Beer City Bottle Shop

Super cool find! I got to try a can of Huckleberry Cream Ale by Laughing Dog Brewing out of Ponderay, Idaho for only $ 3!
I will definitely be back again.

ATMOSPHERE:
Nice wood bar and tables, decent music (not the classic rock hits that so many Portland bars play), nice art on walls (some permanent, some rotating local-​artist work for sale). Comfortable place to sit and sip, and an interesting neighborhood. Not perfect, but far above average.
If you’ve been to Tin Bucket, that’s a good reference point. Beer City is a remarkably similar arrangement. Sure, there are differences, but the two establishments are about as similar as a set of twins.
SERVICE:
Pleasant. Hard to evaluate because the place wasn’t busy. But generally, well done.
FOOD:
Menu looked a bit uninspired, so I stuck to beer.
BEER:
A bit pedestrian. They’re apparently more interested in creating a nice place to hang out, rather than a source for great beer. Nothing wrong with that, but I’d rather go to a dive that serves great beer (belmont station, saraveza, etc). Not that Beer City is pouring garbage; I’m just saying you won’t see much of anything really exciting here. Bottle selection is about the same. Sad to say, I suspect I could find more interesting products at my local Fred Meyer.
PRESENTATION:
Odd sampler tray, but hey, at least it was unique.
PRICE/​VALUE:
Flat pricing, $ 5 each. If you order something special, it might come in a smaller glass (12oz). Sampler tray is a very good deal (6 for $ 8).
OVERALL:
Wish I could be more enthusiastic. There’s obviously some effort expended here. I think this would be a fun place to come with a small group of casual beer drinkers, but Beer City just doesn’t offer enough to get on my repeat-​business list.

I don’t know how long the growler craze has been going on, but it’s brought some very cool businesses into the city. Beef City Bottle Shop boasts not only a large variety of wine and beer bottles, but a great tap selection to drink in-​house or take home in a growler. They also have a food menu (though I would just go to the food carts across the street), and frequent customers benefit from a punch card reward system.
Cool business, nice staff. Definitely check it out.

Happened upon this cool taproom and bottle shop on the totally happening Mississippi Ave during our recent vacation to Portland. The owner is delightful and told us the story of how she opened six months ago and what she is hoping to create and provide for the community… she was very knowledgeable and helped us select a delicious sour beer which was crisp and refreshing on the 92° weather day! We definitely plan to visit her again on our next trip to Portland!

This is a nice place. Friendly, cool, personable staff. Convenient/​fun neighborhood. Great selection of beers on tap. A plentiful selection of bottles behind the case. Amazing music playing. I mean, why wouldn’t you come here? Super deals on growlers. Irish people, the growlers are for putting drinks in, not, ya know, anything else ;-)

Once I realized how much closer this bottle shop is than the nearest grocery store, it quickly became my go to place to pick up a beer or two on my way home. I’ve stopped in a few times to pick up a beer or six pack to just take home with me. Their selection is small but really well curated with a wide selection of beers plus their prices are really great. We finally stayed to have a draft beer yesterday and had the best time. Everyone who frequents the shop is incredibly nice and their staff is great. We’re new to town so to find a place as welcoming as this one is really a treat. I can’t say enough good things about Beer City Bottle Shop. Check it out!

Great staff in a great location. They have a wide variety of beers and ciders on tap at great prices. Free popcorn also helps. Staff is knowledgeable on their beers. I will come back again. Thanks!
