Happy Trails! Dog Running

I am so happy I found John/​Happy Trails! We recently moved to the area and were totally overwhelmed by the task of finding a new pet sitter for our two dogs and two cats. There are so many pet care providers in Portland, but John really stood out for us, right from the start. His website had lots of information about his experience and he replied to my email very promptly and enthusiastically (I waited days to hear back from some folks). He inspired our confidence at the initial meeting/​run as well. In fact, we canceled another appointment because we knew we didn’t need to look any further. One of our dogs is scared of men (which we forgot to mention to John :-) but he responded perfectly – he kneeled down and turned his body sideways and let our dogs examine him. It’s obvious that John understands dog behavior and we really appreciate that he gives our pets lots of love and plenty of mental and physical stimulation while we’re away. He also checks in to let us know how things are going and to ask questions. One of our dogs had TPLO surgery a few years ago for a torn ACL – John watches him closely and adjusts his running pace and frequency accordingly.
John has cared for our pets during two trips and we have always come home to happy, healthy pets. Honestly, I think our dogs have more fun and get more exercise with John than with us!
For what it’s worth, my partner is a dog trainer and runs a dog walking/​pet sitting business in the Bay Area, so our appreciation for John comes not only from being grateful pet parents, but from being pet professionals ourselves.
