Schouvi is AMAZING! I love her omg! I made an appointment with her ahead of time, and she is just fabulous! I went in to cut off 11 inches of my hair to donate, and she made sure to clarify everything with me ahead of time. She listened well, and totally did the simple style that I wanted. She is so kind, easy to talk to, and I felt like I knew her for years! She has a beautiful, unique style of her own, and she is just lovely!
As for the environment, it has a calm and comfortable ambiante, with local paintings on the wall, your traditional waiting area with magazines, and hair products for sale. The parking is not that great because it is located right on Hawthorne Blvd; however, my appointment was at noon on a Monday, and there were numerous parking spots on the street available. :)

Big «Thanks!!» to Kim for taking on my rat’s nest that had not had a real haircut in maybe a year plus? I am not really a girly-​girl or very fussy. Kim made me feel «at home» and made me feel pretty. I left there not only with a great haircut but just feeling uplifted. It was AWESOME! My cut is GREAT, well-​done, perfect for the texture of my hair (which is quite fine). I will definitely be back. THANK YOU Cutting Crew. :-)

I walked into this place because it was right across the street from where I was eating lunch. I have half the side of my head shaved and just needed a simple trim. The guy cutting my hair wouldn’t stop bragging about his attention to detail but gave me an uneven splotchy buzz and left long hairs along my part. Disappointing.

This was my fifth time getting my hair done at Cutting Crew just this year. I started going here again when i moved back to SE. I usually have a good experience here regardless of who does my hair and i like how affordable it is. I went yesterday, for a trim this time, and Jeff went crazy with the scissors. He added short layers, cutting up to six inches or more in some areas. He even said himself before he started that the ends didn’t look that bad so I’m not sure why he cut them so short. He cut pieces to above my ear that were down to my shoulders. Healthy hair. Now my cowlick is back in action after I have been careful to grow it out. I didn’t think of warning him because it was long enough and i was only requesting a trim. He knows I’m not happy with it but doesn’t seem to care too much. He didn’t apologize but he said he could try to fix it. I don’t want anymore hair cut so there isn’t much we can do. I’m very frustrated.

Got my hair cut by Jeff. More cutting than the shears was his sarcasm. I doubled the price of my haircut and left it as a tip. Still cheap, regardless.

My favorite hair genius is now working at Cutting Crew and I have to say it’s an awesome space! Comfy, cool, full of character, and right on Hawthorn!

It is really shocking how well these people cut hair for $ 30. I didn’t expect such expert skills. Will definitely go back.

I loved getting my hair cut here! Jeff was great and has been in the business for at least 20 years. He gave me some sweet layers and was funny and nice to talk to!

LOVE IT! Go see Laura Siffrin! I’ve had a vision of what I want my hair to look like and have brought pictures in and no one’s been able to get it spot on. When Laura first worked on my hair it took 5hrs! She took one look at the picture I brought in and was honest about having to do a color correction on my hair and that it would be a lengthy transaction but she can do it! I could not believe that she made it happen, good hair always gives me the confidence I need and the prices was right! I’ve gotten so many compliments, I’ve been coloring my hair since I was 15… and seen many different stylists! Laura’s one of the best! Luv her work!

The first time I went to Cutting Crew I had a great experience with Asia. She cut the hair as I wanted and the price was reasonable.
The second time Asia was not working at Cutting Crew anymore so I went with Jeff. He was talking with the other people all the time and almost not paying attention at what he was doing and taking forever to cut my hair. The cut was quite simple (just trimming) and he charged $ 30

She performed utter hair color magic on me. I wanted purple, yeah, purple which isn’t in the normal range of colors most stylists know how to do. And no, I didn’t want bleach to touch my hair nor get a raw or manic panic look but something a little more adult.
It took 2 different days because I needed a better base color to build upon but we got it! My previous ‘colors’ weren’t anything that you’d consider color. It was a hot mess of ash green based browns, copper reds, brass blonds and the strands didn’t match from root to tip plus grow-​out which were mostly two other stylists down the roads fault (at two different salons). Aja was able to uniformly blend a base color and yet still give it depth which I wanted. For a punk rocker she has some serious high-​end capabilities.

I looked at my kids after a sweaty workout at DoJump today, and realized that they were in major need of a haircut. I knew that cutting crew was across the street and decided to walk on in.
They took my sweaty, shaggy haired boys and listened to their individual hairdo needs, (one wanted to look like a super hero, one wanted to look like Johnny Test) and went to town. Both boys got great cuts and there were no tears. I would recommend for adults and kids alike. Great service and employees.

Hair Goddess Mercedes saved the day!
I meant to write this review a couple months ago… After years of not-​so-​great haircuts by various stylists at a local joint I decided to try someplace new based on Unilocal reviews. My list of possibilities included Cutting Crew, but like an idiot, I went to the other place I happened to call first. I ended up with a just OK haircut and a color job from hell– seriously, I looked like I had a calico cat on my head! The guy did it on purpose and was actually proud of his work, telling me that what I wanted to have done instead was a bad idea! He then rushed me out of his shop and sent me on my way.
Keep in mind I had just started a new job and was expected to go to a seminar with my new boss the next day. I was devastated. I sat in my car looking at my hair from hell for a good 5 minutes and then made up my mind. I drove straight to Cutting Crew, where I should have gone in the first place.
It was a half hour before their closing time but Mercedes decided to stay after and fix my hair, even at the risk of running late to meet her other friends for a concert. About 3 hours, a new cut, some bleaching and 4 batches of dye later, Mercedes created sheer awesomeness based on what I had wanted to do in the first place!
I’m heading back to see Mercedes ASAP– even after a couple months and over an inch of grow out, my awesome cut has kept its shape and is super easy to style. Hands down the best cut I’ve had! Thanks, Mercedes!!!

I recently started going to Cutting Crew and Jeff has been giving me cuts and color. He does a great job, and understands the lost art of the heavy fade up to pompadour that greasy guys like me dig. Other places end up making you look like you just joined the Marines. I always get compliments about how sharp my hair looks after I get cleaned up. I really cant beat the service and the great price at Cutting Crew.

Have to give a shout-​out to Mercedes, who gave a girl with a «I should be 40 years old with two kids and a mini-​van and an addiction to the atkins diet» haircut a «I am 27 years old and I may be having a conservative job with old fuddy-​duddies who have bowties but I can play a mean song and I like to go out to bars» haircut.
I didn’t give her much guidance, she was like «Hey, what do you want?» In that kind of hopeful way that hairdressers have when they have a dream of clients who are actually educated about hair and I said, «I want a funky haircut that I can keep in a ponytail» and that’s it.
And she gave me my best haircut in years. Seriously. Amaazing.

I walked in, was offered a beer and got a great haircut. Not much more need to be said. Theres a fear album on the wall. Are you people fucking listening? Beer, good haircut and Lee Ving. If you can’t find to positives in that just keep walking past as I’m sure the dollar scholar has something flashy there to catch your attention.
Oh, Mercedes cut my darth vader like hair helmet down to a more manageable state. bravo!

Cutting Crew is great, everyone is talented and fun.

He has cut my hair back in 2000, i went away in 01, came back in 09.

He does even better than last time and does «not» do stuff to your hair that you don’t ask for…

I read this review and also chose to go to with Mike, although the others could be just as good. oh and the girls are nice to look at. Anyway, Mike always provides for good conversation, wants to know how you’ve been, and is responsive to your request.
Great prices (cheaper than Bishops), friendly, good atmosphere, parking isn’t easy but hey that’s Hawthorne.
Cutting Crew pretty much rocks

I recently got a haircut and was attended in an ackward way. Not sure if they really don’t get my kind in there but that wasn’t going to stop me. The place seemed like they already have their regulars and the vibe seemed great for a headbanger. It’s sort of a surreal place where these hardcore tattoed boys and girls provide highlights to customers so they can look ‘pretty’.
I don’t remember the lady’s name but she was a little overweight she was okay. She either just graduated from Cosmo school or she really wanted to do a great job. My cut was decent with the left side having more hair than the other. Not sure if $ 25 for a guys haircut is affordable but it’s too much for so little trimmings. I’ll keep exploring elswhere.
