This is my go-​to knit shop on the west side. The staff is friendly, the shop is cute and cozy, and the selection is good but not overwhelming.
There isn’t quite the variety of needles I would like, but they certainly have the bases covered.
Check the sale area to the left of the register whenever you go — one never knows what treasures may be hidden in the bins.

Dublin Bay is by far my most favorite yarn shop in PDX. This shop offers their own line of Solstice yarns which is to die for! You can find gorgeous Irish yarns and tweeds also. They carry most major brands of yarns too. The shop is just lovely, it’s very upscale!

Lovely shop on the edge of the Pearl District. Great selection, easy to look over the choices, great staff to chat with to get info. Must stop there.

While trying to find my son a playground of sorts after the long drive in from Seattle we managed to park right across the street from Dublin Bay. Ironically, I’m scheduled to take my first private knitting lessons at home in a week so I had hoped to get some (tax free!) class materials while I was in town. (My husband, by the way, does not find it ironic that we parked right across the street from here!).
There must have been some event going on — there were ladies with papers and stamps and they had a veggie tray and cookies laid out. My son enjoyed himself a little chocolate chip mini scone while I looked around. Everyone was super nice to my son and he can be a bit of a troublemaker, so I’m always thankful when 1) he doesn’t pull everything off the shelf or 2) they are so nice that they don’t seem to mind that he has pulled everything off the shelf.
The store is nicely laid out with lots of room to walk around. It’s not one of those wall to wall, packed to the top kind of places. I like that it was open. They also had a couch and coffee table — I assume that’s a gathering/​knitting area. It was clean — as was the bathroom (Yes, this matters to me as I had been on the road for over 3 hours to get to Portland.).
A very nice sales lady helped me pick out some materials for my class. She also showed me where all the good reference books were. I ended up getting the yarn and needles, but not the books since it just seemed so overwhelming flipping through them. I did, however, get a boost of confidence leaving the store after being old that yes — I can do this knitting thing — and in a few months or so of just believing in myself (okay, and practice) that I would totally be able to knit a little something for that mischievous son of mine :)
I can’t comment on price as far as high or low, but for two skeins (I think that’s how they are referred to) and a set of needles I paid about $ 48. Since I’ve read reviews that mention the quality of goods here tends to be on the nicer end and I’m also an avid seamstress, the price seemed reasonable enough to me. If there is one thing I’ve learned when crafting it is to get the good stuff. It makes a *huge* difference.
BTW, they also ship to anywhere in the US for reasonable rates. If you like the stuff, you can get it even when you’re at home!

The lazy clerk was rude and didn’t even ask if we needed help. The store was empty of customers and your yarn selection is not that great. I. Like close knit in n pax alt better. When I made my purchases the lazy clerk wouldn’t even get off her ass to get my stuff to ring up. She proceeds to drop them and laughs as she gets to sit there and knit while getting paid. That’s fine but at least get off your ass. You deserve to have a big one !

A standard LYS (local yarn shop). Ridiculously friendly and helpful staff, great selection, high prices, and a solid collection of knitting books and notions you didn’t know you needed until you saw them on the shelf.
The owner (?) helped me pick out the perfect yarn to knit my dog a sweater/​dress. (Shut up – she gets cold!) i picked out too much yarn and the assistant told me I probably only needed one skein, not three, which was honest and helpful.
Tip: sign up for supportland. Incentives to shop locally, including at this store.

Great selection of yarn — mostly on the pricier side but they did have some more economical choices as well. Some of the yarns were unusual brands I had not seen anywhere before. The store is laid out by brand mostly, so be sure to ask for help if you are looking for a specific weight or fiber. They carry lots of books and magazines, and I also saw several interesting individual patterns as well.
What impressed me the most was how helpful the staff were. The lady in the shop while I was browsing took a lot of time to walk a customer through picking a gift for a knitter and another through good beginner projects and how to get started knitting. Very personal attention and super nice! They also offer one on one knitting lessons for $ 10/​hour, which is a great deal. I’ll be back next time I’m coming through Portland.

I love this store! While visiting Portland, I was staying in the Pearl District at the corner of 14^th and Marshall, and I didn’t even realize how close this store was to my rental apartment!
Dublin Bay Knitting Company is a very nicely spaced, comfortable store. They carry high end brands like Handmaiden and Lorna’s Laces. But most importantly, they dye their own Solstice brand of yarn.
Beautiful, yummy colorways… I went a little crazy and bought 4 hanks of Solstice Luna Sport. Tres expensive… but I will love working with this merino, nylon, cashmere blend. And I think 4 hanks will be enough for me to make a cute top or short-​sleeved sweater.

I love a great knit shop… call me a «yarn snob» if you will…
When you spend many hours on end, countless nights and days creating a one of a kind, spectacular garment, you want and should have it created with the best threads you can find.
Dublin, has just that!
A very friendly staffed yarn store they are, unlike some of their neighbors in town. They are very welcoming and helpful. Some of the other knit shops around Ptown have a pretentious attitude about yarn and such– give them any little hint that you are a beginner or don’t know your gauges from your a**, and they flip you tude and leave you pondering wtf just happened?
Not at Dublin though. have an emergency with dropped stitches, or how to figure out if you can swap one yarn for another on the project you just can’t live without? Yes, they will help!
The store is laid out very nicely, no guessing on where the Sock yarn is or the Chunky wool for your scarf project. Needles… they have loads of them too, and all the fun little tools and gadgets to go with! Books and patterns galore… and a nice cozy area to come in and relax with your knitting.
Dublin is one of the much nicer yarn stores in the Portland area for sure!

So I came in with a baby blanket – or rather pieces of what will eventually be a baby blanket and lots of questions about bulky green yarn.
There were two ladies working the day I came in and both were very happy to discuss the various qualities of the green bulky yarn that they sold. One of them even came up and showed me personally what she thought were the best yarns for my project.
I ended up going with three yarns that she suggested and am nearly down with my blanket now!
This shop isn’t really close by my house but when I am in the area I will definitely be stopping in and you should too!

This store was fine. Nothing super spectacular about it although they did carry Spud and Chloe. I would have liked to see more of the line with more pattern support. It was really quiet when my friend and I went in. It was the only knit shop that I visited in Portland that I didn’t buy anything in. I guess it wasn’t my scene. Nothing bad to say about them really.

I love the interior design of the shop. Wooden floor, comfy couches, well organized yarn, great selection of books. The staff is amazing too. Always so friendly and helpful.
The yarn is more on the expensive side but great quality.
I’ve set up a 1 on 1 help session and the girl there saved my project :)
They were really open to my friends and I hosting knitting club there.
I’m glad that my pup is allowed there too.

I have been in this store twice now, the first time I was with a friend who knew what she wanted and is what I would say an expert in all things yarn. The service was horrible and the staff totally rude. The women who worked there were cold and not even slightly nice from a customer perspective. I was a bit taken aback by their attitude but shrugged it off and didn’t think much of it since I wasn’t buying anything.
Well I went back to this store (due to location only) to look for some yarn I wanted for an extremely random craft project. I was the only person in the store on a weekend day, I immediately felt like I was interrupting. The two women were completely unhelpful for my project to the point of telling me I was wrong. Sometimes I get it, it really is a random craft project I had but what do they care?! If I fail it’s my money, they should have just given their opinion and not been so judgmental about it. I NEVER write reviews (for better or worse) on Unilocal but I felt so ridiculed for going into this shop and having a random question that I felt like I had to voice my opinion.
Many people may have had a great experience there, I personally did not. If I hadn’t lost the receipt I would return my overpriced $ 7 yarn and stick to the stores that actually have customer service.

Stopped in while visiting Portland. Very nice, concise store of yarns mostly from the UK. Store clerk was sweet and friendly, offering to send me to another store for what wasn’t carried there. Hedgehog buttons, Fleece Artist Sock yarn and Addi Lace needles. Thank you!

This is a very nice, friendly shop with really helpful folks behind the counter. They carry a wide range of yarns that fit every price point. The space is open and well lit, cozy, comfy and well organized. Parking can be tricky for some, but I usually find a spot on the street within a block or so.

I love the people at this shop. They are always so helpful and kind. I love the selection of sea silk. You can find literally any type of yarn that you need, and prices are decent too.
I love their little gifts for knitters too, especially the sheep cards.

Worth driving around and around trying to find this gem of a shop. A friend and I were unexpectedly downtown with nothing we had to do so we decided to visit a few places and Dublin Bay was on our list.
The thing is, neither of us has a handy dandy phone with Internet so we had to find it the old fashioned way, we asked. We were told, oh, it’s right by Jamieson Square. Well, round and round we went working our way out from said square. Finally we found it, it’s really at the edge of the world, if your world is the Pearl District. One more block and you’d fall off.
We stepped through the magic doors and realized within a moment that we never wanted to leave. Beautiful yarn, comfortable feeling and seating area, great displays, pleasant. Plus the owner and staff were sweet, helpful, and generous. If I lived closer I’d probably make it my new home away from home.

My favorite knitting shop in the state of Oregon, because of the friendly service, knowledgeable staff, and a great selection of reasonably priced yarn.
I purchased yarn at Knit/​Purl and Dublin let me use their loom, it really made my day. Simply great service and earn beyond the five star Unilocal gives.
Once a month you can bring your own food, movie, etc. and knit with others or with friends. Superb service without a doubt.

A colorful paradise for knitters
At first when I saw a new shop open on the street level of my apartment building in the Pearl, I have to admit that I sighed. I wondered why a knitting shop of all businesses was opening up in my neighborhood. That is, until I walked into Dublin Bay Knitting Company and my wonder turned to awe.
Whether you’re an accomplished knitter, want to learn or give a knitter some gorgeous yarns, this is the place. Just walking around and seeing all the vibrant colors and knitted outfits for babies made me want to sit down and learn in the lounge. That’s right, there’s a knitting lounge — the coolest part of the shop, where you can sit and chat with other knitters and have a cup of a coffee. What a great idea for a rainy day! And if you don’t know how to knit, they offer classes.
Along with an array of colorful soft yarns, Dublin Bay also sells unique cases and needles. This is indeed a feast for knitters.
Tip: Metered parking out front is typically full on 11^th Avenue, so drive up side street Overton where you’ll likely find a spot and not have to feed a meter.
