Besides the wait for Cinco de Mayo(which was expected), it was a very good first experience. The waitstaff was courteous in letting us know how long the wait would be and didn’t lie/exaggerate like most other restaurants. Our waiter was friendly and checked on us throughout the meal. Chips and salsa were complimentary; the salsa had a nice heat to it and wasn’t too overwhelming. It was well-balanced with the tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. We got a Pina Colada and a Strawberry Daiquiri. Yummmmmmmm! I got the cheese quesadilla and my roommate got the chicken burrito. The quesadilla had the perfect, golden brown toast to it. However, it was exceedingly greasy underneath, which caused the tortilla to become a little soggy. The guacamole it came with was rich, creamy, and addicting, the sour cream was a touch runny for my liking, and the pico de gallo had just the right amount of acidity. The chicken burrito came with yellow rice, refried beans, sour cream, and pico de gallo. It was everything my roommate expected and then some.

The service has a terrible attitude. We waited very long for our food and it was only mediocre. Your better off going some where else.

Take out… chicken fajitas. Two stars on the high end… near impossible to find a menu online. Did find one… on some random site… showed the fajitas as $ 14 but when I picked up — it was $ 20. Not only not worth $ 20 but just not good. kind of tasted like sliced up chicken marsala. rice was not good. can’t remember a less enjoyable mexican take out meal,(side note: they didn’t even have takeout menus at the restaurant — ‘they ran out’). simply put — would not go back. sorry… hate to be negative but can’t think of one positive thing to say…

Everything was very bland. Nothing really had much flavor, the guacamole was the only highlight of the meal. The service was not very good waited more then 10 minutes before even ordering drinks.

Went there once and was very impressed. Good atmosphere. Good food. Placed an order another time for carry-out and food still good. Many Mexican places give a small order of chips and salsa with to-go orders, but I didn’t get any with my to-go order. Otherwise, good place.

My husband and I have come here for years either for a sit-down dinner or for take out. The food is pretty good(I usually order steak burritos). The customer service is good as well; the staff has always been nice to us. We highly recommend this restaurant :)!

Came here because we just happened to be in the area. It was a Thursday night 9pm – one hour before closing time with only 2 other tables with customers in the entire restaurant. About 4 waiters were supposedly working. Food was so-so. Ordered the enchilada with green sauce which was me-eh. Too sour and soggy for my liking. We also had the Al pastor which was tasty(2 stars). The servings were also pretty big– certainly enough to share. What’s lacking is the customer service. Waiters were very non-chalant and just acted like they didn’t want to be there. The 4 waiters started having dinner at a visible table in the corner– the same time we were having ours. Hence no one bothered to check on our table while we were eating. They were too busy eating too. No drink refills were offered, no «is everything ok?» was asked. Instead, we received nothing but glares from them, like darts wishing we would leave. Then, when we asked for the check, they acted like they didn’t want to see or hear us. We were treated like intruders. Well, so sorry we are bothering you on your supper time. How rude of us. Puh-lease! I think if we had left without paying, they probably wouldn’t have cared. But of course, from the very bottom of our kind hearts, we patiently approached the waiter’s dinner table until one waiter finally got up and brought the check. We then paid our dues, gladly left, never to look back.

I am in this area with friends about twice a year and this is always our dinner spot. Good portions, ok prices, decent food, cute décor. Go early before it gets too busy! Don’t know if they take reservations — we are usually there early enough that there isn’t a wait for a table of 2 or 3 people but by the time we leave there are people waiting to be seated. Great salsa and I like that they make guacamole fresh tableside. The margaritas are tasty too :) The staff is always nice even when it is really busy.
Only issue is when you try to customize a dish when it is really busy — no sauce/sauce on the side etc.(my friend prefers thing simple without being too saucy.) Not a fast food place so don’t expect to be in and out in a hurry. We usually start with drinks and chips/salsa/guac and a main. If we have time we’ll share a dessert as well. But usually by then the place is filling up and people are waiting for a seat and it’s harder to rush out.

Full disclosure: I’ve only eaten here once, and it was in 2010, so maybe it’s changed, but that one experience drove me FAR away. For a tiny order of chips and guac and a smallish burrito, I was charged $ 34. ABSURD. It was takeout, so no comments on the dining experience, but given that there’s a fabulous Mexican place that’s incredibly cheap right in Ossining, I’ll never go back.

Don’t know how this place gets good reviews. Ordered take out and the food was bland, cold and expensive.

I highly recommend Don Juan. I first stopped by here by chance, never having heard of it before, and it is now one of my favorite places to eat. They have never disappointed — the food is always amazing, the atmosphere is great, the service is always fast and the servers themselves are always friendly and on the ball. If you haven’t yet, definitely try the guacomole! Hands down, five stars.

I have been here many times. Consistently good traditional Mexican. Their daily specials and house specialties are inventive and delicious. Guacamole fantastic. Great drinks. Friendly service. Reasonably priced. No attitude or fake modern twists. Muy bien.

My friend lives in the area so we decided to grab an early dinner on a week night here. Sangria was OK, service was OK too. Ambiance is fine though the booths are horribly uncomfortable, shallow benches so you feel like you are sliding off. We got guacamole made fresh at the table, it was nice. My friend ordered the Shrimp with garlic & lemon butter sauce which she didn’t like as it had none of the garlic/lemon flavor it should have and the sauce was too creamy. My skirt steak came out almost med/well done even though I asked for medium but it had a nice char grilled flavor to it so it was tasty. For dessert we got churros — good stuff. Inexpensive. Over all, an average spot.

You know what? I’m giving this place five stars! The food was not some yawn-fest Mexican; it was flavorful and well cooked and seasoned. The dishes weren’t comprised of a bunch of filler, such as beans and rice; yes, you were provided such sides, as you should, but the entrée was filled out nicely with a variety of vegetables that was a nice surprise! And the portions were sizeable, so you were getting bang for your buck. This is my new go-to Mexican place. Love it!

Lovely décor here, bright and festive. Margarita’s, chips, salsa, guac & quesadilla’s do not disappoint. After reading the previous reviews I paid in cash. Nice place, but I am not taking any chances.

I found this gem accidentally and boy am I glad I did. I had lunch at DJ today and my experience was fantastic. Spoke with the owner for a while. He is so sweet and very friendly. The food is very well seasoned. I really liked the flavor of their salsa, they don’t drown it in cilantro like other places do. I wish it was thicker though, it was a little on the watery side for me. I thought their homemade hot sauce was AMAZING. I was given the warning of its spiciness but it wasn’t as spicy as I thought it was going to be. I mixed it with their salsa and WOW, it really made the salsa even better. I ordered a spinach burrito with avocado and they really give you a burrito FILLED with spinach. I also ordered the beef Sopes which was good too. I added their homemade hot sauce to everything just for an extra kick.

Wow, who knew there was such a great Mexican restaurant around here? There were chips on the table shortly after we sat down. I highly recommend ordering the guacamole de la casa and quesadillas-easily the highlight of the meal for me. They make the guacamole fresh in front of you! The quesadillas were impeccable, with a perfect amount of deliscious cheese and steak. I had a mixed platter for my meal, which i forget the name of, bur everything on it was good. I was very pleased to find that only the taco was spicy, as I don’t enjoy spicy food. We all walked out so full and happy! The only downsides were a weirdly narrow booth seat and not so great décor.

The food was very fresh and tasty, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. My one complaint about this place was that as a 6 foot tall guy the booths felt a bit cramped. However as soon as the food was put on the table myself and others instantly forgot about this minor detail as we ravenously lurched over the table. Appetizers not too miss include the guacamole made at the table, and the steak quesadilla. Definitely a solid choice for the neighborhood. Another tidbit is that they are sensitive to people that are wary of spicy food.
