Ordered take away for lunch, both Mutton Biriyani and Pepper Chicken were good. For the Biriyani, there was gravy which was nice as well. Wait time was about 20 mts, probably attributable to lunch hour rush.

Thank you for updating the online menu. Giving 3 stars for the mediocre food, but not for the high prices. Forgot to mention it previously, the potato bhaji that comes with the mysore masala is quite less. The small plastic container usually used for chutneys is just not enough for a 8 inch(diameter) dosa, unless u give atleast 2 containers for the take-out orders. glad that it comes with chutneys & sambar. To the owner who messaged me — Yes, it is mediocre food, in my opinion. Everyone is entitled to have one, and you don’t have to agree with me :)

First time ever having Indian food and I’m so glad I chose Kumar’s! Staff was super helpful in choosing food with their recommendations based on your wants and tastes. Tasted excellent to me, will definitely be returning.

This is a small restaurant that has undergone a lot of name changes, the most recent being Kumar’s. We went there on a double date. We ordered one rice dish and three chicken dishes. The food arrived separately and the fourth dish arrived after a very long delay. None of the servers were checking on diners. After our first glass of water, we were left thirsty as nobody was around to fill up our cups. There was someone filling up water cups on the side, but nobody was distributing it. The food was not that impressive. We had reservations, so we didn’t have to wait, but I have heard there are long wait times without reservations. We probably will not be going back.

We waited for 4 min before someone sat us down. The waitress had a bit of an attitude and didn’t apologize or anything. We got the kotthu parata which was out in less than 5 min and was a good 7.5÷10. The idli was not fresh and was microwaved and a little tough. The chutneys were fine. The kaapi was cold… but would have been on point if it was hot. My wife got some juice which was way too earthy. Give over experience 6.5÷10. Need to step up customer service in the front. The waiters were nice otherwise. Willing to give the place a second shot during the day.

Second Review. I keep visiting this place. The taste keeps getting me back to this place. But the arrogance is written all over with how they don’t pay heed to the countless reviews on service here. One of the reviewers aptly summarised it — ‘Headless chickens’. I will keep visiting this place and wil add reviews Ordered a pick up. I was told to come in 15 – 20 minutes. Knowing the service, I went after 90 min. And I wasnt surprised that the did wasn’t ready.

Fantastic food, at a reasonable price. So a couple of my Co-workers and I went here for Friday lunch. It’s busy. There was no wait to be seated, but expect a wait for food.(The person who suggested it recommended reservations on the weekend) We all had non-veg Thali, which is a sampling of various dishes, the assortment changes from day to day but includes fish, goat and chicken and is served with rice, poori, and another bread I don’t know. Since they are pre-selected, you can’t customize, so if your sensitive to heat be forewarned — some dishes are a little spicy. So the assortment today had fish curry(spicy, tasty and perfectly cooked), fried chicken(mild, tender and flavorful), goat curry(absolutely fantastic!), another goat dish(also amazing and perfectly tender), some of the best Dal(a soupy lentil dish) I’ve ever had, chickpeas(like chaat style), spicy pickles and an incredible Laddu to finish. I also got a fresh mango juice. And it was really, really fresh and had a little mango pulp in it. Also great!

I actually tried this place few days back again. Ordered idli sambar and Vada sambar to go. The taste was better than last time and the food tasted fresh. I will still not go because making reservation for eating udipi food makes no sense but I would definitely use them for getting food togo. The owner of Kumars messaged me staring donot perceive udipi food as cheap. I certainly donot perceive udipi as cheap. It is healthy, gluten free and best nutrition however it is very hard to mess with making bad idli and this restaurant has done that once. So here is to the owner sorry but we will never come here again thanks to your arrogance !!

Kumars has opened at same location where ziyafat and shamiana opened and failed. Reason is clear, just the causal, cozy, enclosed ambiance with good movement flow and comfortable seating gets 3 stars . Food is good and Thalis offer you a choice but still a configuration option on thali can work better or an option of a North Indian non veg and veg thali can do wonders . Not every one can mix rasam with yougurt over rice and feel good about it. An additional add on touch is the availability of deserts for purchase in a small pantry style setup next to the cash register . Overall a very good place for a quick nice Indian meal in a nice environment.

A guy visiting from North East to Texas and find that Indian food served on a banana leaf was an absolute bliss. Hence go the good star. So here we go with the quick feedback. We were a party of 7 including 2 kids. We asked for an appointment for Sunday lunch and we got the early bird 12 lot. They did not have anything between 12 and 3 pm. So we went with the 12 lot and we were there when the restaurant was getting for the lunch session. It was jam packed in few minutes for the lunch. The weekend Lunch is the unlimited food served to your table — like the mess style in India. First comes the plate with Banana Leaf and then the traditional serving of Salt, Vathal and Pickels. Then got side order of Shrimp curry and Mutton varuval ordered in. Then Rice, Vadai, Spiced up Butter Milk. For the rice got Mutton Gravy, Chicken Gravy, Fish Gravy, Servings of Vegatable kootu and poriyal. Then finally curd, Sakara pongal to end. The food tasted good but not up to the hype it had. The gravy were okay. I liked the mutton gravy and the presumptous serving of meat in it. Chicken Gravy was okay and fish gravy was barely close to what we used to get back home. The four star is just for the food style and banana leaf. I would have given them 5 star if not for the poor service. There was no second serving for the vegetables and every time we had to wait for 2 reminders to get something served. Some of the guys did a good job in following up but overall team wise –it was poor performance. I ended up not getting the vegetables that I asked for. They were busy and fully packed but they had more than enough people to serve and could have been planned and delivered much better. We were disappointed that they did not have the Kola Urandai for Lunch side dish. I would want to try them. We did order the Jigarthanda and were disappointed. The masala pan are okay but $ 2.00 is too much for it. Overall experience is okay. I might try them once again for week day dinner or so if I am in the area next time.

Being a vegetarian, I was a little apprehensive about visiting Kumar’s but was pleasantly surprised by the vegetarian options that they had to offer. I went on a Saturday with a couple of other friends. We were seated after a 20 minute wait, although we had made a prior reservation(that is one thing they may have to work on — seating people faster). Despite the initially delay, we were taken care of as soon as we were seated. Kumar’s biggest USP is their hospitality. The staff definitely exhibited a sense of urgency in ensuring we did not wait for our food to be served and kept constantly checking on us. I had the vegetarian meal. The veggies — cabbage, kathirikai(eggplant) and keerai(leafy vegetable) were cooked to precision. The kathirikai melted in the mouth, literally. I did not like the rasam much as I felt it had an overdose of garlic, but the murungakai sambar and kozhumbu compensated for it. If you want to indulge in authentic south Indian, homemade-like food Kumar’s is the place.

Excruciatingly slow service. It took one hour to get my vegetable utthapam. We were practically at the restaurant as soon as it opened for dinner. My kids had to wait 45+ minutes for their masala dosas. The restaurant really needs to step up their speed of service. Food was fine, but the lack of prompt service leaves a lot to be desired.

I had the Chicken tandoori, and the spices were well mixed and it was nicely marinated. However it was not half a chicken, maybe it was quail. Service was average.

Wife tackle me down to this place for a Saturday dinner against my wish but end up scoring a touchdown. Food brings people together. I felt like transformed to a formerly British empire ruled India. A real journey to former British colony through very authentic food and ambience. It is a delightful place, with really authentic good food. This place mainly concentrate South Indian dishes also known as beige foods in all of their tasty forms. When visiting South Indian places, abide by the Holy Trinity: Dosa, Vada, Idli. They have the best of those better than any other places around. The Masala filled Dosas on a banana leaf here are awesome. The texture is just right(crisp on the outside, soft and chewy as you get closer to the interior, not too oily), and the spicy mashed potato filling is done exactly right. Bonus points for the goat balls(basically fried goat meat balls with spices, first thing on the appetizer menu) that are amaze balls as a starter. This place is BYOB-Run away from any Indian restaurant that sells itself as fusion or has a real wine list or a bar program of any kind if you want an authentic treat. The dining area is very small. The place had great food and great service.

Pretty authentic Indian food based on the menu options, employees and patrons. Menu had a very good variety and the waiter helped us order based on what we liked. I don’t really know the names of the items we ended up ordering but they were very tasty and had a good spicy kick to it. We had a goat and rice mix platter and chicken curry dish that was full of flavor. The crab apps was a little salty. The garlic naan was delish! They had several bread flavored options that we have to come back and try.

Its been over 6 months since Kumar’s opened their doors with a very authentic offering in Indian cuisine and its been almost around that time frame since I ventured in there to eat. So decided to go in today for the Weekend lunch special. Made reservations using Open table so didn’t have to wait much. Pros: 1. Online reservation — Highly recommended to avoid crowd and long wait times 2. Food Quality and Taste — Absolutely fantastic and finger licking 3. Courteous Attitude — Available in plenty with pretty much everyone that works there(especially Vinod) Cons:(and the reason for my reducing 2 stars, would have taken 2.5 if possible) SERVICE, SERVICESERVICE!!! If you see my previous review, I had indicated a few problem areas in service. Though I see the owner looks at these comments and takes it as input to make things better, I still don’t see much change in that area. If fact, I felt pretty much everyone working there running around like headless chicken(figuratively speaking) with no idea whats going on. Some peeves i faced today: 1. Informed host about my reservation. He went back to check on an available table and vanished. No where to be found for 10 mins. Asked the hostess and got no response. Saw a few table being cleaned but it seemed people waiting were just taking over them without having the host seat them(he wasn’t at his station) 2. Once seated, plates were given and food was served. This was the only time where the food was offered without us calling out for any attention. For the rest of the 40 mins spent in the restaurant, we had to call out to various people moving around to replenish items on plate. 3. You ask someone to bring a dish, the person will come serve the one who asked and then walk off. No effort to ask the rest at the table if they need any.(Guys, it helps you to serve everyone in one go rather than make multiple trips). 4. I saw at least about 10 people wearing Kumar’s t-shirt(mostly working there) just roam around without a clue of what they are trying to do. Just felt like sitting at a crowded bus station and having a meal(guess added to the exciting experience… lol) 5. Fruit Juice Bar is just a complete waste of space. The restaurant itself is small and with the amount of people coming in to enjoy the food, its much pricey real estate going waste. They can easily accommodate 2 more table(to seat 6 each) in that space. Suggestion: If you are going to offer a mess style experience, its not rocket science to master the art of serving. Divide your restaurant in 4 – 5 areas, allocate 1 person per item per 1 – 2 area and have them serve dishes continuously going by each table and asking everyone if they need any more servings. Host needs to take charge, control the front of the house and should NOT be gone from their station for more than 5 minutes. You guys run a fantastic restaurant but the service leaves a bad taste in the whole experience. Hope you guys quickly fix it!

We had a great experience ar Kumar’s! I asked the owner Kumar to let my group have the food on the banana leaf, something they do on weekends and we were there on a Wednesdy night. He was super nice and accommodating, so we have near 30 people enjoying this unique South Indian style. Food was great, not too spicy and very satisfying. We had the curries, chicken, mutton, vegetables and a dessert. Everybody loved it! Now we are going to go back and try the regular menu. Can’t wait to get the crab, seems amazing! Want to know more about the food? What S. Krishna said below. Yes, I recruit my friends to post reviews to make my life easier! Service was great, fast and attentive. Very nice staff and owner, a winner in my book!

3.5 stars. This place is similar to Chennai Café in Frisco, TX and Round Rock, TX. Once again you have combination of Andhra, Tamil and some Kerala dishes. Best part is they are open till midnight on Friday and Saturday. We went to this place on Friday night late. There were people but menu was limited. The dosa was nice. Biryani was not a biryani at all more like a fried rice. Kothu Parotta was great, spicy and packed a punch. Tried the idly and it was stale and chewy. Sambar chutney were average. They have a $ 2 pan if you like a traditional Indian mouth freshener. Most decent restaurants in Dallas area do. All the staff is 100% UT Dallas students. Although all students, staff was attentive and prompt and seemed to care. Ambiance was decent, lighting was flattering, seemed clean. Serving-ware was all steel with banana leaf which was impressive. This is at least better than Austin restaurants who have shop lights and serve in plastic and styrofoam for the same price. If they were in Austin, I’d give them 4 stars. .

This is so far the best Indian restaurant in Dallas area. Their food is very authentic and flavorful and their quality is really good. It is a very unique concept and the food reminds me of food back home. I have been here for their lunch twice and was very happy with the variety of food they served. Mutton chukka is the best in the additional appetizers. I highly recommend this restaurant for their food, service and ambience. ps: — try to get a reservation a week before. Trust me it is worth the money you spend

This is a cool Vegetarian/Vegan friendly restaurant that offers multiple dishes with great flavor. And to add to this, it’s a restaurant that is BYOB so that you can enjoy meals even more. I think that’s cool! :) For any first times that may consider coming to this restaurant, I recommend that you try their None-Vegetarian or Vegetarian Thali,(metal plate with several little bowls filled with different sides), it has a little of everything sort of like a Sampler Plate. Note: I wish that this restaurant would have their Menu be as friendly as their version on the web. The one on the web tells what dishes are Vegetarian/Vegan friendly. Maybe this could be an option that can be considered? Note: This restaurant is Vegetarian, and Vegan friendly
