COLD chicken tasted and smelled horrible! Soul food with no crystal or Louisiana hot sauce? Never coming here to waist money again!

Food is good has a nice flavor and its home run family type of spot so I always try and support these types of spots. The portions are decent but tbh its a little pricey. don’t let the 3stars fool you its good home cooked food ! I’m just extremely scarse with the stars … I take everything into consideration and try to give only the best of the best 4&up. rarely a 5

Delicious and authentic. My hubby is from New Orleans, and he is already talking about coming back. Staff is nice, and food came quick.

I ordered some fried fish, sand dabs specifically, because I just wanted a small snack. The fish was old, tasted bad, and poorly cooked. Pure garbage. Had to throw it out.

This was my first time here. A lot of people told me this is the BBQ of Pomona. Well my first time was not exciting, there was only one worker working. So it took 45minutes. I wanted to eat there, but sense I had to get to work. I had to eat it on the bus stop. Now the PULLEDPORKSANDWICH was excellent. So I will be returning for a second chance. I gave 3 stars for how good the food was.

Missing my husband who passed away one year ago I found myself craving his favorite food BBQ ribs. Not having found anything with a taste of down home make you wanna suck your fingers goodness I decided to Unilocal.Thank the BBQ God I found JnJs. On arrival I met a lovely lady in the parking lot with an amazing smile and welcoming manner who asked if this was my first visit, I replied yes and she made suggestions which I appreciated. It was Sunday and they have a brunch but I ordered from the menu. The smells were intoxicating and the offerings looked delicious. I ordered what the little chef angel suggested in addition to 2 other dinners. Keep in mind there is only me but I was playing the odds that some element would be disappointing so the more of a variety, the better my chances of having a complete satisfactory meal. News flash everything was amazing and I was transported back to my mothers kitchen. Tender, juicy, smokey Baby Back Ribs with a sauce with just the right ratio of sweet to spicy with a mild lingering heat. Smokey flavorful collard greens, creamy potato salad that had me wanting more and I don’t care for potato salad, home made macaroni salad to die for, fluffy inside hush puppies with finely chopped jalapeño pepper inside, crispy fried catfish, yams, Mac n cheese… argh…drool. The food, the staff, the food. Devine soul sustenance. It is my now favorite spot. If you want a taste of southern soul, to JnJs you must go.

If you’re looking for the perfect BBQ joint, move along, J&J’s isn’t perfect. It’s only excellent! The place feels like a real family owned establishment. The folks here are friendly. It’s a nice place to enjoy excellent BBQ. We ordered the Pork Ribs Dinner Plate with the spicy sauce. This is the main reason I will be returning. The sauce is indeed spicy for me but not too much. I have had better quality meat for similar cost. But this was a minor disappointment. The meal was great. We also had: corn bread(just right, not too sweet), French fries(well seasoned), Texas style pinto beans(kinda plain), Macaroni salad(kinda sweet), Potato salad(on the sweet side), greens and Mac ‘n’ Cheese. Each was a good and competent side. The pink lemonade, sweet potato pie and lemon pound cake were all excellent. This place is on the west side of Indian Hill, north of Holt. This part of town needs work but it is safe enough for families. We had a very nice experience and enjoyed the meal.

The food here tastes like home cooking. I got the brisket with two sides and loved it! Not too much sauce but just enough to taste the meat, it had a nice, savory taste. My friend had the snapper which was to his liking. The price was around $ 10 for a plate, but there’s also dinner option which costs around $ 13. Gotta try the desserts next time! It’s hard to find good bbq nowadays, so give this spot a try!

The place was Fire giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I gotta try the spicy bbq sauce next time before I can give it the holy 5 but I was very pleased with the smoked ribs and Mac n cheese… the pulled pork was also great and the hush puppies have a nice spice to them… not gonna lie… Probably gonna hit the buffet they have going on Sunday’s…cause what I ordered just wasn’t enough!!!

On a recent Sunday, I had my heart set on BBQ. However, I didn’t want to drive to my usual spot some 40 miles away to get it. So I activated my trusty Unilocal app and entered in BBQ. Why? Because there just had to be something near me(like within 10 miles), right? Previously, I had listened to friends who I’ve since concluded have no idea what good BBQ is. As a result, their wayward recommendations of two other establishments proved to be disastrous. Horribly disastrous. I won’t embarrass those two local, non-big box joints, but let’s put it this way, it was so bad I didn’t even write a review. I don’t need the owners looking for me with bad intentions. My Unilocal app directed me to a BBQ spot in Chino that, despite Unilocal saying they were opened, turned out to be closed for the day. Uh, hello? What BBQ spot is closed on Sunday??? That’s un-American. Monday, yes. Sunday, no. Being completely frustrated I was about to give up when I spotted another location, in Pomona. It wasn’t that far and the ratings were good. If you’ve followed my reviews, I have no problem trying new BBQ because I believe every«Q’er» deserves a shot at the title. So I drove to J and J’s BBQ& Fish. I went in with an open mind and a very hungry stomach. The location, in a small strip mall, is small. That’s ok. There’s ample parking out front, so that wasn’t a big deal either. They have a few tables and a tv for those dining in or waiting for their food. Their menu was full of tasty alternate choices, but I wasn’t interested in filtering through their meal options. I wanted BBQ, dammit. The young lady that took my order must have thought I was from Mars. When I told her what I was looking for, she quickly ran off several additional options before I stopped her. I said simply, «I want rib tips.» She looked at me and smiled. «That’s it?» she asked. «Yes ma’am, that’s it and I’d like a pound of them.» She grinned and said, ok. Then she reached over the counter and twisted my arm and said, «you are going to get some fries with that aren’t you???» Fearing she’d flip my non fat, 6’2, 245 pound body over the counter, I quickly gave in and ordered the fries. Ok, it didn’t happen that way, but I thought that was more interesting than me looking over at the fries and admitting my weakness for them. Don’t judge me. I ordered the ribs(and fries) and waited. Within minutes, a gentleman called over and handed me my order. I learned my lesson from being disappointed with the last two locations and took my order home. I’m glad I did because, I’m sorry, I’m not messy, but for some un-Holy reason, I continually spilled BBQ sauce on my shirt(running your fingers through the sauce and licking them is a messy proposition that I wouldn’t recommend). Needless to say, the ribs were cooked just right. Tender, but not sloppy with just the right amount of flavorful goodness. As a result, I’m going to try them again. I didn’t give them five stars because, although a pound is a pound, it didn’t look like it when I opened my bag. But I’m not deterred. Next time I’ll order two pounds. Problem solved! I’ll also try their spicier sauce as well. As I’m typing this, I’m thinking how much I’m looking forward to going back. Like today. Wait, today is Monday.

I was looking for a place that had good soul food and I was very happy in finding this restaurant on Unilocal!Has a great mom and pops feel, plus the food is on point! The customer service was excellent; they made us feel right at home. We both ordered the 3 meat combo: ribs, brisket, Chicken, and hot links. Everything was cooked to perfection and their BBQ was to die for. We got Mac and cheese, greens, red beans, and potato salad as sides. Now I’m picky with my Mac and cheese, and it was so perfectly cheesy and seasoned. They were nice enough to throw in 2 free biscuits with their famous honey butter. The portions were generous, leaving me with leftovers to re enjoy for the next day :) we will definitely be returning to try the seafood.

My brother said that I should try this while visiting him so we did. Had the lunch special which was 3 pieces of fish, 3 shrimp &3 hush puppies for $ 7 bucks and some change… of course had to get two glasses of Kool-aid! Yup, kool-aid! Just want you need to wash down that red snapper on a hot day! Establishment is clean, heard the BBQ is very good so perhaps next time. In comparison to Pomona Fish Market, I would choose PFM but in the spirit of supporting a black owned business and not feeling like driving all the way to PFM, JJ’S win. I would come back if I was ever in this area and wanted fish but no big deal and not worth a special trip! Happy eatings!

Great local BBQ that is the real deal. Family run and real friendly — even to a white guy. During my multiple visits I have always had some sort of BBQ, greens and potato salad but it appears the fish is equally as good via the reviews. It ain’t fancy but it is clean, friendly and very good with great smoke flavor.

That dayum GPS sucks! I was in circles for 5 mins LOL the young Lady was very pleasant on the phone when I called in my order. It is lent and I needed to find good ‘soul food’ fried fish they offer Snapper and Catfish. Hush puppies, macaroni & cheese, Cole slaw and french fries. Can’t vouch for the fries(cuz Thomas Jefferson ate those) Red Snapper was the BOMB! Sweet Potato Pie was just perfect and as for the peach cobbler I’ve had better but it wasn’t awful. Sketchy location could be me but i’ll try to go again and see how the area is then. Respectfully Reviewed

Nice place. I would definitely go back. It’s not fancy. Is homely. I like how it is personalized with trophys and photos. The son was really nice. I ordered a lot of food. A combo to eat there, and 3 meals to bring home. Plus sweet potato pie which was good. My favorite is the ribs. i wish i had ate the fish there and fresh out of the frying pan. The mac and cheese is good. The greens are good. I’m not a fan of their Texas beans. Their potato salad is good. I am not a fan of fat on my brisket(yes i know it adds flavor) but the ribs were tender and tasty. My next order: ribs with mac and cheese and greens and a whole pie. I want to try more things. They have a Sunday brunch. I may have to go back so I can taste more things but it’s not near my house. But it is near my job so I will definitely be back.

I ordered out from here for my first visit… two plate lunches: brisket, ribs, hush puppies, greens, beans, corn bread; also tried yams, black eyed peas & peach cobbler. My wife and I are of the belief that all-around excellence is the holy grail of soul food. JnJ is an example of the challenge– in their case, great personalities/service, excellent meats, but mediocre sides. The sides were not bad per se, but not up to the level of the bbq. Other reviews mentioned fatty brisket– they miss the point of smoked meats: you need the fat on the meat to keep it juicy while smoking, just don’t eat it if you happen to get some. Trust, if you trim fat before smoking, the end result will be dry meat. Overall, we will come for smoked meats and perhaps even try some fried foods.
