A cool funky store, tucked away in a special part of the SF Bay Area that most people don’t know exists. Rode my bike there on a Sunday to enjoy the shopping, sights, and views of the Carquinez Strait. Port Costa is a most delightful throwback in time.

A couple of times a year we drive out to Port Costa. I peer in the window of this shop and delight in the fantasy of it all but have never seen it open till today. The artist, Wendy Addison makes a wonderful array of indescribable one of a kind items: signs, banners from antique silk, old letter press books, decorated eggs, shadow puppet boxes, glitter alphabet. While we were there a little girl was asking to see the fairy dance. There was a life sized winged fairy behind a curtain that danced. It was magic and wonderful. I hear her shop is open about once a month or by appointment.

I swear that this place is NEVER open to the public. Anyways, if you’re at the bar late a night and need a breath of fresh air, take a stroll up the street to this little establishment. Peer through the old, swirly glass and you’ll see a hodge podge of strange and fantastic things — theater props and costumes, old glassware, typewritters, paper marionettes and CATS! Big fluffy cats sleeping on all types of surfaces in the workshop. They are cute and will come up to the wavy glass to see what’s up.
