Petco

I’ve gone here for our pet food because it’s close to our home and they carry our brand so it made sense to have our dog bathed/​trimmed/​squeezed here. Until today… While the store staff is nice (reason for 2 stars and not 1), our dog requires prescription shampoo for skin allergies so we brought it with us and asked the groomer to please use it on him. Keep in mind, our dog is a short hair, no trim, no fuss/​groom dog! She told us there would be an extra fee for them to leave the shampoo on the extra 10 minutes the shampoo requires. I was shocked. I asked my friends who are professional groomers in other cities if this is an industry standard, if they do this, and they were shocked as well! We’re done and won’t go back. I’m sure this grooming service works for some, but not for us, or our baby, anymore! I wouldn’t recommend a grooming service to anyone that won’t go even a LITTLE above and beyond for our pets!

This is where I go when I need something for my pets. The store is bright and easy to navigate. They have lots of choices, and the staff are always very helpful when I ask for questions or advice.
Once I used their dog training service, and the lady helped us a lot for only going through it once. She had lots of good suggestions, led us toward some really healthy but cheap dog treats I still use.
Being able to bring dogs in the store is usually fun, and they let your animal test out their bulk dog treats. Sometimes they’ll even offer to open a bag for you to try. My only issue with them is their prices, some things are just more than I feel they should be-​so some of my business goes to online shopping. The high prices make sense in a way, cause their return policy is great, as long as 75% of the item is left you can take it back for any reason, so it is nice to try new things without risking my dog not liking it.

The place might be not perfect, but the staff are nice, they even told me what is wrong with my cat. There was one of the staffs that I heard has 9 cats and he told me what I was do bad for my cats. Thanks for your help.

I never rant about things on Unilocal,I just look at ratings and reviews on local business so I know what to expect. I feel compelled to share this experience because it is so severe, that the public deserves to know.
Yesterday I did my routine shopping for my dog food. The store was packed for vaccinations. As we approached the checkout, a gray and white pitbull snapped, kept trying to lunge, bearing its teeth and fixated on me, my sister and both of our dogs for no reason. It’s owner could barely hold it back. It was very unsettling and I, being someone who has worked with them has never seen this type of behavior. It wasn’t normal.
I left immediately after paying and called to file a complaint on the dog because I don’t feel safe there now. The manager I spoke with agreed that it’s «vicious, and untrainable» and that I’ll get a call from the store manager. My sister heard her say it because I use speakerphone a lot. I felt relieved she felt the same as me.
I did get that call today. He tried to save face through the whole thing told me all the employees didn’t see any issue; that it was going after the doberman at the tag machine. He even said thats what the video showed. The manager Charles Bradley literally LIED to me! It’s so patronizing. The dog fixated on us as we approached the checkout, not as we were standing there. All the employees present when it happened looked scared and shocked because it was so random. He said there was nothing he could do, and I then told him my dog is my service animal and he is documented. What would happen if I turned the corner in the store and run into him again? I may not be that lucky next time. He was silent. He downplayed the whole situation because he KNOWS there IS a liability here. I am not naïve. I know how a business runs. The reality is still the same no matter how you look at it. Denial will get them sued someday.
Save yourself some heartache and possible injury. They see no issue with this «vicious, untrainable» animal that’s there for «behavior training». In my professional opinion, that dog needs help Petco cannot provide. Someone or their pet will be maimed in that store before they can provide the healing that dog needs.
It’s sad because I spend around $ 300 a month in that particular store. I love the staff and have never had a bad experience with them or pit bulls until yesterday. I’m ruined now.

We absolutely love the staff at this Petco. Super friendly, always willing to help, so sweet to our pups. They are happy to search for coupons available and are sure customers receive the best deal possible with the best treatment. The return policy for food and treats is pretty great — if you tried a product your pet just didn’t like, they’re fairly willing to return or exchange it for something else. We attend puppy class with trainer Cindy, who’s fabulous and full of information. It’s been said this is the best Petco in Portland, and we’d have to agree!

Robin in grooming is the best at what she does! I have a large Standard poodle who’s groomer of 5 years moved away. Never thought Petco if all places would have such an experienced professional! My dog looks amazing and she loves Robin. Robin is a perfectionist that takes pride in her work and it definitely shows on the dogs she grooms.

For the location and the somewhat run down looking exterior, this store actually has a very large supply of items and a very friendly staff. I work down the street and go here often and always am treated very well. My dog loves this place too. The grooming prices are also very competitive.

I am only giving this place 2 stars because the customer service here is awesome. I know this sounds weird, but if I could, I would not give it one star.
The prices here a re insane. I am balling on a budget these days, like most Americans, and I can barely afford this place.
I asked a sales rep on the floor for help in finding me some food that is grain free and under 45 dollars. All the food here is expensive and if it is 45 and under it is because the weight differences. When I first started buying food here for my dog, the food was 40 – 45 dollars, and it was around 35 pounds. Through time the food has gone up in price, and down in weight. Where is the justification it that? I know it’s not the store and that it is the companies itself, but I am at a breaking point now. The 28 lb. bag is the biggest you can get, and it is now 60 dollars to get it. I am at my wits end with that.

I moved to this ‘hood 5 years ago and claimed PetSmart on JCB as my main pet store… but I’ve stopped by Petco this location as well as the L.O. location (near my work) a few times and they have since Won me over. THey have comparable prices to Petsmart, if not Better prices than. In addition, they sell products that PetSmart does not have available for example (Virback C.E.T. Enzymatic oral hygiene chews for dogs – My Vet. sells them, but it’s nice to get them at PetCo instead of running to my Vet’s office every month.) ANd, I also like how PetCo does the loyalty-​rewards program, it seems a lot more effective than PetSmart’s-IMO. ALso, today was the first time I took my dog to their grooming services-​and Jenna was very professional, and did a great job grooming my dog’s nails. IN addition, she was attentive and told me of a spot she noticed on my dog. I am def convinced, and will be supporting this location from now on. And, also I do understand what other people are saying, it is not as appealing as other stores since it is more set-​back from the street. But, the inside is really nice and I think that is all that matters.

First they did away with the «buy 10 bags, get one free» for food, then the price of the same dog food I have religiously bought for my dog for four years, was raised 20%, $ 9 per 30 lb bag. Really? I am sick of greed in this Country. The cost of living wage increases aren’t even meeting the ordinarily 5% per year consumer goods inflation, let alone this gross 20% price increase. Excuses are laughable for this increase by Castor Pollux and Petco.

I am totally okay with the actual Petco part of this store but WOULD NOT recommend the groomers to anybody who loves their dog. My usual groomer had recently been injured and my schnauzer needed a trim so at the suggestion of other I took him here and he got BUTCHERED. Never again, can’t wait until my real groomer sees the damage they did. She’s never going to recommend them ever again!

They have a great selection of premium dog foods. The help is non-​existent but since I used to work in a pet food store I don’t require much assistance.

Convenient location. Could use more staff, more shopping carts. I fill 4 litter containers at once & need a cart! Good prices. Good candidate for a remodel.

When I was in the need to buy some cat supplies, I had to think twice about where the nearest pet store was to my house, even though I go past this place to Fred Meyer all the time.
The reason for this hesitancy is because it kind of looks like a piece of crap from the outside, and usually has an empty parking lot, and I have thought on multiple occasions that it must be closed.
But, it is in fact open, and once you get inside it is quite nice. There is tons of ridiculous products for all of our furry friends here, with some cute displays.
The customer service was lacking though, as I looked around for quite a while without any one offering me assistance, and never was able to find exactly what I liked. Also, the cashier appeared to be hiding from me when I went to check out… they also don’t carry my preferred brand of cat food, Innova, so I probably won’t be a frequent shopping here.

Went here a couple of weeks ago to buy an automatic litter box. I got the litter maid — Unilocalers out there if you have cats that pee at all — DO NOT get the litter maid. It gets jammed no matter the litter you use (even the really spendy stuff) and sounds like a broken paper shredder. Again — if your cat pees at all *and most do* DO NOT GET THE LITTER MAID IT STINKS!
Anyway — I asked them about their return policy and they said 30 days with a receipt. After a week and I determined that the thing sucked — tore my house apart for the receipt — could not find it. I figured I was SOL — but called the location anyway. No problem they said — since I used my PetCo card — come back in and exchange or get a refund.
Based on other reviews I had done — I decided to get a Scoop Free. LOVE IT. I asked them to hold it for me — it was waiting by the register for me. I couldn’t figure out how to get the crappy one back in the packaging so brought them in separately — they didn’t care. The manager that was there also had a Scoop Free and loved it and gave me some helpful hints.
Very pleased with their customer service and assistance. Clean area and great staff.

Fil Chronicles, Day 7… Seems I’ve hit a soft spot for the multitudes of Unilocalers who have sent messages regarding Fil, and wishing him continued health. Well, I am pleased to announce he continues to do just fine. He is beginning to get a tad antsy if we go past the 2.5 hour mark… dammit! He wants his chow, NOW! He latches on to the eye dropper/​feeder, and takes his tiny talon’d paws and ‘milks’ the air or my fingers for more milk. He is enthusiastic to say the least! He hunkers down with his stuffed squirrel friend, and will make a bee-​line up a sleeve if I’m wearing a long sleeved shirt. He’s growing fur, and his muzzle is getting quite pronounced & ‘squirrel-​like’. One week into this Squirrel Business & I’m enjoying myself. It would be an understatement to say I’m quite fond of the little guy. Thank you, again, Unilocalers & Fil Fans…
