I have been living in the neighborhood and going to Ling Garden going on 18 years now. This is the only restaurant my siblings and parents can agree on. Their hot and sour is the best, I have never had a better one and believe me, I have tried them all in the area! I love the fried pot stickers, Kung pow veggie delux with extra bamboo shoots and water chestnuts, and the cashew chicken.

Since moving to NW Portland it is impossible to find good ol’ american Chinese food that will deliver here. Ling Garden has just what you want, fast delivery, friendly staff, and is affordable. I’m not having any Chinese food until they open back up.

Standard american Chinese food, but they will make it how you want it… so that’s cool. Ask for low sodium, extra veg, no sauce, whatever your diet… they are happy to oblige. Its also really affordable and can feed you for 2+ meals which is always good in this economy. Apparently they have a full bar inside. I’ve seen an old drunk woman in there on more than one occasion.

Why did they have to close for one year??? I LOVETHISPLACE!!! I live very close and they it is the most delicious Chinese food I’ve literally ever had, not to mention it is so convenient in all ways — they are fast, friendly, and did I mention the food is AMAZING. I miss them so much already :(2017 couldn’t come sooner.

We visited this little tucked away gem on Christmas. Despite being a very popular and busy establishment the wait wasn’t extremely long before we got a table. The establishment was about. 4⁄5 on the cleanliness scale, cost was average and affordable for dinner and staff was helpful and attentive. I have eaten Chinese all around the country and it varies by region, sometimes even by state. By far, this is one of the best Chinese restraints that I have had the pleasure of enjoying. The food is flavourful and inhibits the authentic flavors that you look for in Chinese cuisine. The authenticity is apparent when your check is written in Chinese! This only adds to the character of this place. This has become one of the main attractions when we visit Portland. However, you may want to call ahead and check the hours before heading over. Being a family owned restaurant, sometimes the hours coincide with how busy it is or isn’t.

After all these years I finally try them and it happens to be on the last day before they close for one year. :-( The old school Chinese theme made me skeptical, but their dishes delivered. The Sesame Scallops stole the show. The Broccoli Beef and Moo Shoo Pork were winners. And I agree with others that the Hot and Sour Soup is one of the best around. I was expecting traditional Chinese restaurant stoic service, but the team here was so pleasant. They even have their own pseudo-parking lot on the side which comes in handy on busy NW21st. We more than fed four people with plenty of leftovers and one beer for $ 56. Be sure to try them in 2017.

This is my first time dining in as we normally order their Chinese delivery(which is always a bit of a wait but totally worth it as their portions are bountiful!). We ordered the Ling Dinner which is appetizer and soup each. My hot and sour soup was some of the best in town. Next was the entrée and again, I was not disappointed. It’s a quiet atmosphere and very clean which makes me think most of their business is delivery and carry out but I recommend this place 10 times, for any 3 methods of eatery.

It wasn’t terrible, but I definitely didn’t like it. The food was kind of soggy and bland. The vegetables were overcooked to the point that I could mash them with my fork. Everything tasted really soapy, like the dishes and silverware hadn’t been rinsed after they washed them. Service was good and staff was friendly, prices are okay, but I was not impressed.

Unfortunately I was not a fan of this place. I don’t mind greasy spoons but for some reason I food not dig this place. Food was what I had expected and price was high for the mall. I get prices down town are more expensive but this place just isn’t worth it.

Have had both dine in and take out with no complaints. Everything I’ve had here has been really good! Perfect neighborhood Chinese joint with really good hot and sour soup !

Ling’s Garden is here for you, rainy day shut ins. I give it the bulk of its stars for its reasonable prices and wonderful delivery service. Ling’s Garden is your standard Chinese food fair — they have popular American-loved dishes like General Tso’s Chicken and other favorites like their Seafood Sizzling Rice Soup that make a hard night of studying or avoiding the outside work out. Their delivery extends through all of the Alphabet District down into Old Town, all of downtown, a huge swath of Goose Hollow, the Industrial Northwest, and Forrest Heights. And they deliver fairly quickly in my experience. This place is just a staple of the busy downtown life and if you’re within their delivery range the truth is you should be scoring some of their Chinese grub throughout the rough cold wet winter nights when no one wants to go out. I love you Ling’s Garden.

Very disappointing. Ordered the pan-fried noodles with chicken and what I received was noodles clumped together and not even very hot(temperature-wise). The noodles were clearly frozen/pre-made and they couldn’t even bother to separate them when frying them up for me? And serve them hot, maybe? For the price & location, you can do much better. Pass.

Late on a Sunday night, I was scouring Unilocal to find a place that was still open! I am so happy Ling Garden was open, so I gave it a go. I called in my order, and the lady who answered was so sweet! I thought about ordering delivery, but she was so nice that I wanted to walk there for pick-up and meet her face to face. I ordered a large egg flour soup(enough for 2 people to have a big bowl), the Mongolian Beef, and the General Tsao Chicken for my boyfriend and I to split. The egg flour soup was delicious, and lived up to the high expectation I have for my all-time favorite Chinese menu item. The Mongolian Beef was okay; it was a little salty and spicy for my liking. The General Tsao Chicken was delicious, and we were fortunate enough not to find any gross, fatty pieces like is sometimes the case at Chinese restaurants. We each had a good size plate of both dishes and rice, and there was still enough leftovers for the next couple of days! Although I don’t crave Chinese food too often, this place will definitely be my go-to in the Alphabet District. The staff was extremely nice, and the food was way less greasy/fatty than other places!

Best chop suey ever! Ordered the Salt and Pepper Mushrooms, Sizzling Pan Fried Noodles, and Shrimp Fried Rice. All three were excellent, and I would even say that that Fried Rice was the best I’ve ever had. Sizzling Noodles were finished tableside, which was super cool. Genuine and attentive service to boot!

Good food, excellent service. The delivery is always super fast and the people are always very friendly. I always get the Chicken Broccoli and it has great flavor. I wouldn’t get the fried won tons again… A little too hard and not enough inside flavor.

This place is the only consistently good Chinese place in Portland.(That I’ve been to) The General Tsaos is lightly breaded, the sauce isn’t thick, you get fried noodles with your soup, the Egg Flower soyp is more like Egg Drop soup, and the people are friendly. A+++

Great customer service, these people are so pleasant and friendly, it’s nice. The food is mediocre at best. Just being honest. But if you want Chinese food that’s inexpensive and delivered to your door this is the best(only) real option in the neighborhood.

First I went to Seres, nice place with a bar. The staff was to busy to make eye contact so I seated myself. I was eventually acknowledged and given a menu, then ignored for another 15 minutes. I don’t trust restaurants that don’t have time to take your order, no matter how much they charge. I went to Ling Garden and got the Kung Pao Shrimp for about half the price of anything on the Seres menu. There was a warning star indicating hot and spicy, so I’m not complaining when I say it made me cry. Incredible flavor, fresh food, clean and pleasant décor, attentive and friendly staff. All they need to do is double their prices to compete with Seres.

Let me start off by saying it’s «Northern Chinese Food» as advertised on their building & they use no MSG. Unfortunately, a lot of Americans have become accustomed to thinking that MSG is authentic tasting Chinese food so they think something is missing when they taste authentic Chinese food. Pros: No MSG, Fresh-tasting food, Delivery, Convenient location. Cons: Waiters don’t speak English fluently which can cause payment issues, ordering ssues, etc… no parking lot for customers,

We ordered take-out yesterday. I tried the veggie spring rolls, shrimp fried rice and garlic scallops. None were great. They were all OK, I suppose. Edible, but I wasn’t happy with anything I tried. Not good enough for me to return. I won’t be back.
