Great pies to eat in or collect. Instead of relying on hit and miss delivery options in the Pearl, I dial in a whole pie order — customise the cheese pizza as I like — and pick it up 20 minutes later. Delicious toppings, tasty sauce and a good chewy but crispy crust. Sausage, pepper, mushroom, pineapple is a winner

There are only so many places in Nob Hill that won’t judge you for showing up covered in plaster dust and paint, ravenous from hours of incredibly mess DIY home renovations. This is one, and I certainly appreciate it. We’ve grabbed pizza here countless times since buying a dated condo around the corner and proceeding to rip it apart and put it back together. It’s the go-to when we’re hungry/exhausted at 9ish PM, even now that the serious construction is finished. The vegetarian toppings aren’t quite amazing. I usually go with plain cheese. It’s always reliable and delicious, though, and fairly priced, the combo of which is pretty hard to find in PDX. And those large pours of beer are pretty fantastic, too.

Love this place! Like home. Friendly service and great pizza. Classic music, a bonus. Not Classic, like Bach. Classic, like awesome. Thanks!

NY slices in a spot on NY style space. Most NYC places don’t sell craft beer on tap but I’ll forgive that upgrade. The fresh pies are beautiful. Goobs of fresh mozzarella, thin crispy crust and a sweet yet acidic sauce. For slice purists, this is the best.

One of my favorite pizza places in Portland. Closest thing I’ve found to good, east coast– styled pizza. The crust is the perfect combination of soft but sturdy with a flavorful sauce and cheese that produces just the right amount of that glorious pizza grease. It’s a fun environment with great staff and is affordable whether you’re alone, bringing friends or on a date. This is where you go if you want a good, solid slice of classic pizza.

Solid New York style Pizza with a classic slice of New York setting. Staff is not friendly or unfriendly which is how getting a slice of New York should be. Order what you want, it gets heated up and you enjoy the deliciousness. A key plus for me is they got to my order quickly. It was 6pm with 4 people ahead of me and it took less than 5 minutes for me to get my order in. I ordered take out and I like that they spent the extra time to really heat up the slice as well as package it to retain heat. Did it matter I had to wait 5 minutes for it? No, because it was the right thing to do. By the time I got to eating that slice 20 minutes later it was still a nice toasty temperature.

Really good NYC type pizza in Portland. The dude that took our order looked like an older version of Jerry Garcia, so that was cool.

No question but Escape has damn good pizza(I should know since I’m from Jersey!) I had a whole medium cheese for $ 17.+(with a cider it came to over $ 21.) I guess I’m spoiled with prices since I’ve been going to Vietnam frequently — where I can get an excellent pizza for under $ 5.(or half price with a coupon). I think we have a problem with pizza(and Italian food in general) in Oregon — too many many many mediocre places around. Escape could keep the place just a little cleaner, by the way.

The best pizza I ever tasted hands down. Quality is amazing and fresh. You get a big slice for a cheap price.

Don’t listen to the bad reviews, yes it’s a small place but who from NY isn’t used to that. Been on the west coast for 4 yrs now when your craving some good old fashion NY style pizza THISISTHEPLACE!!! Smaller selection of toppings than us New Yorkers are used to but they have mushroom and olive, pepperoni, Hawaiian and cheese. Not sure if it changes day by day but definitely hits the spot!

BESTPIZZAINPORTLAND! I had the caesar salad and a slice of veggie pizza– the salad was good but I really enjoyed the pizza a lot! My husband, who’s from NY ordered 2 slices of pepperoni pizza and a beer, said this was the real thing. This will be our go-to pizza place from now on! So glad we finally found EFNY Pizza! Enjoy the pizza, count on but ignore the NY attitude. ;)

This place is terrible and the people are INCREDIBLYRUDE. I witnessed an altercation there on Mother’s Day(!) where the owner or manager was cussing at a young family for apparently sitting in their chair out on the sidewalk. It’s fine to ask someone to move, but screaming and cussing at a young mother unprovoked in front of her toddler is NOTACCEPTABLE. DONOT take your family there, I think these people may actually be crazy. Like, WHOA.

I was told by a co worker from New York that I had to go to this place while visiting Portland. Now disclaimer, I’ve never been to New York. But this pizza was so good! With price less than $ 5 a piece I think it’s worth every dollar! There was three already prepared pies to choose from. Cheese, pepperoni, combo and my personal favorite Hawaiian. They heat the pizza in front of you. Now if you want one whole to yourself they will make one for you too! Small dinning area inside and the service was good.

Good pizza but not great pizza. Ordered a medium cheese and pepperoni to go the other day which took them less than 20 minutes. Bummer about their service though. I called in ahead of time and the guy on the phone was super rude for no reason… this was also the second time we called in and customer service was just awful. On a good note, the pizza slices are huge and and for roughly $ 3.50 a slice or about 15 bucks for a medium — which is like a large at a chain — there’s not much you can complain about here.

Portland hosts the splendor of Escape from New York Pizza. This is a very typical joint, yet the cozy feel tends to bode well with the Alphabet District. There are a few kinds of pizza and many kinds of beverages. Plenty of seating is available. It was nice to go here. For about five and a half dollars, I had a pizza and a soda. The pizza was rich in flavor. It was made with the love. Still, I tend to think of reviews as a dissertation and some pizza is two dollars such as from CostCo. It’s better but not twice as better. Join rather than escape this place.

Not bad, not bad. Huge slices of pizza! I really like their pepperoni and ginger ale they have there. Their types of pizza are kind of limited but they’ll usually have cheese, pepperoni, and green pepper/mushroom/onion. You can also buy a whole pizza there, just make sure you phone it in early especially on the weekends. It’s very old school inside as well, their cash register was super cool to me!

Still, after all these years, one of the best pizza slices in all of Portland! Cash only, gritty, New York style pizza shop on NW23rd. Hand tossed dough, thin crust, chewy with that perfect little bit of crunch. Toppings are standard fare, with a nice mild sauce and heaps of mozzarella cheese. A very satisfying quick stop for a slice or two in Nob Hill.

As a native New Yorker I am very picky with my pizza. There is a lot of mediocre bread with tomato sauce and cheese that tries to pass as pizza and fails miserably… but that is not the case at Escape From New York Pizza. When you walk in it feels as if you have been transported to some 1970’s-ish pizza place in Brooklyn. It even has that old school feel with the black and white tiles on the floor and red topped chairs and stools next to a small counter where you can eat. There are a few tables in the place but nothing that will seat any more than four people. The table tops and counters are green further adding to the Italian color theme. In the back of the wall is the flag of Portland and the the flag of the city of New York. There is some strange art on the wall and lots of stickers as well as some banknotes from foreign countries. Whenever I come here I get a plain cheese slice because it is a kind of comfort food for me and the taste reminds me of my childhood back in NYC! The pizza is inexpensive and was served at the perfect temperature. It’s not too hot that it burns your mouth which I like. There is an appropriate temperature to serve your pizza and this place has it down! It’s a small place but it’s a «slice» of NYC in Portland and well with a visit if you haven’t been. I always try to come before or after the lunch rush so I can sit at the counter and eat my pizza as I did when I was a boy. They also have a condiments section with Parmesan, garlic powder and crushed red pepper flakes and oregano. I usually put garlic powder and red pepper flakes on it like my grandma used to do. Thanks for helping to keep my childhood memories alive. Eating your pizza made me smile and feel good!

It is great to have an cheap option to get a quick meal on 23rd. The shop is unique with lots of New York memorabilia much of which has seen better days. The pizza is available by the pie or slice. It is the best NYC style pizza I have had in Portland. The sauce is good, the crust is just what I would expect in NYC. It is a good slice. A few notes. The employees have all been there forever. The line moves very fast. Most seating is at a counter along the wall.

As an east coast girl, I have very high pizza standards. I too, escaped from New York for the city of beer and cheaper rent. Thankfully, Escape from New York lives up to its name, and my pizza cravings are fully satisfied on the west coast as well. We usually order a pie with pepperoni, peppers, and onions — a truly magical combination that I highly recommend. However, I’m sure you’ll be satisfied with whatever topping your palate craves. The crust and sauce are really what matters, and both are awesome here. Chewy, tasty, and really just perfect. There is some seating inside and outside — nothing fancy, just a traditional NYC pizza shop vibe. One drawback is they don’t deliver, but I guess that isn’t as necessary in a city where everyone drives cars(or can strap a pie on to a bike rack — something I’ve proudly done!) There are so many things I miss about New York, pizza being one of them, but I sure am glad I can get my cheesy indulgent fix whenever needed.
