Good food but lacklustre service. NOT the place to go unless you have a lot of time to wait…

I’ve been there several times. The breakfast is great. Large portions. I especially like the omlets and pancakes. Hash browns are really good too. They have a very good fish fry on Friday and the price is right! I’ve had the hot turkey sandwich which brings me to 1 complaint the mashed potatoes did not taste fresh. Serving old food isn’t worth loosing a customer. I gave them a second chance. Other times I’ve had that dish it was very good. The service is very good. They have really good deserts pies and cakes.

The server we had was really nice and accommodating considering the time we walked in and I really want to like this place for that reason, but with regard to the food a two is the best I can do and I’m really sorry about that. The background: I was giving some friends from my adopted city the Columbia County tour; by the time we hit Portage it was getting pretty dark. We considered Norm’s Pitstop downtown but the hours weren’t going to work out. Tamarack was considered, but they were packed. Somebody floated this place’s name – we were starting to run short on options so, hell, why not? I had the chicken and ribs special. I wasn’t expecting it to be the best I’ve ever had, but this was like high school cafeteria level food. The sauce was extremely runny on both the chicken and the ribs and the meat itself was very overcooked. It came with some canned peas(if they weren’t canned, I have no idea how they got this overcooked, because they were basically mush) – not appetizing. The soup was a little bit better, although on the salty side. I had the cabbage meatball. It was tasty enough for a basic soup, but there was nothing that really differentiated it from a can of Campbells if I’m completely honest. The salad was the best part of the meal. There was nothing special about the salad. The food is honestly one-star quality; the really endearing service bumps my review up to two stars, but that won’t be enough to bring me back. I’m actually really sorry about this one!

We were looking for a place for dinner that was better than fast food but nothing too fancy or expensive. The Golden Cup 2 fit the bill perfectly. It is a typical non-chain family café with a big menu, large portions, and very reasonable prices. I ordered the BBQ rib and chicken dinner special. The special included soup(cabbage meatball, which was pretty tasty), salad, a couple of ribs, chicken leg and thigh, choice of potato, and corn for $ 7.50. It wasn’t true BBQ but I wasn’t expecting it to be. It was plenty of decent food at a really good price. We did not experience the slow service mentioned by other reviewers but the restaurant wasn’t very busy that night either. In fact, I thought the service was really good. I would have no problem recommending the Golden Cup 2. Seems like it would be a great place for breakfast or lunch. I will definitely stop again when I am in Portage.

Stopped here with my parents for lunch. Mom and dad were happy with their Greek salad and chicken sandwich. He especially liked the fries– not too salty. I ate chicken salad stuffed tomato which came with fruit and cottage cheese. Delicious and filling. Prices reasonable. Waitress not the friendliest.

Went here for a few breakfast meals. Coffee was good. Our meals were great. Our server was very friendly and remembered our orders the next few times we came in. I recommend the veggie skillet or the eggs Benedict.

We were looking for breakfast restaurant close to the highway and golden 2cup had good reviews. We don’t agree. Food was bland, bacon no taste and coffee not very good. Our waitress was nice but there was another waitress who coughed the whole time we were there-not very comforting around food. Would not go back

Gave the friday fish fry a shot. It is really good. It is all you can eat cod for only 7.75 and includes soup AND salad, bread and choice of potato. Service was good, food came out quickly. Id like to go back and try some of the standard menu items but two all you can eat fish frys and two sodas for 20 bucks with tax is a good deal.

I had high expectations when I entered this place. My dad and grandmother had told me many good things about the food here. Unfortunately tonight was the first bad experience for my dad. I was let down. We arrived for dinner at 5:45, this place was about 20% full, if that… There was two servers working. Our server stopped by and she took our drink order, just two Pepsi’s. About 10 minutes later the server brings the Pepsi’s back. She takes our dinner order and it takes them about 40 minutes to get our food. That’s 50 minutes from the time we walked in to the time we were able to eat. That’s far too long, I had the grilled cheese with french fries and cheesy bacon soup. The soup is good, the grilled cheese was plain as were the fries. My dad had the gyro, he said they’re okay. I’ve heard great things about there Friday Fish fry. I will make a 2nd round to see if it’s any better. The prices were very low, restaurant was clean. I’m willing to give them a second chance.
