A-1 Lawnmower Shop

I have a 10 year old, 32cc Craftsman edger. $ 275 when new. It’s been well cared for and always maintained with regular air filter cleaning, premium gas and good spark plugs.
A couple months ago the edger would start and idle but not accelerate. I had a feeling it only needed some carburetor cleaning. Patrick diagnosed the issue in a couple minutes. One week later he had it all cleaned and adjusted. It runs and works like it did when I bought it.
Patrick charged me $ 30, which I felt was a great price. To give you some perspective, initially, I took the edger to Roy Boy’s in Tigard. They (ponytail — man child) were extremely rude and condescending to my wife. They said it would be at least three weeks and cost a minimum of $ 80. After 3 weeks and no call, I called and was told the piston was «gummed up» and it would cost more than the edger was worth to fix it. They said the «inspection fee» would be $ 20, but, if I just wanted to leave them the edger for recycling they’d waive the fee.
I’ll go back to Patrick with my business and I would definitely recommend him.

All in all seems to be a pretty good operation per his reviews, I didn’t get a chance to try him out, because he’s overloaded with work to the extent he can’t take new business right now. I had to go with my 2^nd choice and am still out two weeks. (this is peak time right now)
I would suggest calling first to make sure he’s taking work.
Not gong to mark him down for being too good though.

This was everything that I had hoped for. Great service at very reasonable prices. I have been looking for a place like this since moving to Portland and I am very pleased that A-​1 is there for all my small engine service and repair.

My lawn mower was spewing white smoke and this was happening after I had taken it in to Sears in November. I could see it was doing the same thing again and even though I was covered under warranty, I didn’t want to drag my lawn mower back and have it do the same thing again after I received it. I spoke to the owner and he was so very nice. He asked a few questions and diagnosed the problem. I had overfilled the oil well. He told me to dump the oil and yippppeee, it worked.
If I have a real problem with my mower, A-​1 is where I’m taking it.

Honest repairman, great rates. Took a lawn mower that had been sitting in a friends garage for a couple years to A1 and he fixed it right up for less than $ 75, saving me hundreds on a new mower. Highly recommend!

In my case, I have a 10 year old mower where the blade became free spinning after I hit a large rock. I tried to repair it myself only to make things worse to the point where mower wouldn’t even start.
I took it to A-​1 and they repaired it, changed the oil and sharpened the blade for a great price. The even cleaned up the mower. Runs great!

These guys worked with me to come up with a super quick solution to my problem and now I get to mow my lawn this weekend. Super friendly and knowledgable.

my new-​ish lawnmower wouldn’t start. i dreaded taking it somewhere for fear that a.) it would cost an arm and a leg to fix it, and b.) i would be made to feel like an idiot because i know nothing about lawnmowers, plus i was doing everything wrong… using old gas, maybe not putting enough oil in, and beating that mower to h*ll in high, wet grass.
i took my simple little mower to A-​1, ten minutes before they closed. i immediately felt welcomed as the guys took the mower out of my truck to take a look. they cleaned out the carburetor and filter, added some oil, loaded the mower back into my truck, and sent me on my way… all for $ 20. now it runs like a dream!
if you are having any kind of mower problem, don’t hesitate to take it to A-​1!

Brought my lawnmower to Patrick, wondering if it would make sense to fix my sputtering little Briggs & Stratton 5 hp, and resigned to leaving it with him for a few weeks while my grass got longer.
Instead, he diagnosed the problem in 2 minutes, fixed it in 10, and helped me load the mower back into my car. His charges were extremely fair. Would recommend him to anyone.

Last weekend my husband over-​filled the lawnmower with oil and it started blowing white smoke. We thought we blew a seal. He called another repair shop and they wanted $ 100 just to look at it. I suggested my husband call A-​1 after reading all of the great reviews. Patrick said it probably just needed to be drained of some of the oil and explained to my husband how to do it rather than having him bring it in. Well after doing that and replacing the air filter and spark plug it’s perfect. We will use Patrick in the future and recommend him to all of our friends.

I’ve taken my hard to start mower to Patrick twice… he gave it a great tune-​up one year and this year was not going to charge us for his quick, Friday evening help getting it up and running. We REALLY appreciated his willingness to help us out a few Friday’s ago when rain was foreasted for the entire weekend. I drove home and was able to mow my wild looking front yard.

Excellent service! Super nice guy. I went in knowing very little about my machine and Patrick was patient and helpful.
My tiller wasn’t what Patrick usually works on (he specializes on lawnmowers) so he started to recommend another place… He looked at my machine anyways, sorted out the problem AND he didn’t charge me a penny since it was a very simple fix that didn’t require disassembly.
Make sure you don’t miss it — the sign for A-​1 is small and the owner works out of his home.
