Carpenter Park Recreation Center

I am waiting to give it 5 stars when the pool that was approved in a bond election is put in. Otherwise since the remodeling its a great bargain. Lots and lots of activity there all day every day. After school basketball games for kids, racket ball, squash and pickle ball for adults. Gymnastics, martial arts, Jazzercise and painting are other activities. Ten laps to the mile on the walkway overlooking the gym. Here is video tour of the facility by the City of Plano;

I have been comming to this rec center for Iyengar Yoga class and have truely enjoyed the class. The instrutor is very sincere and an excellent teacher. The class has been a Life saver with my severe arthritis. However, I was told recently that the rec center had decided to discontinue the class as the instructor asked for clean room (Not an unreasonable request with us lying down on yoga mats). Many students have reached out to the staff and escalated to continue the class, but all we get back is some flimsy excuse on how the props occupy space etc. I am very disappointed with the management response to all of us inspite of the 2 classes being full all the time.

I am very happy with this rec center. It is clean and there are a lot of things to do with a lot of room. (4 basketball courts, 8 racketball/​volleyball courts, indoor track, classrooms, weight room area, cardio equipment, outdoor soccer courts etc.) The only negative I can note is that the lockers sometimes don’t work, but overall I am happy with this place.

Pros:
I have taken my daughter to several ballet classes. Her teacher has been Jennifer Russell & she is great with the kids, very patient and really takes her time with each of the little ones. I have taken my daughter to other ballet classes where they either seem to be to hectic or way to strict. Ms. Russell strikes a great balance, she seems to create a fun and calming atmosphere where the kids can learn and enjoy themselves without getting overwhelmed.
The gym on the first floor is very clean, well maintained and not very busy during the day. It also seemed to have a staff member there ready to assist in anyway they could.
Cons:
The classrooms are not always cleaned and/​or set up properly for the next class by staff members. For instance, a sewing class was held in the kids dance room and left needles on the window seal. Unfortunately, one of the little toddlers got one stuck in her tutu and picked up another. Luckily a parent caught it in time before she was hurt.
My daughter has taken several different educational classes here, where the teachers seem to be disorganized, loud and oblivious to the students. The teachers running the other classes have been found to be wanting.

Been coming here since I was a middle schooler! I used to play basketball and pingpong then but now I’ve been frequenting the cardio/​weight room. Plenty treadmills, ellipticals, cycling equipment. Also they have free lockers where you can store your belongings.
Monthly charges are $ 19 — if you’re a college student/​grad student back in Plano during the holidays, I would suggest coming here to keep in shape. It’s cheaper than 24 Hr Fitness/​Lifetime Fitness and the facilities are clean and up to date.

Fabulous for kids and adults! This facility offers indoor court sports, table games, fitness equipment, and an indoor track for all-​weather fun. Top-​notch staff run a tight ship. Well worth the membership.

recently renovated recreation center in Plano. The facilities are very good and the expansion has seen a new area for Cardio and Weights. This is the only place in Plano for Squash Players (unless you want to shell out $ 80/​month for Lifetime Fitness.

The facility is great and very clean. There are 2 basketball court and a game room. They have may racquetball rooms and a track upstairs. They do not have a pool and the counter does not give you change! I recommend Tom muehlenback center. It is even better and is relatively close to carpenter!

This was the first rec center I discovered in Plano, but due to construction, I had to switch over to other rec centers. It finally reopened a couple months back and I’ve been trying to come here once a week. I noticed that they made a few changes, but not very much… not really quite sure what they did that they had to close this place for such a long time. But anywho, it’s back in business!
I like the cardio room because the walls are all window — makes it so much brighter and it makes you feel happier to work out. (if I was staring at a concrete wall with no sunlight, I’d be pretty disappointed working out). Some of the cardio machines have personal tv’s but they also have tv’s for everyone else to watch. To the left you’ll see the weight equipment — I like the ab machines but not really a fan of using the dumbbells — hehe I look awkward using them. There’s also a small area with mats for stretching with a huge mirror… why do they have mirrors in the weight room? I always wondered that~
They have two basketball courts and when you go upstairs, they have an indoor (small) track. After a good cardio workout, I like to go upstairs and walk a few laps to cool myself down. It’s never busy/​crowded so you feel relaxed when walking/​jogging on the track. I also noticed they offer classes here too. They have quite a few meeting rooms and I’ve noticed adult classes and kids classes. They have a catalogue at the front desk and you can search their online catalogue for various classes such as cooking, yoga, swimming, etc. They also have classes that teach you how to create a will, how to invest your money, cooking/​cupcake decorating, and so many more that would be hard to find on your own. I highly recommend checking them out — they’re all pretty affordable and the exercises classes are great!
