Saw the great ratings and thought I would give the place a try. Upon stepping in to the place, I received a lot of stares, and I would very quickly learned that this was not a POC friendly place to be so I didn’t bother to stick around.

Live music? Great beer? Good vibe? Check check check. Stumbled into Laurelthirst after a big dinner. The beers on tap were solid. They have a vast selection of brews. Only had time to guzzle down two, but while doing so I was serenaded by the band performing. They jammed out, and were pretty good. If you find yourself in the neighborhood a looking for a spot to hang for a bit, this is your place.

I don’t know how to describe this place but it felt like home. I decided to go here because they offered live music and when I went I heard Big Foot Mojo, had local Portland beer, ate a steak and brie sandwhich(with chips — as in potato chips… not fries. I was duped haha) and made new friends. This bar is perfect and if I lived around the area I would be here every week. The bar is divided into to areas, one with the main bar, stage, booths and seats, the other side has games and there is even outdoor seating. There is a wide selection of local brews and there is music pretty much every night(some require cover charge) but overall Laurelthirst impressed and was inviting. Will be coming back here! P.s — above the bar you will find lots of antiques and decorations… many of them are from regulars. One person I met put her grandmothers rocking chair up there!

So great! Fun atmosphere. I wish I could give 3.5 stars. Super super casual, and welcoming neighborhood watering hole. Absolutely great staff, great MUSIC, good prices! Well for starters, it’s a bar, and a great bar. They have entertainment, live, music. Their music is fun! Different types all around but check their schedule if you’re looking for something in particular. They do charge for cover on some nights, so expect it to get kind of busy. The décor is super cool, lot’s of interesting things to look at and keep yourself occupied. In the front, that is a giant tree on the bar? I am not sure why, but it’s cool! For those not feeling up for a beer, cider, or drink? They have tea, how sweet! They have food as well, I have not been able to try it just yet, but I will be back to give it a shot!

As a music venue, Laurelthirst is really good! It is an intimate venue, and the volume level of the music is just right. You’ll do best to sit right up front, as the stage isn’t very high, and the view is easily blocked further back. The food seems pretty average based on the burrito I ordered. I’ll definitely be back, and will check out more of their menu offerings in the future.

Fun place! I loved the live music. Lots of people, good drinks, and social atmosphere. This is a good place to go if you like meeting new people, not too pretentious while still being festive.

Everything a neighborhood bar should be! Live music, good drinks, decent food and good people. I sipped down an Atlas blackberry cider while chilaxing to the sounds of Seattle’s Jim Paige. The pub was a mix of old and young folk. Some were moved enough to dance to the music. I would’ve joined in but I ordered dinner. I opted for the swiss and mushroom burger. Fortunately, it did not drip all over my plate like swiss mushroom burgers elsewhere are notorious for. A plus for healthy bites, like the hummus plate, on the menu. The food itself may not be reason enough to come but it sure was tasty and satisfying. I would definitely be here 3 to 4 times a week if I lived closer.

I love this place! It has the vibe of a local corner bar, plus great homemade food and live music every night. The service is friendly and the mood is laid back.

This place is a superb venue for live music. Itcan be a bit crowded and there’s dancing folks in your way when you have to hit the head. But if you’re seeing a good, fun danceable band like Kris DeLane and the Hurt, then you deserve it and you’re happy the folks are dancing! Don’t know what took me so long to check this place out. But I’m glad I did. Cover charge was $ 8 — not too bad. Beers were reasonable. Smoking tables outside and around the corner. Nice staff! I will surely be back to try the food and check out some more live music!

Classic bar with plenty on draft! Great food, great atmosphere, and great music. Perfect place to meet friends for a pint and interesting music. Best of all — a place in Portland that doesn’t judge for ordering other beer besides a local microbrew!

After a failed attempt to get into a few clubs in Portland because of their ridiculous lines, I found solace in this place. It had The Thing on the TV(followed by Fast Times), two pinball machines, a jukebox with some serious deep cuts, and a fun, relaxed atmosphere. This place was heaven for a few hours and maybe it’ll treat you well too.

Went to go see some live music tonight. The two last bands were great. The staff was unhelpful from the doer to the bartender to the manager. They charged a cover, but did not stamp hands, so if you used a different doer that was another five bucks, or stepped outside for a smoke ext. The bartenders were rude and disregarded the cue forming. A few smaller music goers were pushed out of the way so the manager could berate the final act for being too loud. of course noise levels must be respected, the act had only finished their first song, and the wording and tone the manger chose killed a good calm vibe in the crowd. :(

Great inexpensive place for live music on Thursday nights and an eclectic crowd. A lot of single people there. It was a nice local little restaurant/bar. I am not sure I’d eat there, but they had a good selection of beers/drinks. I had the Orange Peel beer and it was pretty tasty. It got a bit crowded but a good experience overall. :)

This place is phenomenal. Free live music on many nights(Mondays are exceptionally great), great beer selection at manageable prices, nice and normal bartenders, good atmosphere, decent food. Totally unpretentious. Makes the list.

Great inexpensive place for live music and microbrews! The atmosphere is of small neighborhood pub, not a dive bar. The live music was bluegrass type stuff, and the talent was impressive(and no cover charge, so tip the band). There was also an old hippie doing some kind of psychedelic dancing, which was entertaining in itself. The menu was small, but I got a delicious Reuben and tomatoe cheese soup for only $ 9. The beers on tap are awesome, and I got the Rasputin Stout($ 4.50) which was an impressive 9%ABV and great tasting. I would definitely come back and suggest you visit this place. It’s reasonably priced, clean, and friendly. Just make sure to get there before 6 to get a good seat.

This was my first visit to this local iconic live music and food and drink venue,., now celebrating its 25th year. I’m starting to become more familiar with the local music scene in PDX and this venue supports some of the best local artists… .Although a small stage and rather narrow make up, the acoustics are acceptable and(saw the local indi/Americana artist Little Sue) people seem to take up every inch of space to enjoy… which include some pretty creative dancing moves. You get the feeling everyone knows each other, the band, the patrons, the staff. its one big happy family feel . A very nice beer and cider selection… and frankly for this review that’s all I can speak to. However, I’ve heard good things about the food(New American Pub Style) and certainly based on my initial impression I’ll be back. Portland takes the support of live/organic music seriously… and this is a great little venue to showcase some talented, hardworking local players. Suggest you frequent their website to check out their live music schedule… be prepared to become family and if only awkwardly… do some free form dancing. .
