I’m a stationery junkie. I have more pens and paper than I will use in my life and I cannot resist buying more. So seeing this on my way back to the parking garage… well, let’s just say my wallet was less than pleased. Walking in they have displays of Rite-in-the-Rain, Paperblanks, Rhodia, JHerbin, and a table full of leather journals. Off to the side they have racks of J. Lalo and Crane Company cards. At the check out they have a glass case of fountain pens– Lamy and a few other brands. They also had a good selection of Retro 51s. I kept myself to buying just one package of JHerbin ink carts, a JHerbin refillable rollerball and fountain pen. Prices on these items were inline with what I find online, so were a good deal to buyin person to avoid shipping fees. Anyway, a good spot to step out of the summer heat, soak up some needed AC, and slake my thirst for stationery. Customer service was okay, scare, but okay. The girl at the counter seemed confused when my friend and I, plus a whole bunch of tourists came in at once. The place had been empty, and suddenly it was FULL. She was nice enough at check out, but definitely seemed locked behind that glass case. Which is a weird way to set up a shop. She also seemed like the only person in there. Which again, seemed odd to me. Though it was a Wednesday afternoon. (They should carry Field Notes, Word, Baron Fig, and other brands of pocket sized notebooks. I definitely would have picked up the latest edition of the Field Notes if they’d had them. Also they don’t carry any of the kickstarter pens and pencils. I, of course, would love to see more of a GOOD pencil selection. Adding Palomino Blackwings and items like the machined pen and pencils would add a lot of cred to their already good stationery game.)

Stopped in yesterday to pick up some writing supplies, and had a wonderful experience. I’ve been a fan of LAMY pens for a while, and Papier has a wide selection of nibs and inks(not to mention the pens themselves.) I’ve always found them to be extremely helpful; whether it’s an issue with my pen writing cleanly(usually just needed to be cleaned,) or if I’m in search of cards to send out for the holidays. It’s great to have this little jewel of a store so close to home!

i really dislike giving bad reviews. but i stopped into the Papier to check out pens a couple months back… a friend said she got one here that she loves and i was trying to track it down. i was met with such incredible rudeness that i gave up the hunt, skipped browsing, and left the store. i get that everyone has a bad day occasionally ~ maybe that’s what was happening here? i might stop back in sometime when i’m feeling impervious to any potential grumpypants… my friend’s pen was *really* nice. fyi, apparently this place does invitations and stuff, too, but i don’t know anything about that.
