This is the second time and second venue I have checked out of theirs. First was a private party; the second at Mississippi Pizza. Their song selection and sound quality is stellar. Both times, my friends tipped in advance. The second time the kj made a point to remind us to tip when we already had. People only sing one song — unless they are the event organizer or a friend of the kj. As a rule, don’t expect to sing more than one song. This is fine if you like to dance for hours while waiting for your one chance at drunken stardom.

BKK can redeem itself. Hire them for private parties to ensure satisfaction. In the public realm, the resentment regarding tipping for no songs played will just piss you off. I understand the idea that tipping the KJ is decent but people don’t need to be patronized into tipping without having their songs played. I have witnessed angry people reaching back into the tip jar to take back their money at the end of the night. I can’t even imagine what kind of confrontation that creates. I will say that their mics are the best in town. The sound adjustments and quality are mint.

This review is for Baby Ketten Traveling Karaōke Services, by us the band of self proclaimed Karaōke nerds. We are a hand full of friends that go out of our way to find and review karaōke spots in and around the Portland metro area. Baby Ketten are a mobile karaōke unit that have a few dates booked in and around the Portland metro area. I am sure their webpage have the scoop on dates TBA. The main draw is the fact that they make their own karaōke tracks. So one can find songs from popular underground artists like warpaint, florence and the machine, and the Civil Wars. One thing that could be improved is their technical skills as per the sound system. One should not tell the singer to put their lips directly on the mic.(that is full of germs I am sure) One needs to sharpen skills to balance sound properly. As a seasoned singer of 30 years I project extremely well and use proper mic technique. This Mobile KJ unit is so popular one might only get to sing one song. This is not worth it to me to drive, bike, or bus across town to sing one song. Hey, but if singing is not that important to you trend is by all means the song list is worth checking out. Oh and BTW their jar comes with a sign that recommends that the singer pay at least a dollar per track that one sings. Doesn’t the venue pay the KJ’s anymore? I understand tips but this makes one feel that it is expected. I would visit Ketten again but just not on a regular basis. I like to sing at least 4 – 6 tracks per night. Again… love the song list.

Best. Karaōke. In Town. Do you want to sing that new Miley Cyrus song that just came out? Lord knows I do. How about that viral video song Bed Intruder aka. Hide Yo Kids, Hide Yo Wife. What about the B-Side to your favorite Smashing Pumpkins song that no place EVER has. Well think again, they have it. They have it all! The mastermind behind Baby Ketten Karaōke creates all the songs. As soon as a song drops — he’s got it. Full albums of obscure bands, he’s got that too. The song list is extensive. Dig deep into your wildest Karaōke dreams. Baby Ketten Karaōke is all over town. He has a few stable nights around town such as Tuesday at Mississippi Pizza, Saturday at Double Dragon. When in doubt check the Facebook page for updates. People have caught wind of this greatness and they show up in troves. The wait for you’re song will be long so just come knowing that and kick back some liquid courage while you wait. And don’t sing Bohemian Rhapsody… you think it’s a good idea but it’s not. I promise.
