This is by far my favorite Japanese restaurant in the East Bay. The service is always amazing and the food is wonderful. I always get Sashimi or Sushi. The Sashimi Assortment dinner comes with so many wonderful types of fish. My favorite is the Albacore Tataki, which is served in a cocktail glass. It has ponzu sauce and a spicy flavor that is just out of this world. The Miso Soup is also very good. You can tell when places just use a Miso packet mix, as opposed to homemade Dashi, Miso, etc. The Tonkatsu Curry is also excellent. I am a regular here, and I plan to be for a long time!

Overpriced and just not good. Go to Tomi at SunValley for better quality and a much better value. This place is for people who dont know any better.

The food here is fantastic. I absolutely love coming in here and eating the food. There reason I did 4 stars in stead of 5 is that the ambiance and location can use a little bit of work. Fantastic for lunch!

Nice find! Spicy tuna was fantastic, California Roll had real crab that the kids devoured. Service a little slow but it was a busy Saturday night. We’ll be back for sure.

Update your Unilocal page’s business hours. They’re no longer open after«lunch…» went there for nothing.

A random find on a Sat night led us to this delicious spot. I’ve seen it on Unilocal a dozen times but always scrolled past due to it being a little farther away. However I was in Pleasant Hill for an errand and decided to try it out. First of all, they were sweet enough to put our names on the waiting list when I called and said I was on my way over and asked if there was a wait. Most places will refuse to do that until you arrive but they actually offered it without asking! When we arrived, we only waited a few minutes before we seated. They were busy but the staff was very sweet and courteous and our service was wonderful. Our water and tea never went empty and the food was really amazing. We tried the Agedashi Tofu, 49er roll, Otoro Nigiri, Katsu chicken dinner and the matcha pudding dessert and tofu cheesecake mousse dessert. Everything was super fresh and delicious. I love that they offer a vegan and low fat dessert that tasted like smooth creamy mousse with fresh berry toppings. The prices are a little high here and be sure to ask about specials on the board since you may be surprised when the check comes if you didn’t ask first. Our O toro nigiri was $ 19 for 2 pieces! So… we won’t be ordering that again because that is just too pricey for 2 pieces of fish and rice. 2 people dining can easily run into the $ 60 – 80 range with appetizer, rolls, entrée and dessert. It was definitely a great experience so we will be back:)

The freshest sushi in the East Bay! Got the chirashi and it had more variety of fish than any other place we’ve tried in the Lamorinda/Walnut Creek area. Even the salad and miso soup were authentic. Friendly service. Only downside was that the sushi took a long time and they ran out of fresh salmon, but we went during the holidays and they only had 2 sushi chefs to serve a packed a house. Not sure if that’s normal. Their hot entrees seemed very reasonably priced, ie katsu curry for $ 10.50. Looks like they take reservations which I’d recommend as it’s a small place. This was our first time there, and we’ll definitely be back.

S U S H I !!! Just the thought of it makes my palate happy; really more like ecstatic! When I first moved up to the East Bay I began looking for a local«quality sushi spot.» Ya’ gotta have one of those! After researching restaurants on where else but Unilocal,I found the reviews on Jo’s. I was impressed with what I read so I decided to give Jo’s a go. That was in December 2011… I’ve been a faithful regular since then. IF you’re looking for an over abundance of fancy sounding rolls with catchy names, this isn’t the place. Jo doesn’t waste his time entertaining all that jazz, instead he focuses on the quality of the delicacies he serves his many many customers, a lot are regulars like me. On one of the first lunch visits I witnessed Jo reject some fish that arrived from one of his suppliers because it wasn’t fresh enough. I don’t know about you but that kind of scrutiny speaks of the pride he has in his offerings. I have wayyy too many favorites to list, wayyy too many. And… there are some off menu goodies that I will not divulge because they’re rare to come by and I want them for myself and whoever is with me at the moment, sorry. =) There is off shelf regular fare and there are specials. The specials are of limited supply and they’re posted on the shelving behind the sushi bar. Get them while you can! If you want cheap sushi, you’ll get cheap quality, so be prepared to drop some coin here. There is ample parking in the lot so thats not to be a concern. The restaurant itself is not large so seating is limited. If you arrive during rush hours, you will have to salivate from a distance while you wait. But with all jokes aside, the staff is super friendly, the place is clean, and the restroom even has a bidet. LOL! See you at Jo’s!

Jo’s Sushi only serves the freshest and highest quality fish. Sashimi is always sweet and delicious. The fish is so good I don’t like to mask it in a roll, not to say they aren’t delicious as well, just my preference. I love his Wasabi spinach, tasty. We have been going here for years, starting back in his Ellinwood days. Consistently fantastic, always plated beautifully. It’s just a fun place and delicious!

The best sushi in the Diablo Valley. The rolls are great, and the nigiri and sashimi are very flavorful. We now get take out from Jo’s regularly. We feel so lucky to have such a great sushi bar in our neck of the woods!

We ordered take out on a Friday night and were impressed by their speed and flavor of 2 out of the 3 rolls. We got the volcano, rock n roll, and shrimp tempura. The volcano tasted too salty and fishy for our taste but was still edible. The rock n roll was delicious and the shrimp tempura was a little heavy on the cream cheese. Overall it was good and fast. We will definitely eat here again. One disappointment was that their prices are higher than the menu on Unilocal. Each roll was over a dollar more than listed on the Unilocal menu.

visiting with friends who live in walnut creek brought me to this very japanese sushi bar. i say that since most sushi-themed restaurants in houston are not japanese owned. sitting at the bar it was refreshing to see an all japanese staff preparing all the good stuff. everything’s well done from the bowl of miso all the way to dessert oranges. be sure to try the iced green tea — very refreshing and one of the few places that have asahi super dry on tap. go already!

Jo’s probably has the best in-season sushi rolls! I love getting fresh rolls of ahi/yellow tail/unagi and the fish is so fresh. It can get a bit busy on Friday/Saturday nights but I usually get a seat within ~10 minutes for 2 – 4 people. I am into spicy rolls and they have a variety! The portions you get at this place are pretty big as well, usually share 2 – 3 rolls between two people and an appetizer ! Love coming to this place!

Nice people, good quality bites but over inflated pricing … Ordered what I’m going to guess were very special oysters because they were at $ 3.95 a piece; originally believed the price reflected nigiri-like pricing(i.e., 2 pieces) but even after the pricing clarification, thought«let’s treat ourselves.» They were ok oysters – I think. We couldn’t taste ‘em because they drowning in a shoyu vinaigrette. Found the same oysters being served at Rockin’ Crawfish on Willow Pass Rd for 6 @ $ 11.99. Gal gave us 2 extra because the oysters were so small. Sashimi dinner + 4 oysters + anago nigiri = $ 52.65

With the ratings, I wanted to try this spot out for a while now. It’s a very cute restaurant with really nice people. We ordered their garlic chicken teriyaki and I think that was a winner. It was really good with rice. I also ordered their tempura soba and enjoyed that also. I was so excited to try their matcha pudding, but it was a huge disappointment. It wasn’t good at all. I should have gotten the green tea ice cream instead.

Just had an awesome quick small meal Before an engagement party and was very satisfied. Ebi tempura with veggies was great. Kamikaze roll was a good bang for your buck and the miso soup was really good. I would come back again.
