Really nice staff with bartenders/spanish coffee experts walking around giving you the best damn spanish coffee this side of the mississippi! My boyfriend and I love coming here for the happy hour after dinner elsewhere, but food here is really good too! :)

This is my second time coming to this location. If you go to Portland you need to stop and get some great food but a must have Spanish Coffee. Little pricy($ 10.50) but worth the entertainment and experience. Always best to make reservations and ask for the old bar area unless going for fancy you can sit in front of restaurant. The wait staff were super nice and we were on limited time and they were right in it. We will be retuning again. with more time to visit :)

Is not always I crave Spanish Coffee, but if I do, I always head over to Hubers. I opted not to see the show, you see it once, oh see them all. Definitely recommend for tourists to see though. It’s part of Portland, so you have to see it. Anyway, it was still happy hour so we ordered some appetizers to go with out coffees. Calamari and the Spinach Dip is highly recommended.

Wonderful food. Good service. The atmospher leaves something to be desired. There is massive construction going on which makes it a not very nice place to eat. Also, we made a reservation for four and for some reason they put us right next to the kitchen door when there were other, nicer, tables around. Food was wonderful though, so I would go back. Especially as soon as the construction is done.

I went here every week for three months with my husband. It was our favorite, We called it «the restaurant» because if we were going out to dinner it was here, every single time. Unfortunately now I will never return. Their menu is gluten free friendly, with«gluten free» written next to every meal I can eat. I ordered the seafood penne gluten free, it arrived with bread inside the dish, I asked if the bread was gluten free(as I had never been served bread before with this dish) and the waitress said she didn’t know, took my plate, came back with a dish without bread and said it was now the correct gluten free order. I told her if she just took gluten bread out of the dish and mixed it up I would be incredibly sick. She said she didn’t. 20 minutes later I was violently throwing up outside on the street. My husband called and asked to speak with the manager, he was out, so he spoke with the chef. The chef confirmed that the bread was not gluten free and if my plate came right back out then it was in fact not remade. He suggested we call the owner in the morning. The next day my husband called for the owner who was wholly unconcerned for our situation and the fact I was severely ill for what ended up being two days. He actually laughed at one point. My husband was so upset he hung up, and I called the owner back. I informed him that food allergies are a real thing and if you’re going to mark your food as being food allergy friendly then you better stick with it. I was very ill because the waitress was careless and poisoned me, but such recklessness could kill someone if they ha a peanut or shellfish allergy and she did the same. He said it was a multigenerational business and that he understood food allergies but was unconcerned with any attempt to make it right or to give a sincere apology.

Our first stop after arriving in Portland for the first time ever! I loved the atmosphere! From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was taken back into a different time period! I went around 3pm, so it wasn’t busy at all. There was only one woman serving at the time and she had been working at Huber’s for 45 years! She told us about the history of the restaurant, and she also told us her life story. I really enjoyed her attitude and energy. She of course recommended the Spanish Coffee and the turkey. My family members all ordered the half and half, I ordered the roasted turkey sandwich. We shared the spinach artichoke dip. Everything was so tasty! I’m not a fan of coleslaw, but I really enjoyed the slaw here! I’d most definitely come back.

Huber’s dining area is very quaint with wood lined walls and an open kitchen but all hopes are dashed after what I saw in the restroom. My husband made his choice, so he thought, till the salmon came by headed to another table. He thought the salmon was good, the broccoli perfect, and the mash potatoes nice a fluffy. Smoked Turkey Reuben was a winner for me. When I order a Reuben it is always turkey instead of the standard pastrami or corned beef. Since Huber’s is known for their turkey it was a good choice… but it ended up to be nothing special. I have had better, this was dry. I ate only half. The other half I just ate the turkey. I chose the Reuben because of the SMOKED, not roasted turkey. I know smoked meat and this did not have any hint of natural smoke flavor. It tasted like my Thanksgiving roasted turkey form the oven. We ordered crab cakes which came with a nice, slightly spicy, dipping sauce. We were brought a slice of bread for each of us. Not sure what it was. Very dense, sweet. Didn’t go with anything we ordered. The Spanish Coffee presentation was impressive. You pay for that presentation more then the drink. It was a very nice blend of 151, Kahlua, coffee, and cream. Skimpy on the sugar rim. I have had better. Went looking for the restroom off the back bar. I had no idea there was such a large space. It was very bright for a bar due to the impressive skylight. Sitting in the front dining room which I thought was pretty classy, but if you were to blindfold me and stand me in this restroom I would of thought I was in the worse, rundown dive of a bar restroom. The counter top Formica was half peeled off and hanging there. It looked dirty. The soap dispenser was hanging by one screw at an angle. But…what took me back… as I waited in the very small stinky restroom, our server comes out of the stall wearing her long white apron. You be the judge here. Her job is to go in the kitchen get your food among other things. She was in the bathroom stall with her apron ! If I could give negative stars I would because this trumps anything positive I have written. This is absolutely unacceptable. Ladies when you leave the restroom, there is a step into the dark hall right as you open the door. Easy to step wrong.

Slow service, but the Spanish Coffee is worth the visit. I can’t say much more other than what I already said. We were waiting 5 – 7 minutes to be seated next to the hostess stand which had a huge sign reading«Please Wait to be Seated» mkkk, so we did that. We waited, we waited and we waited a little more. Two servers passed us and finally one of them made a remark saying, you can just sit down. So once we were seated and pulled up another chair because there were 5 of us and no tables to accommodate, we got settled. We ordered drinks and all asked for waters, too. Spanish Coffee– this is the reason you come here. This is a delish little treat for a coffee lover! The American version of a Spanish coffee uses a heated sugar rimmed Spanish coffee mug with rum and triple sec. The drink is then flamed to caramelize the sugar. Coffee liqueur is then added which puts out the flame, and then it is topped off with coffee, and whipped cream. The waiter comes back a few mins later with the drinks and is reaching over everyone, doesn’t remember who got what nor is he asking. He is just putting the drinks down where ever he can find space. The waiter leaves and we have to call him back… um, sorry, we are ready to order. The food was meh. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the Spanish Coffee and the recommendation from a Portlander, we would have left.

Apparently the oldest bar in PDX. When we drove up to street parking, I was telling the BF that they were closed due to little/no lighting where I thought it was but he said it was inside which made me SO excited since I wanted to go here for awhile for their Spanish coffee and mini show. It was quite cute inside, very dim lighting, I told him it reminded me to Cuba for some odd reason due to the décor. I was starring at this panel near the booths because it was a tad darker than the others, secretly hoping it was a secret door to flappers, cigars, alcohol and music but UNFORTUNATELY that panel didn’t open whatsoever –_– So of course, the Spanish coffee is the way to go. It’s $ 10.50 and they give you an option of hot or cold. BF told me cold was a cooler show and I like my drinks cold while he opted for a hot one. A mixologist comes round and gives you a little show while he makes your drink. Super friendly and experienced. not a drop of alcohol dropped on the floor and stayed in my cup during the mixage: P True statement, the cold one is cool AND personally it tastes better too! They have happy hours during reg times and from 9-close. I wanted to try the turkey dinner but didn’t get a chance to because we just came from dinner but Maybe next time!

Turkey is my meat of choice — I gobble it up. Huber’s cooks an amazing bird & seem to stuff the turkey into all sorts of dishes. The turkey-quesadilla on the happy hour menu is one of a kind & a must order. The table-side display of Spanish coffee being created is a fun experience. These waiters are skilled and put on a great show executing precise long pours for their amazed table-side audiences. This historical restaurant is an essential stop for anyone visiting Portland.

I’m a regular at Hubers and will remain so until they change their employees. The lunchtime service is the best. There’s a sweet young woman named Page that hosts in the morning. She always greets me by my name, which is refreshing in the day and age. Ask to sit in Yokos section – she’s been there almost as long as the restaurant itself. And if the service doesn’t wow you enough, the Spanish coffees will! The food will please people but the service will keep them.

I am very impressed by the staff at Huber’s. You can tell that this company takes care of the small details with a focus on customer service. When you come here you must get a Spanish coffee! The performance you get when you order the drink is outstanding and it tastes great! Make sure to bring cash to tip the guy who makes the Spanish coffees! I highly recommend coming here sitting in the bar for any special night out you have!

Food was good, crowd was lively. The only reason I give it a three is you have to pay attention to your receipt. We ordered apps, and when I got my bill it had 2 entrees added to the bill. She went back to change it, then when I checked my acct(3 days later) it had 2 separate charges on it! :/

Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice! Turkey piccata! Awesome bread! As one of the oldest restaurants in Portland, Huber’s more than lives up to the hype, and it’s one of my favorite spots in the Pacific Northwest. I try to hit this up whenever I’m working in Portland, and coworkers I’ve taken here love it too. They’ve really nailed comfort food for cloudy, misty weather. On a cold Portland night, the warm atmosphere inside is a welcome respite. Customer service is top notch and the bartender who is usually here rocks. If you are in Downtown Portland, you must hit this historic institution. There is a good reason it has been in business this long. The fresh squeezed grapefruit juice alone is worth the trip!

Only had a couple of days in Portland, and had to ensure we visited Hubers Café. We were not disappointed. I might add, that we came mid-day, so didn’t have dinner. We chose to have the Happy Hour offering. We were very happy with the venue, which is historic. The service was very good, and at happy hour prices, it was well worth the stop. The highlight was the Spanish Coffee presentation… very nice presentation, and very tasty as well. I would visit again, if in the area.

I come to Huber’s Bar because I love sharing the experience of seeing a Spanish coffee drink created at my table with my daughters HOWEVER I will not come back. The food and drinks might be good, happy hour food(not on Tuesday ??) good The service Is terrible. After sitting at our table for over 20 minutes, We finally had to go ask for menus! Then forever for someone to take our order! Then wait again for someone to ask our server to come by with an extra spoon since the Buss-person removed a dish and took my spoon. We asked him but he is ONLY allowed to BUSS tables! We had to get up again to ask for a spoon at the kitchen door! REALLY Huber’s figure this out — any one of your staff should be Able to grab a spoon or a menu and give it to any table despite Who’s table it is Please don’t give me –it was an exceptionally busy night — we were just ignored –no one cared! It’s just drinks and dessert! train your servers to check in with the customer !!! No longer my go to place for my birthday spanish coffee drink

This review is based on the bar. We tried to eat in the restaurant but couldn’t the attention of the host so we went to the back where we received excellent service. I love turkey and few restaurants sell turkey but Huber’s has turkey in so many different ways. I ended up ordering the turkey dinner since I could not decide and it was a great choice. I wish Seattle had a restaurant like Huber’s.

Came here specifically to try the Spanish Coffee. Great experience! They have dedicated people making these only, have your tip ready or they will leave! The table next to us wanted to tip but the guy said that he really appreciates the thought but he has to get to his next table! I was shocked, in a good way. We also had a couple appetizers that were pretty good. Minus one star because of the slow wait staff and the ridiculously loud bar. It felt like we were at the stock exchange. I’ll be back for sure.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to grab a late lunch. We arrived in Portland later than we expected and missed Mother’s Bistro Sunday brunch so we went to Unilocal to help us out. Huber’s Café was just around the corner which made it very convenient. Huber’s claim to fame is that they are Portland’s oldest Restaurant. We walked inside and were seated within 5 min. We asked for some coffee to warm us up but the coffee we received was cold. When my boyfriend asked for seconds on the coffee, I didn’t finish my first cup because I was just too disappointed, he received another cold cup of coffee which he had to ask our waitress to give him another cup of HOT coffee. She went to grab him another cup with a «why are you even talking to me look.» We noticed later that everyone else in the restaurant was ordering the Spanish coffee.(Coffee with liquor) A gentleman comes to your table and performs while he sets your coffee on fire. That’s probably why our coffee was cold … they usually set it on fire to warm it up! [Okay, he sets the liquor on fire and then pours coffee over it to extinguish the flames] Luckily our food was warm. He ordered the traditional turkey plate and I ordered a turkey sandwich. The food was actually very delicious which reminded me of a good home cooking Thanksgiving dinner. On our way out I noticed that all of the attention was being given to the back of the restaurant which housed a bar which was full of people and laughter. My recommendation is if you arrive too late at Mothers Bistro for Brunch, just stay for their smaller lunch menu.

This was a late night find in downtown portland on a rainy weeknight last week. I was compelled to give a review given the way the host and the waiters handled my rambunctious cohorts last week on a rainy weeknight. The bar doesn’t look like much from the outside and you have to go through a building to find the front entrance. The host and waiters were incredibly courteous and funny and knows how to handle a tough crowd when they saw one. On top of the good service we got, Huber’s Café has a specialty: Spanish Coffee. Now I have never had Bacardi in my coffee ever but it was pretty good, strong and unique. I have never had one and was definitely impressed by the demonstration of getting it delivered to you when you order one. Overall, I enjoyed it…

Spanish coffee! Watching the bartender making the flaming coffee whilst being in a beautiful historic building was the highlight of our visit. Food was on par and drink choices were fun. We sat at the bar and noticed all the vintage touches like the old cash register they have mounted on the bar for style. Don’t forget to look up– you don’t want to miss the beautiful etched glass ceiling windows!

Fun reunion at this great jewel in PDX where 30 years ago we used to hang with friends while Jimmy served Spanish coffees. Tonight had the mussels(succulent!) and turkey dinner and of course Spanish coffee! The only disappointment was the bread that we thought too sweet. Our servers were great and accommodated our request for a quieter table that put us by the prep bar where it was fun to watch the chefs’ pyrotechnics at the grill. Huber’s is a must stop if you are visiting Portland, or live here!

This place oozes history, and calls itself the oldest bar in Portland. Decent, bargain-priced food for happy hour — gotta sit in the bar area in the back. We didn’t order the Spanish coffee but were entertained by its preparation about six times. Fire! Would definitely come back for the cheap HH eats and with visitors who aren’t too picky about having a gourmet dining experience, tho maybe that’s what you find in the restaurant area. Remains to be seen.

My friend had the choice of any restaurant in Portland and he chose this place because turkey dinners are his absolute favorite. Although I’m not a big fan I agreed(it was his birthday dinner, so yeah). The building is beautiful and it’s a historic place, I’ll give them that. The food was decent, too, but definitely not mind blowing. We both ordered the ½ and ½(half ham, half turkey) and for $ 18 a plate I feel like it could have been a bit better. At least more meat. Or better bread. Or include a dinner salad. But I guess when you dine in a historic place you’re there more for the atmosphere than the food – and the place was nice. I’d tell you to eat here once just so you can say you’ve eaten in the oldest restaurant in Portland.

Huber’s, the two of us have been around for awhile, but you longer than me(I’ve been told that ladies don’t reveal their ages, but I’m not sure what the rules for restaurants are on revealing ages). Anyhow I appreciate your age because it gave me a chance to show a fellow Unilocaler from California what a really long-lived restaurant can do up against these other younger whippersnapper restaurants popping up all over Portland. Anyway, I think my California Unilocal Pal was impressed quickly, but it doesn’t take much to impress people quickly with your outstanding ambiance and beautifully cared-for interior. All the beautiful dark wood paneling, beautiful stained-glass ceiling, and white linen speaks graciousness and comfort. I’m especially glad I called and found out I had to make reservations for happy hour, and my service from the original contact all the way through to the end of the visit was perfect. They even send a reminder e-mail re your reservation time. I did arrive about 5:30 p.m. ahead of the 6 p.m. reservation and said I could just sit and read until the correct time, but they insisted that I could sit in the bar, and so was able to enjoy watching people come in and seeing the place and looking happy about it. My Unilocal Pal, Porsche, came in about 5:45 p.m. and I recognized her right away. It was a great deal of fun to chat and get to know one another before ordering. We split an order of some beautiful tri-color chips and spinach and artichoke dip, and we each got a gorgeous cheeseburger that came with fries. We kept forgetting to eat a little sometimes because we were having fun talking. Porsche ordered a cocktail I don’t remember the name of and I ordered a coke, but you won’t believe that both of us forgot to order a Spanish Coffee. I feel great shame as a Portland host not to have done this(for shame). I heartily recommend, as I have to any of my out-of-town visitors, that they visit Huber’s Café either on their own or with me. It never fails. I know Porsche and I enjoyed the visit, and I sincerely request she return to Portland so I can be sure to go back to Huber’s Café with her and order a Spanish Coffee.

Nice, old styled back bar with gorgeously arched ceilings and delightful gothic mirrors. Founded in 1879, this place oozes charm. One of our party ordered a Spanish coffee which was prepared at table side. Long streams of Kahlua ignited the deep blue flames and the effect was a drink of delectable quality. Nice place for a date when style matters. Classy, dimly lit, nice cocktails, comfortable lighting.

Sometimes I feel like we’re so inundated with stimuli that Huber’s is a nice escape to a quiet place to get some food and really stiff drinks. It’s just really comfortable and relaxing– no tv’s or music playing overhead. I think the establishment is like 100 years old(for realskies) and so the interior is a lot of dark wood, and low lighting. It’s like a soft, comfortable, dark cave– minus the drafts and dampness. Of course, everybody knows about the Spanish Coffee, but did you know their onion rings are huge and crispy? Their steak bites are a good portion for happy hour and really well-flavored. I really want Huber’s to be my go-to neighborhood bar where I have a table at which I always sit and all the waiters and bartenders know my name and order. If it wasn’t downtown and hard to find parking, i’d be there at least once a week. 4 stars only because the Spanish Coffee is so stinkin’ expensive.

I read lots of good reviews about Huber’s café on Unilocal, especially their famous Spanish coffee. Since it’s just 5 minutes walk from my hotel in Portland, I decided to give it a try. Sunday evening around 5 and the place was packed. We’re fortunate to get a table. The staff was very friendly and all dressed in the old style tie + vest + apron. I really like the classical atmosphere here, reminds me of those old family restaurants in 1930s movies. The Spanish coffee costs 10 bucks but totally worth it. You might notice this because almost every adult in the restaurant holds one. And what a show that bartender put on for us! The 3-feet liquor pouring, the dramatic blue flame lighting, and he did all these so fluently and gracefully. No wonder it’s so famous. The appetizer steamed mussels is kind of disappointing though. It was much colder than it supposed to be, and the some mussels tastes chewy. It feels like the dish was not steamed long enough. My entrée of chili garlic prawn is great. The prawns are fresh, tender and nicely flavored. The spice gave it quite a pleasant kick, which goes great with the rice on the dish. I really enjoyed this dish and I think it’s a must have if you like seafood. We ordered tiramisu for dessert. The flavor was OK, but it was quite a pleasant surprise when I saw the candle on the cake. Our waitress noticed that it was my birthday and put on this candle for me. That was such a nice gesture and I really appreciated it. General speaking, it was quite a nice experience in Huber’s and I would consider going there again when visiting Portland.
