the waitress/waiter pretty much leaves you alone to enjoy your food. So, if you like Chinese food and also Japanese sushi and you don’t want to go to a fancy sushi place, this is your choice.

Overall pretty decent buffet. If it wasn’t for the sushi I probably would have given it 2 stars. The sushi and shasimi was the best I’ve ever had at a buffet, the rest of the food was pretty average.

Okay, I have to write a follow up review– I have visited my beloved A-Star buffet around 3 – 4 times since my last review. I’d like to apologize because in my last review I wrote the green tea ice cream was amazing, but I made a mistake and confused this buffet with a different one. A Star only serves soft serve ice cream with vanilla, chocolate, and swirl. The sashimi, which is what I basically loved(and the main reason I come here) has been almost frozen the last 2 times I went. I thought it was a fluke but I visited last night again and there it was, almost frozen salmon and tuna sashimi just sitting out on the plate. The sushi rolls have more rice in them now(understandable but still kind of disappointing). Loved the softshell crab. It was so fresh and wonderfully seasoned, but I tend to like salty things. I also noted that even though it’s not crawfish season, they still serve crawfish. It wasn’t the best but wasn’t bad. The Korean BBQ short ribs are pretty good. The only thing is, if you get them and they aren’t fresh or hot enough they kind of taste a bit tougher. I still stand by my hot doughnuts, they are amazing and they taste really great with the vanilla ice cream. All in all, for the price it’s still a wonderful bargain. I just felt like my favorite thing(sashimi) was disappointing. It’s hard to eat sashimi when it’s almost frozen. I’ll be back, in hopes that the last few times were flukes.

Love this place! But people who come here expecting gourmet will be disappointed. You get lots of variety and the food is pretty good for the cheap price! I come here about once a month and the staff is always friendly.

My friend and I came here for the buffet to go(not my pick)… I thought the food looked sketchy but I grabbed some things that seemed safe enough… my friend was more adventurous and had some sushi… when she got to the register she found out that they charge by the piece for that… that information would have been helpful if it was disclosed when we were given our to go boxes because the prices were not great… especially for low quality food My food was pretty terrible but I kind of expected that… this place probably does well with old white people who voted for Mitt Romney, wear dungarees and think all asian(or as they would say, oriental) people are chinese

We were driving by and I saw the sign saying seafood and sushi buffet and thought it sounded good. My wife and I usually don’t ever just stop randomly at places we’ve never heard of but it was just a pleasant surprise to find this place. It was super affordable. I think it was just under $ 12 per person for the dinner buffet. They had everything from fresh crawfish to salmon sashimi, to garden salads to sushi rolls and clams. There was so much to choose from that I felt like I got full before I even made it to all the different sections. We will definitely be back very soon. I was impressed with the service, the freshness of the food, the prices and how clean everything was.

Fresh rolls, juicy chicken, perfectly cooked noodles, seafood that reminds you of the ocean, and even dessert that has you wanting more. Too bad«A Star» gets all those foods and saves them for the next day where they microwave reheat the food and serve it to you as their best… Atleast that’s what it seems like. Tough chicken, old vegetables, and baked cold that can either break a tooth or leave the taste of fake butter in your mouth for hours. I left with major disappointment and my girlfriend with a stomach ache requiring her to lay all the way back on the car ride as to not spew on fellow patron driving along side on I-75, and no, we didn’t over eat. How anyone says this place is so good is beyond me, I saw nothing but fake crab meat and tasted cold calimari. I actually logged in for the first time in over a year just to review this place. But hey, if you’re into looks over quality… I guess this place looks nice and pretty like the pictures suggest. Unapologetically, A dissatisfied Chinese buffeter… and his color changing nauseous Girlfriend.

Visited this place about 6 months back, but didn’t write a review at the time. I must say the food quality has improved quite a bit since then. I’ve been to a fair share of Chinese buffets, and this place is better than many others in the Dallas area. There are sashimi and sushi rolls on the dinner buffet; these aren’t 5 star quality, but good enough for the value($ 12/adult dinner). Good variety of appetizers, entrée, and dessert on the buffet. Food was fresh and refilled diligently when visited around 6:00pm. My soda was constantly refilled and the waitress spoke English well. The restaurant and the restrooms were clean and well-stocked. Bottom Line: Food quality is good for a Dallas-area buffet. The place is clean and the service is friendly and efficient. Would revisit!

I’ve been to many Asian buffets but this one by far is one of the best for the money. $ 12 dinner for good all you can eat crawfish, crab and sushi.

This was by far the worst buffet I have ever been o. I made this account to write this review. I have no idea how this place has such positive reviews. Unilocal has never led me astray before. I want to start by saying that I’m not a picky eater. I always clean my plate whenever I go out to a restaurant. .but that being said. .this place was disgusting. I couldn’t finish anything i picked up. The sushi was basically just balls of rice. .they really skimp on the fish. On top of that there was only like 5 different rolls. The other Chinese food served here was among the worst and most greasy i have ever laid eyes on. The service was subpar. Do not come here. Save your money and go elsewhere. I left hungry.

Wanted to check out the Asian buffet at A Star Buffet. Place is clean and spacious. Buffet is reasonably priced. Lunch is $ 8.99 and dinner is $ 11.49. You can also do take out. Service was good in keeping empty plates cleared from the table and my drink full without having to be asked. Buffet has several lines. There are approximately 36 different entrées to choose from. Not too much out of the ordinary. A choice of 4 soups. 18 – 20 different types of sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi as well. There is also a dessert bar that has 10 – 12 sweets to choose from. Food was good, but nothing was outstanding. Good to see they actually had a kitchen employee out monitoring the line the entire time I was there to make sure things were fresh and full(very commendable). As noted earlier, very reasonably priced and the food is pretty decent, but just far enough away for me that I probably would not go out of my way to eat there again unless I had business in that part of town.

Always wanting to find the next great Asian buffet… our selection up here in the north is practically nonexistent. So Unilocal brought me here. 12 miles from home here in Plano :-\ come on McKinney, we can’t raise the bar? On to the food… as Asian buffet joints go, this is refreshing. Fresh food being delivered to the buffet line every minute. Amazing sushi selection and tasty. The cold octopus salad was good and just right with a splash of Tabasco ;-) Usual fanfare on the buffet, but fresh and pretty damn good. The sugared donuts and ice cream provided sweet relief after a long meal. Worth the return trip…

Large, elegant dining room. Big selection of food from pizza and nuggets for kids, a big variety of hot dishes you find at most buffets to crawfish, sushi and even sashimi. The sushi and sashimi was actually of pretty decent quality and so was most of the other food. Service was good and for a dinner price of $ 11.49 for adults this is an excellent value.
