Hillside Imports

I had Hillside imports install Revo software a few years and paid somewhere around 500 $ and now my car wont pass DEQ. I called them to have software uninstalled so I can pass deq, and they said we dont deal with Revo anymore and theres nothing we can do to help you. So now I’m stuck with a vehicle that has bad tags and cant pass DEQ. Beware of this place!

These guys are honest, fast and very reasonably priced, I won’t take my Audi anywhere else! Sure, German cars are more expensive to repair but that doesn’t mean you should be completely ripped off and these guys are perfect example of getting the job done right at the right price. Just one example, Sunset Audi said a seal was leaking badly and would be $ 915 to repair, these guys confirmed the leak was minor and would be $ 335 if/​when the leak gets worse. Also, the owner, Rene is very responsive using text messages to get no BS quotes on repairs, vs. almost every other shop wants to give you the run-​around. This shop literally made me feel better about keeping my older mileage Audi around longer knowing that I have a good honest shop to bring it to!

2010 Jetta TDI check engine light came on and with all the favorable reviews decided to take it to Hillside. They quickly diagnosed an issue with the diesel particulate filter and then went above and beyond by reaching out to VW Customer Service to determine it was still covered by warranty and should go to the dealer.
Professional, courteous, and charged the minimum for diagnostics.

Rene, the shop owner and his staff are friendly and knowledgeable, so customer service hasn’t been a problem. My hesitation is more the services offered for my specific vehicle. First off, it’s carbureted. I can appreciate if that’s not your specialty but to not offer the ability to check it at all, can you really call yourself full service? Last time I checked mechanical was easier to diagnose than EFI, so this left me feeling like it wasn’t $worth their time.
As a manager myself I understand the costs of labor and the price for quality employees. However for me the labor rate is too high for common jobs, especially when some require services they cannot provide like alignments that tack on added costs. The price markup on parts is about 15−20% so I thought maybe they could negotiate labor depending on the vehicle or job. I was wrong. Instead I received a quote at $ 400 for what I consider a relatively simple job with less than a $ 100 in parts. This aint your sugar-daddy’s Audi, its a 30 yr old Mk1 that needs E-​brake cables.
Lastly, I’ve been three times so its not like I didn’t try to appreciate their abilities. I know there’s a lot to fix on my vehicle but I came in for a specific problem and unfortunately I’m still living with a noisy gremlin in my front end. I know VW and Audi’s can be hard to work on and require special tools or I wouldn’t be writing this review but Hillside Imports might just be too overpriced for my white collar wallet and lack of Quattro.

Called to setup a first appointment. New to town and looking for a reliable new mechanic for my audi. This place was one of the rudest mechanic shops I called yesterday. Lost my business and I will happily travel out of my neighborhood to visit a shop that shows some customer service skills and doesn’t give me an attitude when asking them questions. Called fix em haus and they walked me through the issue over the phone and said thanks for calling at the end. Not too difficult guys.

Great service and price. Have always had a good experience. Much better than at the VW dealership.

This place has the best customer service hands down. I just had my Audi’s 75k services done, and flushed the brake lines. Rene definitely knows audis that’s why I drove all the way from Vancouver. I sent them a text to try out their text communication option out, to check the ETA of my car. They responded right away. So that option works well. Also there is a nice little bar in t he same lot. I had an amazing breakfast. Waiting for my car and eating good food, I also had a few cocktails. It was one of the best experiences at an automotive shop I have in a while. The staff at Hillside go above and beyond. Made me feel really comfortable. Also picking my car up I noticed some candy they left for me which was awesome. They also cleaned my floor mats. I will definitely be back to do business here again as well as recommend this place to anyone with an audi or vw. Thanks guys !!!

My son brought his GLI for diagnostic tests to see why his engine light was on. They told him it would be $ 55-​$ 110 and they would be able to tell him exactly the problem. They asked about an oil change and he said it was probably due but didn’t tell them to change it. He picked it up and the bill was $ 245. They said it was really low on oil and over the mileage so they changed it ($ 85) and they said it to longer to diagnose the problem. I called about it and Rene said he was under the impression he wanted the oil changed and that he was going to check on some parts and call me by the end of the day. Haven’t heard from him since. Make sure you get all prices in writing before you leave!

My 1998 VR6 Jetta has been serviced, tuned up and maintained single handedly by these guys since the car was first purchased many years ago by the original owners.
I’m at 169k at this point and the team at this shop have done a great job at maintaining and going above and beyond for my car. They answer questions and overall give me a good idea of what needs to be fixed soon, and what needs to be fixed now. With the level of service I get, I’ve never felt it was overpriced.
I highly recommend this shop.

I just brought my TDI wagon in for it’s 40k service. Service was great and they explained what they were doing and were very accommodating with scheduling. Also you can’t beat the card and candy left on the seat!!!

I’ve known about this shop for quite some time now but after purchasing my 2001 audi s4 I knew that hillside was going to be my new local shop. They’re located within a mile from my house but I’ve also heard great reviews about them, so here’s another one. I was very impressed with their work they did on my car, runs perfect! But also the audi specialist has almost an exact replica of my car so that was just the icing on the cake. All around great shop, friendly staff, and as far as I’m concerned more knowledgable than a dealership crew. I would definitely recommend anyone with a vw or audi to go here. Honest, quick, and efficient.

Rene, did some work on my car before calling me for approval. It wasn’t
necessary, and could have waited, he called it ‘preventive maintenance”. So, I ended up paying for something wasn’t needed. I didn’t want to argue with him, so I just paid. As a result of this, I haven’t been back.

Well, true to my earlier review I snagged a deal on a late model MKIV GTI. (Golf)
Without anything even noticeable wrong with it I took it to Hillside. Sure enough there was a couple things the domestic shops missed from the previous owner. Rene’ and his crew turned it fit around at an affordable cost and now it’s been maintenance free for over a year! Besides oil changes I’ve had some new suspension thrown in, engine coil packs, and a new diverted valve for the turbo. Everything has been absolutely rock solid and affordable. The suspension I priced out myself, and realized that it would probably take me 8 – 12 hours over a weekend. Plus I would more than likely mess it up.
They returned my car same day, and I’ve been driving it like Mario Kart ever since. Can’t imagine owning a vee dub in the town without Hillside as my wingman.

I drive by this place every day to and from work. One morning my check engine light came on, so I thought I’d stop in and see if they could tell me what was causing it. Upon entering the shop I felt immediately unwelcome and as if they had better things to do than talk to me. He said they would charge $ 50 to check the diagnostic, which is something they’ll do for free at any O’Reilly. I guess I thought they would be eager to gain a new client and offer to do the diagnostic reading for free, which obviously gives them the chance to offer a quote on whatever service is needed. But, given their attitude towards me and the $ 50 for the reading, I decided to go elsewhere. I see all these other reviews rave about customer service at this shop, but unfortunately I didn’t experience it.

I am very happy with the excellent work that Hillside Imports just did on my 2005 Audi A6 that has 163,000 miles. In fact, it was the happiest $ 3600 that I’d spent in quite some time. My car had a lot of deferred maintenance (E-​brake wiring, spark plugs, coils, valve cover gaskets and seals, head and tail lights and assembly, radiator, etc). Even though they were out of loaner cars, the Hillside discounted rate at Enterprise on Barbur Blvd was only $ 27/​day. The service from Rene and his staff was excellent. They called me every day with an update on «discoveries» under the hood and the price it would cost and when the work would be finished.
I highly recommend Hillside Imports for any Volkswagen or Audi repair work in the Portland area.

I have a 2010 VW Jetta. After the first 3 years of free service at the dealer’s, I started looking around for another place that offered good service for a good price. Based on the Unilocal reviews, I decided to try it. I called ahead and was quoted a price. When the work was done, I paid less than what was quoted, because they told me that they only perform services that are necessary. Isn’t that awesome? I hate taking my car in because I’m always afraid that I’ll get charged for something unnecessarily.
A few weeks later, one of the engine lights come on. In a panic, I called Hillside and they were able to fit me in within 2 hours of my calling. The light turned off when they were checking on it, they printed out the issue, cleared the system and put the printout in the file. I was in and out in 15 mins. No charge, no fuss. Highly recommend this place.

Once my warranty from the dealer was up, I knew wanted to go elsewhere for my service. I did a lot of research and read many reviews and decided to go with Hillside. From my first call to get an quote on my 40k service to picking up my car (that was vacuumed and was left with a little chocolate treat) they were nothing but professional and friendly. I also later that night noticed the «Hillside Imports» license plate frames and I am very proud to rep the frames. I will be going to them form now on for any VW work I need.

Best place to get your volkswagon serviced hands down. I have been to dealerships and other mechanics and nobody compares to there honestly and great workmanship. I have a 02 Passat and i will never take it anywhere but to this shop. They even loaned me a car on a last minute circumstance and i didn’t even expect them to, once you come here, you will not regret it.

Fantastic service for my 2002 Passat GLX. Rene and crew really know their stuff. Extremely clear on the required work, friendly and honest. I initially tried the various VW dealers in town, but ended up here because the level of service is simply superior in all respects.
