I purchased a groupon for services here, and after 2 weeks of calling and emailing, groupon refunded my money because the stylist had no intention of following through. Very disappointing.

Alana was great! She really listened to what I wanted. Gave me a great cut and color and even curled my hair for my date night. I have a ton of hair so I couldn’t believe she took the extra time. Especially with me being a first time client. Will go back for sure! Thanks, Alana!

I went here for a Groupon with Alena. I wasn’t sure what to expect but appreciated the Groupon deal at the moment. Alena was very detailed and thorough, and though the haircut took a lot longer than expected she was very attentive to the style and haircut, which I appreciated. She wasn’t overly talkative at first, but as the haircut went on she was. She actually was very friendly, but to me was focusing on getting the haircut done right first. She is slower than the other stylist that I’ve been going to. but honestly I’d rather have someone who is a little slower, and cares about what she is doing and isn’t rushed… and does a good job. Alena did this! She did take another haircut in the middle, but I’ve had that before. Melissa was chatting with her as well, but asking Alena for highlighting input and feedback. so to me Alena knows how to highlight. I was impressed in the end, and I would definitely go back. It isn’t a «quickie» haircut… and I appreciated that.

I needed a hair cut badly; my short hair-do was becoming shaggy and that was just no bueno. I wanted someone to cut my hair short, which I’m sure any fabulous shop would do here in PDX. I had actually wanted to go to a few ‘in’ spots down over on Division, but quite frankly, I’d stick out like a sore thumb. I’m not hipster enough to even use the word hipster in everyday vocabulary let alone walk into one of their shops without feeling like the odd one out. Hey, its just my own insecurity; I’ll get over it. Anyway, while looking for affordable and ‘does the stylist have experience’, I came across Affinity. I found them(via Unilocal) and finally went through their site and found Julie. Now, I’m semi new to town and this was my first go with a new stylist in a new town. Luckily, Julie was down to earth, knows her craft and is reasonable in prices. I absolutely LOVE my new ‘do. Julie asked tons of questions before touching my hair with shears and always made sure my hair was how I wanted it. So in a few weeks when my pixie grows out, I’m calling Julie!

Melissa is wonderful. I have been going to her salon before she moved to 52nd. I love her crew of girls and I always felt she has been honest and gives me a nice styling. She is a pleasure and fun to visit. I always give her extra for her work. I feel she earns it. I think any type of hair style you need will be accomplish at the Affinity Salon.

Alena did a wonderful job on my neglected hair. I showed her a few pictures, she went to work and voilà, I have a haircut I love. I will be back.

First time at Affinity salon in Portland. I travel quite often for work and needed my hair done. Came across Mellissa at Afffinity, who is an answer to blonde prayer. She went above and beyond to listen to me and I got the greatest cut and color. Def a stop I will make from now on whenever I visit Portland.

I love Melissa, and the hair cuts she has given me at Affinity are always great, but just a little different each time to keep things interesting! I’m so happy I walked in to this place after trying multiple salons over the past several years looking for a great cut at a reasonable price with a friendly, experienced stylist. I have finally found what I have been looking for, and only a few blocks from home!

I found Leila through a groupon at a different salon and followed her to Affinity Salon. She is by far the BEST hair stylest I’ve ever used. I have dark hair which loves to turn red when I color it and I just about gave up until I found Leila. This summer I was able to do a beautiful ombré from brunette to blonde(I never thought I would ever be able to be blonde, since in the past it’s always turned orange) and ever since then she’s been my go to girl. I sent my brothers and best friend there and they all love her work. She’s the best and she is so sweet. Go see her, she’s AMAZING!!!

I got a Groupon for a color/cut/style from Alena. She was wonderful, extremely friendly and talented! She put«peekabook highlights» in my hair which turned out amazing. I still get a lot of compliments on the color. After the cut/color she did the most BEAUTIFUL braid in my hair! From now on, I will only go to Alena for cut/color and, especially, when I need it styled. Thank you!

This is an awesome salon! Mellisa really knows her hair and has been so awesome to work with! I have natural curly hair and have been wearing the same style since high school. No more old school hair for me. Mellisa has helped me move Into the 20th century and I feel great(not to mention my husband really loves the new hairdo)! Her salon is cozy, clean and very inviting! I love the new location on 52nd and parking is never a problem! I also visit Franny for my manicures and pedicures, she is absolutely awesome and the new chair is very sanitary(not like the piped chairs in other salons)! Thanks to my daughter for the referral and thanks to Mellisa and Franny for the new me!

I have CHOSEN Melissa to cut my hair for over 10 years. She listens to her clients but also offers helpful suggestions. She is GREAT with color! The shop is super cute and all the staff is personable and friendly– not snobby! Melissa is a through and through professional and ALWAYS makes sure clients are happy and have what they want before leaving. Affinity is clean and sanitary… unlike many other shops in SE. Great small business and fair pricing for such good service.

Affinity recently moved from Milwaukie on King Rd. This is an excellent salon overall and once you’ve been there you won’t go anywhere else. Mellissa, the owner, is fabulous and has been doing my hair for 15 years. She does perfect colorings & cuts and is extremely knowledgeable. She is a true expert & professional in the hair field. Plus she is a caring & fun person that you’ll look forward to seeing on a regular basis.

If you want great hair color and excellent style ask for Julie at Affinity Salon. Julie not only listens to what I want, but she is able to create a great look with my fine hair each time I visit. In the past five years I have asked Julie to do all sorts of fun things to my hair… from bleach it blond to natural brown with highlights. From short short to long and layered, Julie has done an amazing job keeping my hair fun and healthy, no matter my request. If you want downtown style and color at a humble salon, this is the place for you. Julie can be reached at(503) 333‑0775

Love Affinity Salon! I’ve been getting my hair done by Melissa for the last 5 years or so and don’t trust my hair to anyone else! She always does great with my cut and color, and gives great advice on hair care. She has also saved my hair from a horrible at-home dye job I did and got my hair looking great again. And everyone is very friendly, professional, and knowledgable about their products and profession. I don’t see myself going anywhere else!

An awesome salon in SE Portland. She just moved from 82nd and King and the location is an upgrade. It shares a small parking lot with a café and is located between Foster and Powell on 52nd Ave. Mellissa cuts my hair like a pro. She is personable and knowledgeable without being overbearing or pushy. I trust her opinion and knowledge to do what will look best with my hair. She’s easy to contact to get an appt and flexible with times to work with your schedule. Walkins can be tricky if only one person is working but it’s easy to set an appt too. She endorses Dermorganic products which have been great with my color treated(bleached/dry/damaged), thick, fine hair. I’ll keep going back and even though I was closer to the old location, the new location is better!

Melissa is the best! I would give her a five star but she has to save my life or something first. I just don’t give 5 stars for much less. I am very happy with Melissa. She had me drop by a week prior to make sure my hair was in shape for another color since I had had it done previously. She had a very caring attitude towards me and my hair. You can tell she does hair because she loves doing hair. And she definitely loves people! Give her a try. You’ll be glad you did.

Melissa has been doing my hair since high school, which is to say that she has been doing my hair for over 10 years, four cities, countless boyfriends, and several dramatic«whims». My hair was a mess when I first came to see her. After a traumatizing cut at 14(about 8 more inches than I was expecting), I refused to see a hairdresser for years. My best friend-who always looked immaculate– turned me on to her and I’ve never looked back. Black, blond, red, three color weave, bob, layers, side bangs, short bangs, locks of love: you name it and Melissa can do it, or urge you not to do it if she doesn’t think it will work(I am not«allowed» to get the hot iron perm after Melissa went to the trouble of researching the process and what types of hair is does and doesn’t work on and she’ll argue against getting my hair colored if she knows I am about to take a trip where I’ll be in the sun because it will fade). My best friend got pink highlights in her blond hair and i wish we had pictures as they were the most tasteful«wild» colors i have ever seen. Melissa really, truly cares about her work and her clients and it shows. I tried to move on to other hairdressers when I moved for college and again as i bounced around the country but the cost of getting haircuts I consistently was disappointed with(I can’t count how many times I have heard«oh my gosh girl, what did they do to your hair?») eventually persuaded me that no matter where I was living, I only trust my hair with her. Melissa uses high quality products that she tests on herself first(perms, dyes, waves, shampoos, you name it) and won’t sell anything she doesn’t know is great. Like magic, my hair is in better shape AFTER getting it color treated than before. Her prices are unbelievably reasonable(I would pay twice what she charges and not think twice and I bet wherever you, dear reader, are getting your hair cut you are paying more than I am) and she is a wonderful person to be around and I have come to cherish our time together. She has a critical eye and checks, rechecks, and triple checks her work to make sure that everything is even, no colors have bled, tones are correct, and whatever other hair magic that has to be checked that makes my hair look like a shampoo commercial for months. I know I am a hard client: I wait months to get my hair cut, I wear it up so the ends break, I am too lazy to curl it or blow dry it but demand complicated haircuts anyway, I change my mind, and really never know what I want. And yet, somehow, Melissa gives me celeb-quality hair and treats me like I am being totally reasonable. Part hairdresser, part confidant, part saint, the woman is amazing. Drawbacks? In an ideal world Melissa would be available to cut my hair whenever I had the thought in my head. As it stands, she is seriously busy and I have to plan my appointments weeks in advance and for you 9 – 5’ers, she doesn’t work weekends.
