How I lived less than 15 minutes away from Baltzer’s and not known about it before now, is beyond me. A neighbor bought a Japanese maple from them and told me about them. We went there and were thoroughly amazed at the selection and quality of their maple trees. They are all beautiful and there are rows upon rows to pick from. There are two downsides to going to Baltzer’s. First of all, the selection is so vast, it is difficult to pick just one. The second reason is the setting is so idyllic and beautiful that it is hard to leave once you are there. Bob is the owner and has been in this location for many years. He gave us a list of trees and row locations so we could find exactly what we were looking for. He loaned us a book we used to identify the characteristics of each species we might be interested in. Another reviewer said it was the best kept secret and possibly the best nursery in the state. I totally agree! Do yourself a favor and visit Baltzer’s. Wander through the many rows of maple trees and other plants. Gaze at the old magnificent house which is going to be renovated and the old barn. Neither one is open to visitors but they are beautiful to look at. Check out the pieces of old farm equipment. If you have any questions, just ask Bob. He loves to chat and will give you the history of everything there. I love this place!

Hands down, the best maple nursery, and best kept secret. I would say this is one of the best nurseries in the state.

Let me start off by saying Bob and Nancy Baltzer are the best! Always willing to help, very knowledgeable and easy going. Whenever I’m in town I stop by and have been known to travel great distances to visit this garden of Eden. On to the nursery itself, it’s gorgeous(make sure to check out the beautiful landscaped section by the back of the house), I’m always captured going up the drive way with the charming mid-1800’s farm house to the left and the beautiful huge oak tree ahead. They have a LARGE selection of Specialized landscaping trees like Japanese maples, dwarf conifers, and bonsais, along with planters and awesome hand carved(by Bob himself) stone basins. They have been in business for about 30 years and featured a handful of times in Sunset magazine. So whether or not your in the market for a red laceleaf maple or just want to stroll around somewhere beautiful check out Baltzer’s Nursery! Note they are closed a couple days of the week, forget which ones but they’re always friendly to call so don’t be shy.
