Another installment of «2 White Guys Out On The Town…» This week’s installment – Persian! On the solid advice of a Fantastic Fellow Unilocaler(shout out), let’s just call her… how about the name of the cuisine? So, «Persia» we’ll say, sent me and my fellow food-appreciating-buddy here armed with all the right things to ask for and what to watch for. After the odyssey it took going from Deep Ellum allllll – (inhale) – lllllllll the way up to Plano, we pulled into the busy northwest corner of Spring Creek and Coit to find King Kabob tucked into many other store fronts. It is a small-ish place which was about half full on a Saturday night and we got a great booth with a good view of the place. Cozy setting with tasteful décor and would be a fine spot for a nice date. By the time we left, it had filled up with more patrons, by the way. Our server was very kind and remained attentive for our whole trip, even though a large group of about 3 couples of older people came in(their own wine bottles in tow since King is a BYOB), and she had her hands full with them as well. Anyway, we get very excited at places like this and tend to just machine-gun rattle off order after order of various things. Immediately got the Badamjan(which did remind me of baba ghanoush, eggplant mashed w/a bit of a smoky flavor), the cucumber yogurt(thanks to Persia’s coaching, I was all ready to ask for Mast-of-khiar, the real name of this dish, but on their menu it just said«cucumber yogurt», so I didn’t want to be a show-off), plus of course hummus. Wow – all of them were fantastic. For mains we got, on the advice of our server, the«Barg of lamb kabob» and the«Soltani» which is a combo of sirloin kebab and ground beef kabob. All was on a delicious bed of basmati-style rice, light and fluffy and fragrant. We wolfed all of this down without shame and ended up adding an order of Cornish Chicken Kebab and it may have been the best item we had all night. Even though we were getting pretty full, we scavenged every bit of chicken from the bones and left a wasteland of devastation on the plate! I really wanted the $ 4.95 coffee but really was just too full to have even that, so I missed out there. The entrees were between $ 12 and $ 20 each and one of them could be enough for two people to share, in my opinion, although what you want is variety. The apps were around $ 4 – 5 each. All of it well worth the dinero! On our way out, I stopped at the table full of the 3 couples and said that they appeared to be Regulars here, what did I miss? They were all exuberant about the place and shouted out several of the dishes we had gotten, so felt pretty good about our picks. Worth the trip, South-Of-LBJ’ers!

I love this eatery. it is small but very friendly staff. The food was excellent and traditional. I tried the combination kabob platter with hot tea. I really like this place and will definitely visit again.

Great lamb ever, I took the lamb chops, rice and grilled vegetables was great! The service was good too. The hummus wasn’t all that great but I can live without it

This place was magically delicious! First of all, it has a very unique feel — versus the rest of the Iranian places in the Dallas-area. It’s so cozy and detail-oriented(haha, best way to describe it). Low-lighting with warm, rich colors. It’s a small place, which actually makes it better! I went with my friend, but it is perfect as a date place! The food was phenomenal. We ordered hummus and kashk bademjan(eggplant) as appetizers and they were great, of course. My main meal was salmon kabob, which came with rice and grilled vegetables(full onions, tomatoes, green bell peppers). It was plenty of food and scrumptious. We had tea after the meal. The total came out to $ 46~ for a drink, 2 appitizers and 2 meals.

The chicken kabob is delish! The chicken breast is cooked perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning. For $ 9.99, you get rice and kabob, I just wished they would include a salad for a complete meal.

Not bad, but not amazing. I started with the dolmeh. Super great! It may just be spinach leaves and rice, but I loved it. I had a lamb kabob with rice for my main dish. The lamb was good, but not extraordinary. It had a good flavor, but was slightly dry. The veggies/rice were great. I’m a sucker for fluffy pita bread, and this was a little too tortilla-like for me. Just personal preference. I also ordered a cream puff for desert, but they forgot to include it in my to go bag. My bad for not checking – I’m sure it would have been tasty. The entire staff was very kind and friendly!

Great little place! Love the small menu, I think that’s why everything tastes fantastic. I have only done take out, that is the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars, the food I receive is not consistent! Sometimes I get more bread or salad or whatever, I like consistency. Try the Greek Salad and add a kabob but ask for dressing on the side, the lamb is always awesome and the rice rocks!

My wife and I have been eating at King Kabob for a couple of years now. The food is wonderful, always fresh and always good! I order the Beef Kabob and my wife orders the vegetarian platter. Consistently the best Persian food in the DFW area we have visited. The waitress is a wonderful person as well. Visit them once and you will keep coming back as we have.

The«Gyros» Sandwich(as they call it) was terrific! The pita bread tasted homemade and the meat was flavorful(and not too salty). The pickles and tangy yogurt cucumber sauce made the perfect combination of flavor. The sandwich is substantial in size and comes with chips for only $ 7.95, making it an exceptional value. The iced tea was freshly brewed. Very nice experience. I will be back to try the kabobs, which are the house specialty.

Great Persian Kabobs… Enjoyed the juicy Cornish hen kabobs, seasoned very well, and the ground beef kabob was tasty as well… Portions very good for the price… Not a fan of their Bademjan appetizer…(They also don’t serve chutney/sauce) Of all the Persian restsurants/kabobs in the metroplex this place and Skewers Kabob House in Addison are the most flavorful… Skewers has 3 chutneys. I’m a chutney fan of you couldn’t tell!

My family and I were driving around Plano looking for something new to try. We saw King Kabob and decided it was worth a try. And oh my goodness! It was delicious. We started with the Hummus appetizer. It came out on a plate with some tortillas to drip. They use lemon juice and olive oil which was new to me. It was very light but very good. It was not over salty or heavy. It was very light and very good. We ordered two entrée’s and liked each differently. We ordered the Shish Kabob(#2) and the Shishlique(Lamb, #6). Both plates came with a large helping of rice. The #2 same with vegetables and the #6 came with the broiled tomato. The beef was very good, it was a little tough to cut, but very easy to chew. The lame… OMG the LAMB… It was the BEST I have ever had. It was full of amazing flavors and it super super tender. It almost melted in my mouth. We will for sure be coming back. All I want is plate full of that delicious lamb! Total for my family: 2 sodas Hummus Beef Lamb About $ 46

The food here is amazing. I’ve had Kooblideh and Chicken Kebab and they are both extremely tasty. The human and pita bread is great too. The rice is seasoned perfectly and everything tastes fresh. Service has only been top notch and me and my wife always bring a bottle of wine with us as it is byob.

The rice is horrible! The staff is rude! And the meat is mediocre, never going back again.

Service: attentive, eager to please, friendly Food: simple, genuine, lightly embellished Décor: delightfully relaxing touches of the Middle East to soothe the senses that don’t get to revel in the simple pleasures of hummus, dolmas, and kebabs.

This place is really more of a 3.5. Cute for all its ethnic décor and the TV that plays music videos of whatever’s trickling out of the speakers. Quite cozy. Lanterns, patterned textiles and the like — it’s a small store, right next to Starbucks. I came here on a whim with a friend of mine and we both got kabob platters. The meat was surprisingly tasty, for having no expectations — not overcooked nor dry, — but the dish came a little short on the amount of rice. Coming from an East Asian background, I always have to control the urge to reject the way other parts of the world cook their rice, but the two components complemented well. In terms of cost, I don’t remember exactly what I paid but I remember thinking that it was an acceptable price for Middle Eastern fare($ 10-$ 15). Our waitress, perhaps the owner of the restaurant, was a gracious lady who occasionally checked in on us to make sure everything was good. Out of curiosity, I ordered this thing called doogh — super sour yogurt drink. WOWITWASSOSOUR. OHMYGOD. Definitely an acquired taste — I was taken aback by the flavor profile. Seemingly innocent, white and milky looking… but then BAM. Even though I was initially shocked, the intense tang became somewhat likeable after a few sips. Overall, a cozy place that will sate any kabob kraving you might have.

A great little family owned restaurant with great food. I have only had the combination platter with chicken and koobideh and I have enjoyed it every time, I highly recommend it. I have had the same waitress every time I have gone, she isn’t very talkative but she is nice and efficient. I am not sure why this place isn’t more popular the food is good especially compared some of the more popular options in the area. If you are a fan of persian/iranian food, don’t miss this one.

I came here a while back, but have been hesitant on returning. The food was pretty good and the décor was great, but the service was lacking. Most middle eastern places I’ve been to usually take a while for food to arrive, but this place took especially long, even when there were only 2 other people in the restaurant. The waiter wasn’t very attentive. I had to go look for him to place my order. He didn’t seem very friendly or helpful either. I’m hoping he was the only mediocre waiter there. It also would be better if he stopped working in the food service industry altogether. I ordered the lamb kebab and it had a great blend of spices, very satisfying. The rice was also cooked really well and not overly buttery.

Came here on a recommendation. Won’t listen to those people again. Meat was way to tough. Spices and flavor were ok. I will not be back.
