Footwise

These folks may have had trouble in the past… but no more! My hubby and I both got awesome, thoughtful, patient and cheerful service — plus 2 new pairs of awesome sandals — today! I took forever to pick a color, it had to have been annoying to more than just my husband ;). But they were nothing but mellow and helpful. Great place!

I am a picky, picky shoe consumer and I hate when sales staff hovers over me. That being said, this was one of the best shoe shopping experiences I’ve had in a while. Sofia was nice and helpful, but not overbearing by any means. It takes a lot for me to drop 100+ on a pair of shoes, so it was a relief when they said that I could take a pair home and wear them around the house, and if I wanted a different pair/​size I could bring them back. That’s what I ended up doing, as the first pair was a bit too small. Love their selection also! I’ll definitely be back.

I bought 2 pairs of birkies at the Eugene location. One of them I tried on again at home with socks, just didn’t feel right and were hurting my feet. I decided that if no one could wear them I’ll have to return. I need good support for my feet as I have plantar fasciitis in one foot as well as I’m on my feet all day at work. I called the Portland location which was closest to me and spoke to Cecilia. The reason I didn’t call Eugene location was that from the time we entered the store lady was so rude. I know I should have walked out without purchasing anything but all I wanted was good shoes for my feet. I have to say that Cecilia from the beginning of our conversation showed great concern and went above and beyond to help me with the return of the Birkenstocks Mantova. The shoes were mailed back to the store, within minutes Cecilia called me to confirm that my transaction was completed. Wow, what an awesome service! I’ll have to go back when I’m in the Portland area to buy more Birkenstocks and say Hello to this wonderful lady. Thank you for making my experience great!

Love Footwise, from Eugene to Corvallis to Broadway in Portland. I’ve been getting great shoes from Footwise for about 30 years – always quality shoes, service, and a trusty introduction to Birkenstocks and now Taos, my newest purchase.
I’m not sure why the other reviewers are having such parallel experiences with Footwise – I’ve never had Zombie-​like service here, but I only need new Birkenstocks every 5 years or so, so maybe I haven’t had enough touches on the ball to have a misstep here. It’s always been pleasant, and I appreciate their mailers so I can time their sale events.

They didn’t have what I needed and it was so busy with only 2 women working. However, they were quick to help me and were very friendly. I wanted to support this location but the backlog on Birks was too a wait.

I love my new Birkenstocks! I went in on a Sunday afternoon, not really sure which style/​comfort level I was looking for. The young woman helping me was so sweet, and didn’t seem to mind getting the various colors/​sizes/​styles from the back for me to try on. I ended up feeling very happy and confident in my choice. They have SO many cute Birkenstocks, I wanted them all! Will definitely be back.

I am a first time Unilocal reviewer but the service (lack of) prompted me to sign up. My daughter wanted her first pair a Birkenstocks and was unsure of her size. The only help we got was pulling the style and size and that seemed to be more of a problem for the staff. One in particular who seemed so miserable, I wasn’t sure if I should just walk out or give her a hug. Every time we needed to try a new size we would cringe knowing we needed to ask again for another size. If it wasn’t my daughters Birthday we would have just walked out. I am sorry I gave that place my business. There is no shortage of great shoe stores in Portland. Footwise will never get my business again.

Disappointed! Last year I bought a pair of Keen sandals at this store. I love– love these sandals, and was looking forward to another summer of wear. However, today I noticed a seam along the side of the strap that was coming apart, no fault of my own. The sandals are in rather good condition. I called the store hoping there was something to be done, after all when paying the amount I did on the sandals, I would hope to wear them more than one season! The response and dialogue was disappointing. Basically I was told at one year shoes can wear out and they are an independent store and can not do anything and can not guarantee the quality of their shoes. Hmmm… I was hoping for a «Why don’t you bring the shoe in to the store so we can take a look and see what we can do.» It seems like the store buyer would like to be aware of the flaw for future reference? When I asked if there was a manager to talk to, I was given her name and told the days she worked, but my name and number was never requested. Poor quality of service to a faithful independent store shopper. I agree with Heather S.“s comment, Owner take note: Now there are three reviewers deeply unhappy with your staff’s service.

I had a great experience. They special ordered an item for me, assist me on what size I should get and dealt with me as I flip flopped between colors.
They were very sweet and make me feel really comfortable.

Absolutely abysmal service! Zombie-​like as Unilocaler, Sherry S. astutely pointed out. They didn’t crack a smile when my partner exclaimed with joy several times about finding such comfortable shoes.
We bought over $ 350 worth of shoes because we loved them, but, I would never go there again nor recommend it, given the absolutely cold and unfriendly service!
We will definitely buy these brands again, just not at Footwise!
Owner, take note: your product is great, but it’s not a fluke that more than two reviewers are deeply unhappy with your staff’s service!!!
Your staff needs a lesson in soft skills!

The two women that I have to deal with in this store are undoubtedly the most unfriendly sales staff that i have encountered in a retail environment. I have bought many pair of Birkenstocks here and each time that I go in I hope that I will be greeted by someone different but, no, the same two women salespeople are there, unwilling to make eye contact, greet me or offer to acknowledge I am even in the store. I would not bother to go in at all if there were another Birkenstock store close in proximity. But no, so I am stuck spending $ 150 and up for shoes I love, while dreading the experience of doing so. I really hate to go in this store. Get new sales staff!!! Or train them, something. Make me want to go in!

Footwise used to be a great store. I say this as someone who has a hard time finding shoes that fit and that are comfortable. I was always able to find what I was looking for, and got great service when I was looking. NOT ANY MORE!!! I went in, looking for some warm, comfortable shoes for winter. I was unsure of my size, as I’d lost a lot of weight, which I told the young woman working there. She told me to «just guess» at my size, despite many measuring devices in evidence. It seemed to be a huge imposition for her to go and get a box for me, and I got dirty looks when I’d ask to see a different shoe or a different size. I gave up after a few minutes and left, never to return. I’m not sure where I’ll find my shoes now, but it certainly won’t be there.

I’ve always hated it when Unilocalers write reviews without ever making a purchase, but today when I walked into Footwise I think I got a sense of why that sometimes happens. I walked in and was the the only customer in the shop. The sales-​rep working didn’t acknowledge me, and even seemed to be aggressively moving papers about at the register so that I wouldn’t approach her. I got the feeling that I should just leave, but figured that maybe I was imagining her unfriendliness and continued. When I’d selected a shoe and asked to try them on she didn’t even make eye contact as she asked my size, grabbed the shoe out of my hand, and huffed into the back, just to return to slap the shoe box down on the side counter. I asked a question about the brand I was trying on — one I was unfamiliar with — and she made me feel like the biggest idiot. At this point I just wanted to get out of there, but figuring that she’d gone to so much trouble to get me the pair, I’d try them on anyway. Needless to say I made no purchase that day.
It was liking going to a dreaded inlaw’s house for dinner and feeling obligated to eat: of course the food wouldn’t taste good. Now I don’t know if I’m a doppleganger for her archenemy or what, but I felt totally unwelcome there. While not a kept Irvington woman decked out in expensive duds and designer handbag, I was respectfully dressed having just come from my job at a hospital. I really don’t know why the service was so bad. I’ve worked retail, including footwear, for a few too many years and know that somedays it’s hard to seem cheerful, but I’ve never been mean to to a customer, ever!
I do hope to amend this review by giving them a second shot — the store had a great selection of awesome brands — like Clark’s Indigo, Teva’s dressier stuff, and of course Dansko. And, given that I am not indeed the look alike of some devil-​customer, hope that the service is friendlier next time.

I have been shopping here for years and have always found what I am looking for.
The staff in this store is that right blend of helpful and efficient. I have not had one of them try to push a product that I was not interested in.

I had a great experience with Footwise. Went in for the first time the other week to get some sandal’s, found what I liked but they didn’t have my size. The employee working was very helpful and informed me that they would ship them to my house. I received them a couple day’s later and I was excited I got exactly what I was looking for.

They have a decent selection of quality shoes for sure from Sanita, to Dansko to Haflingers etc.
They had a great sale going on as well and the prices were almost half off.
So, why was the help just standing at the cash register looking basically straight ahead out the window… very zombie like. I asked a question about the shoe sale and they did not even come over to lend a hand showing which shoes are on sale or doing anything that a shoe salesperson does? I mean I don’t like the whole hovering over me but I don’t mind a little pampering since I’m looking at 100.00 shoes and up? It was really strange as if they were in a trance.
We did not buy anything.

Consistent is the best word to describe Footwise on Broadway. They have the shoes I want, when I want them at a price I’m willing to pay. If they don’t have the shoes in stock, they’ll order them and have them in just a few days with no extra charge to you.
The staff was a lot friendlier years ago. The last few times I’ve been in, they act a bit too aloof for my liking. They know their stuff but need to get back to the joy and enthusiasm they used to show.

I am not a big fan of shopping. Saying that, i know on occasion it needs to be done. I needed a new pair of shoes for work as I keep wearing the same pair (also bought here) over and over again. I think they might walk off my feet.
I’ve been here before and liked the service I received and the prices were good. The last time I was here the shoes I bought ended up being less because there was a sale going on. That was nice.
Walked in having a general idea of what I wanted, but seeing what I wanted and seeing the price of what I wanted led me in another direction. I ended up finding 2 pairs that I liked. After spending some time walking around in each, I decided on the sale pair as they were much more comfortable. I spend most of my day on my feet so comfort is very important. Low and behold they ended up being $ 10 less than what they were marked. Score!
I probably could have stayed there all day trying on shoes. There was absolutely no pressure from the sales people to make up my mind. I was free to roam and I quite enjoy that.
When I am in need of a third pair of shoes, I will come back here again.
