With a dumbshit name like Aztec Willie & Joey Rose you kinda expect cheap Tex-Mex slop in a tacky restaurant with kids running around everywhere… a server named Jesus or Maria who also owns the joint and asks every 3 minutes if everything is perfecto… a bill for 2 with drinks to hit around $ 25 and not really feel like a great deal in the morning. So yes to all the above except the bill will be closer to $ 50 and you will absolutely not know why. I can only guess they survive off of Lloyd Center traffic that just thinks everything will be expensive but too tacky to understand why that would be. That and drunks that just need something to eat and have more money than sense. If this gets«gentrified»(already in an affluent/yuppie neighborhood) by a Laughing Planet soon I’ll be delighted. As is it’s about twice the price of Laughing Planet and worth half.

The food was okay. They have queso… But it’s not REAL queso if you’re from the Midwest.

I dunno what else is good because I always order the nacho… sometimes there’s dancing and it’s entertaining until someone trips and falls… but that hasn’t happen yet.

Went to Aztec Willie’s on Saturday night for a friend’s birthday. It wasn’t crowded when I got their at 9:30pm but was hoppin’ by midnight. Lots of great music, everyone was dancing but it’s definitely not a place you can talk because the music is pretty loud. I would definitely go back for the dancing. My only negative is there are no servers so you have to go to the bar if you want a drink or go to their food counter if you want something to eat(We were at large table with 10 ppl so having a server would be nice).

It’s pretty average. Lots of salt– I was puffed up like a hot air balloon the next day. After hours(at least on Friday) it became a dance club. Interesting Portland Latino scene. Drinks are whatever — prices are not bad. I probably wouldn’t go back

The first time I went here I got the stuffed peppers which I thought were pretty good but the entire visit I felt like we were searching for our waiter or anyone to come help us. Thinking that maybe we went on an off day I went back a couple weeks later and was sadly disappointed by the wait staff again. My friend went inside to let the staff know we were going to sit at the outside tables like the sign asked and she was ignored by several staff members as they passed her looking like they were too busy to give a care. When someone finally paid enough attention to give her some menus she went back outside thinking the waiter would come shortly. We waited about 10 min for a person to come take our drink and food order. Then about another 15 before we got food. Bottom line the food was good but the waiters are bad. I won’t be coming back.

This is solely based on Friday/Saturday nights when the place turns into a great Latin dance club. I’ve never tried their food. The vibes are just fun all around. It’s mixed with couples who could be professional Latin dancers to those of us who just like to have fun. It gets pretty packed, but surprisingly I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing! My friends and I have gone multiple times and always stay until 2am when they close :) $ 5 cover charge, 21+

The only thing I’ve had here were the complimentary chips and salsa and their Nachos. Both were very good! I loved their nachos. They were loaded with guac, cheese, and sour cream. A great price for the portion size. They also have Pacifico on tap, which is amazing! The bar area is kinda small but there are TVs all over so you can catch a game. Around 9 pm on Saturdays there’s dancing and it gets packed. Pretty fun vibe.

I would say this place is average. The food is okay but the service is good. I wish things were a tad cheaper and had slightly more flavor. Also, I think if you’re serving chips and salsa, the chips should be slightly warm? Who knows, that may just be my personal preference. Last time I was here I had the chicken burrito and my friend had the prawn burrito. While he enjoyed his, it seemed like my burrito was mostly flavorless rice. Not my idea of a good burrito. Maybe I’ll give this place another chance, I’ve heard they have fun dancing nights. But if you want truly good Mexican food I would suggest going somewhere else.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for over a year and had never been inside this place. If you like to salsa dance, this is for you. It truly has the feel of not being in Portland for the night. You are transported to São Paulo or some place south of the equator! I came in later on a Saturday night and the place was bustling with lots of people and great energy! I had the best margarita anywhere in town: no crappy fake sweet and sour mix here. Haven’t tried the food yet, but I’m definitely going to give it a try next time. Oh and the bar area has about 5 or 6 huge TVs for sports:-) I was quite pleasantly surprised by Aztec Willies and have found a new local haunt.

Let me just say… don’t. It’s like a mexican food version of Mcdonald’s. Case and points: –Bad food. And by bad food I mean my burrito had cold cheese in it but was semi-luke warm. *Shudder. YOUHAD1JOB. –Bad vibe. Freezing ass cold. Odd table placement. Brats running around all over the place. «Am I at Chucky Cheese?», the boyfriend inquired. No dear, we’re being punished for being too lazy to cook. Waitress was great though …We should have dined and ditched and left her a nice tip. Someone take me to San Diego. *sob

Based on dancing only. I was looking for a place to dance bachata on a Sunday night in Portland. This is pretty much the only option in town, but it was great. There were only 10 people there, but the DJ was good and friendly; nice mix of salsa, bachata and merengue. The dance floor was big enough, and although it was a little loud, you could move to the back and have a conversation. The drinks were good, and I would go back to try other nights without hesitation. $ 5 cover.

Usually the best Mexican food I’ve experienced is at the worst looking places. I was extremely pleased to finally find a place that knew What they were doing and also had the atmosphere that I like. Classy, clean, and comfortable. You walk in and it’s open they have a very cute bar, children play place and spaced out seating. And no booths! Booths are so fast food. Their menu is complex but has everything you’d ever want. They’ve won awards for their pico de gallo and also for their house margaritas so you know I had to try them. And it was worth it. Some places the margaritas make me sick and taste like dirt. But these margaritas are made right and are absolutely divine. They make their own tortillas right before your eyes fresh! I was sold when I saw that. The carne asada can not be passed up either. I usually do chicken to be safe everywhere but here I must have the carne asada. I’ve eatn there the last two days. That should say enough. Absolutely a must try!

Great place for a tex mex inspired meal. Plenty of meats to choose from to customize your dish. All ingredients fresh and entrees made fresh to order. Staff is very friendly and great to have a conversation with. Plenty of open seating and street parking.
