I first visited Curious Comedy Theater for a Unilocal Elite event, and I had such a great time I decided to go in for a followup visit with my parents when they were visiting from out of town. We had a great time yet again, and laughed most of the way through the performance. This is a great value for a comedy night out. I’ll certainly be back.

Amazing comedy. I will be back to sign up for class. The recession special made me warm and fuzzy as well.

This was such an awesome date night venue! We went for the showdown and both my date and I were cracking up to the point of sore jaws and six packs. The«players» were very interactive with the crowd and it felt like everyone in the room had a friendly vibe. Super fun time and we can’t wait to go back!

If you’re in the mood to laugh and then go to curious comedy club. I enjoyed their skits improv and stand up. Somewhat clean but still edgy they mix it up and have a great attitude. Also we sat in the front and we didn’t get heckled. definitely go back sometime.

Curious comedy theater needs to be up front and honest that they censor comedians. An open mic comedian told a bad deliverance rape joke– a man on man rape joke– and they cut his mike and threw him off stage. It was a bad joke– but to watch them act that way is appalling. I can’t support anyone who censors comedians. The girl even said she was mad as one of the only women there– which is wierd it was a man raping man joke. I double checked with the sound guy and yes he assured me it was a safe space and some jokes can’t be told here. So you guys know I was in New York for 9⁄11 and so you should censor every bad 9⁄11 joke also. Also a dog was joked about being raped earlier also a dog being fucked by man to death. I have been to non-open mic here and have been coming to the open mic for two months– my only regret is paying them and donating money to them. We were planning to go to the Christmas thing next week end but no way I would rather drive another twenty miles or stop going to comedy then see your shorty censored comedy. If you censor at the very least write it first thing on your website; your Unilocal; and your Facebook banner. Needless to say me and my friends won’t be coming back to this«safe space». Comedy theater.

My wife and I came here with a Groupon to see their show Pipes. We felt the improv that was done in the first half of the show prior to the musical was much better than the musical itself. Comedy is rather hit or miss and I think the musical itself was a big miss for us. Overall I think the rest of the audience enjoyed it though(although we noticed a few other tables not really enjoying it so much too).

This was my second time visiting Curious Comedy Theater and I enjoyed my visit. This time we came for the earlier show. I think it may be a little over priced at $ 15 a ticket, $ 10 might be more appropriate, but that said, it was still a lot of fun. Drinks were yummy! We ordered the hummus plate and it was really tasty! I would go back again, but perhaps just hit up the 10 pm show because I feel the value is greater.

This place is super awesome and so much fun. Great entertainment to come back to again and again. Include it in your Portland haunts, always something new to take in. If you’re visiting the city, it’s a great way to get a taste of the city and the local culture. Well done Curious!

Curious Comedy Theater exceeded my expectations. The space is intimate yet inviting, and they serve drinks & gourmet appetizers. The staff is incredibly helpful, and it’s evident that they enjoy their work. The actors performed«Pipes» a musical improv. It’s refreshing to sit and enjoy some unscripted, mostly-clean humor. Each of the five performers took a suggestion from the audience, and they share great performance chemistry. The fact that it is a non-profit organization really impressed me.

Don’t think about it, just go! Side splittingly funny, tasty snacks and the drinks aren’t bad either. One of my best Portland experiences, we will definitely be going back.

They have Bulleit Bourbon, so the establishment has immediately found a fan in me. We went on Sunday to watch open mic in which you find performers trying out new material or folks’ first time after taking a class. In my head, I pretend the artist is a co-worker working on their hobby craft. Result? No side-eye with critique-free support for someone’s pursuit. Clap, clap. Also, bourbon.

The following is a review I wrote after experiencing disappointment with the organization. After it’s posting, I was contacted for more feedback. I was informed about administrative steps being taken to support the rapidly growing organization, Curious Comedy. I was thanked for my feedback and was even given some pointers on where to get involved with improv in my new town. Impressed with how a complaint was handled. Consider review below as resolved. This review is based on participating in classes, and not on the performances themselves. I took two sessions of improv, level one and level two. My classmates were all encouraging and made the experience very worthwhile. The instructors were knowledgeable, fun and energetic. My problem with the organization is just that — the lack of organization. Often as students we were told to email the Programs Director if we needed a payment issue resolved, had questions about what level to start in or to continue into next. The Programs Director takes typically about two weeks to respond, and often not with any answers, just states the protocol when your questions related to something more specific. I love attending shows here, and enjoyed taking classes. But when the lack of communication makes it hard for me to initiate payment to take classes, I get discouraged. Students pay $ 175-$ 195 for seven weeks of classes to this non-profit theatre. I would assume that securing continued enrollment would be a desire of the organization, however the behavior of the management would prove otherwise. As a student, you don’t feel your enrollment is particularly valued. Often the rules are not set in stone — a peer of mine with questions on paying never received an answer and ended up taking a course of improv completely free. Another who wanted to pay half in volunteer work(a precedent set with Curious Comedy) didn’t receive an answer for two weeks when classes had already started, and even then the answer was ill-informed. Which in itself is puzzling, because this friend’s instructor is married to the Programs Director. You would think there would be time enough for conversations about students. If you value taking classes with motivated peers, Curious Comedy hits the mark every time. If you want to feel valued as a student, and receive timely feedback when you have questions, perhaps seek a venue that is more dedicated to it’s students.

Came here for an event with my date. The food was great! Nice selection of beverages… Nice roomie atmosphere, good acustics, and a really funny show that got everyone in the audience involved. Great work. Would love to come back!

I came with my partner for a performance of Pipes, the fully improvised musical. It was incredible!!! Improv can be so hit or miss. I’ve seen some pretty grimace-worthy improv in my time. But Pipes was spot on. They nailed it! Laugh out loud, overboard funny. I will definitely come back again. The place was very neat, bathroom was clean, staff were friendly and outgoing. Honestly, when we left I found myself asking, «Why don’t we come here all the time??» The stress release of two hours of laughter was probably worth $ 500! It felt so good to just relax and let them take us on a crazy, hilarious ride.

More people need to go here. This is the proverbial hot bed of comedy. The shows are great and cheap. The Sunday night open mic is a chance to watch up and coming comics workout new material(the good bad and painful). Full bar and menu of well prepared items that will not consume your wallet.

It is my New Years Resolution to do Stand Up. Have I done it… no. Did Curious Comedy help inch me in the right direction? Absolutely. I decided I’d start small by dipping my toe in the improv water. Or maybe it was all a stalling technique? Any-hoo! I signed right up for Beginners Improv classes. Day one of class I nearly doubled over with panic and began devising plans to get my tuition money back and get the hell out of there. However, after a few exercises I decided I’d see it though and I’m happy I did. Improv for beginners is 8 weeks. At the end you have a recital of sort with the other class levels which is a great way to end. The instructor is a hoot and she did a great job at making the class feel comfortable. The format they teach you in the beginners class is very open and easy to follow. Yes and… it just gets you more comfortable being on stage and working with others. My biggest and most surprising take away from class was learning to be more present and in the moment. None of that being in your head stuff which is normally where I’m at! If nothing else, that’s a great take away. I don’t think improv is my thing, but I do plan to go on to take their Stand Up Classes. I have a resolution to uphold! In addition to being a great resource for classes they have all sorts of fun shows. Every third Thursday they have Open Court which is basically drop in improv that is open to the public, experienced and newbies alike. If you’re curious to get started in improv Curious Comedy should be your first stop. It’s a safe and fun environment to learn. More of an appreciator of the arts than a participant? Check out one of their shows. It’s a non-profit so your ticket price is for a good cause, and you’ll see some wacky ass shit. Giggles are guaranteed.

We went to Curious Comedy Stand Up Showcase — the website says both 9:45 and 10:00pm start times — we were out of there by 10:45 — which seems really short(although to be fair, the tickets were only $ 5). It was improv — and our crowd was really appreciative that it was kept PG(maybe PG13) — I don’t like the really explicit comedy that I’ve seen at some places and was concerned going this time of night it would be pretty blue… Nice house, I think the other shows are probably a better representation of what they do. Probably not worth a stop on it’s own.
