Wasn’t that impressed with the place. The food was good but pricey for your standard Mexican fare. The salsa that came with the chips was also very watery and way too spicy. The refried beans were very good and the portions plentiful, but I found my chimichanga to be chewy and not crispy at all, despite being deep-fried, and the fillings were lacking in flavor. Honestly, I was more impressed with the large Fred Meyer store across the parking lot.

Pretty wonderful food! Extremely fresh, large portions. Well worth the price, and there is a ton of menu options as well. The service was great and funny(they joked with our large table throughout the dining experience). I’m not from around here, but there were numerous things on the menu that I’d go back and try if I were. It’s easy to tell it’s authentic, west coast Mexican.

I’ve literally been going here since I was 5 years old. It’s my family’s favorite restaurant, it’s laid back, the staff is nice, it’s quick and the food is good. Not like gourmet but good regular Americanized Mexican food. My parents go all the time and the entire all the employees know them by name. It’s the kind of place where everybody knows your name, cheers Raul’s.

It’s rare these days that as you’re eating you say multiple times«this is amazing» but it was literally amazing! Best Mexican food I have had in literally years! We will definitely go back again… and again!

The food and drinks here are excellent. It is a little bit over priced for Mexican food but overall a good spot.

Had a wonderful family dinner here last night! Delicious food, excellent service and fantastic margaritas! The hot chips and beans and delicious salsa could be a meal in themselves but I can’t pass up the enchiladas and tamales. I can say they’re gluten free selections are truly such as my celiac wife has eaten here many times with success! Her favorite is the chicken tortilla soup and enchiladas. My favorite is the chimichanga and the wonderful salsa bar! Definitely satisfies my need for serious heat. We’ve had consistent success at Rauls and look forward to many more delicious evenings in the future.

I would have gone 1 ½ if I could have but I’ll be nice. Let’s start with what tasted like Ragu sauce on a chili relleno. Fo reals? And the Mexican tacos? The tacos I make at home are a far cry better than theirs. And who doesn’t like dry chicken and beef in their tacos?! Funny how so many people crow about how great the chips and salsa are. Their chips and salsa are standard fare, nothing to write home about. But at least the service was slow and lacking in any enthusiasm. The restaurant was nearly empty also. Seems like it’s dying to me. My favorite Mexican restaurant is Pepitas on CHB. I’m pissed I didn’t go there.

Unilocal didn’t let us down! Food came quick. Nacho was well toasted. I have the rose salad. Amazing. We didn’t have meat on either, so I can’t speak for that. Also, having bean dip with the chips and salsa was a nice touch. They were pretty busy!

I was actually surprised a little by this place. There is a lot of family mexican restaurants with this whole ambiance and feel that have disappointed before but not Rauls. We came at an odd time inbetween lunch and dinner so it was really dead. The server was very on top of the tables he did have and was very speedy. I ordered the steak taco salad(apparently the low calorie one? lol oops) and the meat was fantastic. I probably just would have ordered the meat alone it was that good. The prices over all seemed to be okay, kind of what you’d expect. I would definitely come here and try the carne asada and will be back again to try.

The service is great, the food is amazing, and the prices are not too high. The waiter is top notch and on top of anything we need. The food portions are huge and the taste is absolutely mouth watering!

Looks like we found a new Mexican spot! I would have usually not have given this place a shot based on it’s outside looks and location. It’s right across the parking lot at Fred Meyer’s but based on all the great reviews we decided to give it a shot. We were not disappointed! The kids meals were a little on the pricier side with it being a little over $ 6 per meal but the portions were decent and yummy. But here’s a pro tip: hit this place up on Sunday or Monday — kids eat FREE! We got some fresh(warm) chips, salsa and bean dip as soon as we sat down. Beware — the salsa and bean dip are on the spicy side, not kid approved. I wasn’t a fan of the Veggie Deluxe burrito. Yes, it was just as described but tasted«blah». It is filled with lettuce,(whole) beans and rice. Nothing special, but also not bad either. We were huge fans of the Margaritas though. Prepare to spend around $ 10 for a margarita but you’ll get what you pay for because the drinks were huge!

Awesome food. The chips and salsa are great and so we’re both entrees we ordered. Go try it yourself!

We were craving Mexican(not authentic mexican, more Americanized mexican) and this place hit the spot. Food was great, prices were also fair. Chips and salsa were GREAT. My only complaint is that they sat us alone in the front of the restaurant — so it was very easy for our waiter to forget about us. We spent a long… time…waiting…

Found this place through Unilocal and decided to try it. The service was pretty quick and Chips & Salsa came immediately after we were seated. I tried the Chicken Chimichanga and my wife had the Veggie Quesadilla. Both were pretty good and the rice/beans also tasted fresh. They had a salsa bar where they have like 5 – 6 different varieties of Salsa to pick from and they had real spicy ones too.

I can’t quite put my finger on it. I can’t tell what it is about this place that leaves me wanting more of something. It’s not the service. We’ve had some very, very friendly servers that have gone out of their way to make sure we’re taken care of and have what we need. It’s not the décor, because even thought it’s not how I would decorate a place, there’s nothing really wrong with it. It must be the sort of blandness of food. We’d been here about a year and half ago and weren’t in any rush to come back; but my daughter had a strong craving for tortilla soup and this place came to mind. We were promptly seated and given the customary beans and salsa. I’m not a spicy salsa person, but I also don’t like tomatoey salsa. It was good this day. The beans were also good or we were really hungry. We ordered our dishes and they were, well… ok. My daughter’s soup tasted sort of like broth with chicken and some tomatoes chopped in there. My husband and I had some enchiladas. They were ok, the chicken wasn’t seasoned and the red enchilada tasted just like an entomatada. I only ate one and boxed up the rest to bring home. Again, our server was very attentive, so no complaints there. We just left feeling like maybe we weren’t really satisfied. I’m not sure if that makes sense. I made tortilla soup a few days later at home and my daughter said THIS was what I was in the mood for(I start off with sautéed onion, chipotle, and garlic to build flavor). I guess Raul’s is just some place you’d have to try for yourself. I’d probably still be back, it’s just that there are a few other places I’d rather go to for tasty Mexican food.

We’ve been to this location twice already. Once before when it was Si Senior and the second time as Raul’s. I had good experience both times. Delicious complimentary chips, salsa, and bean dip. Atmosphere is very cute, long and narrow setting. Service was really good. Amount of food was plentifully displayed on a large plate. We normally get the combo meals. I upgrade and added Chimichanga as my third item, it was delicious. It’s a decent place to go to if you’re on this side of town.

I really wanted to find a treasure close to home for amazing Mexican food for myself and family. Unfortunately we struck out big time again. I ordered the house margarita on the rocks which tasted like watered down lime juice with a dash of tequila. I was hoping that the food would make up for it. My husband ordered the chicken enchiladas and I ordered the pozole. I ordered black beans and cheese with avocado for my son that is 18 months. Sundays kids are suppose to eat free but they charged us an arm and a leg for it. My husband chicken enchiladas were ok no spice no flavor and no zing. As for my pozole pictured it had a drumstick on the menu and looked very nice since it was a «chefs specialty». Receiving it I was hoping that it tasted better than it looked. I was wrong. It tasted awful and watered down and overly salty. It was like I was trying to drink ocean water. The waiter took the bowl away and asked if I wanted anything else. I said no thank you. The waiter came back and said he «waived» the cost of the margarita due to my horrible experience with the pozole. Ummmm what? The cost of the bowl of the pacific ocean cost more than a margarita and I drank the margarita. I didn’t eat the pozole. It was so loud and my son was getting antsy due to all the large party of soccer kids next to us. I will call a manager tomorrow and explain how awful the service was and how it was a slap in the face to get the margarita waived instead of the soup. I really wanted an authentic place to eat good Mexican food. I can tell you this much don’t go there unless your low on your sodium intake and like bland food and salt for dinner. Nothing on the menu felt authentic or any love to it.

Right off the bat the service was awesome, and it continued through out. You get chips, salsa, and refried beans to start with. I got one of the plate specials which had zucchini and pork; it was very tasty. He got the Raul’s burrito with carnitas. He thoroughly enjoyed it.

I am in the serious hunt for a decent sit down Mexican restaurant here in Portland. I know this establishment has amazing ratings, and want to give an amazing review, but can’t. Before hitting up forest park, I wanted to try somewhere different. Raul’s was on my bookmarks of places to try. I’ve had a couple of fellow Unilocalers suggest this restaurant. Raul’s is out of my way, but was worth to try. I was hankering on trying the chile rellenos. Our server described the way they make it seemed like the authentic way. They were out though, said it would be another hour before they had any. Oh well, try something else. We were sat and given chips and salsa, and a refried bean dip. I looked over the menu, a couple of times and decided on Tom’s tacos, which were essentially shrimp tacos. We also ordered Raul’s burrito which was a smothered burrito in green chile. I got the shrimp tacos, and they looked amazing. Unfortunately looks were not equivalent to taste. The shrimp tacos didn’t have any flavor, or sauce to them. The only accompaniment was pico, which didn’t do anything for the tacos. Maybe a little garlic, or seasoning or something would’ve helped. The burrito didn’t have green chile as advertised but some sort of tomato sauce, which was lacking. The server was very friendly, but the food was definitely not 4 – 5 stars worthy. The restaurant does have a Mexican feel to it. Reminds me of Mexico or being down south. I like to give them the benefit of doubt, and come back a second time. Maybe it’ll be everything fellow Unilocalers have described and more.

It’s a confirmed two star rating for clunky, awkward food and service. The refried beans are overly salty; the chicken is bland; and our tacos and burritos were overly cheesed. The Andes chocolate mints with the check was a highlight. Bland food; bland service.

I would even give 5 stars for this place just for the chips salsa beans and guacamole! The best I have had ever. The salsa is a bit spicy but bang on. The chips fresh hot and crispy. I couldn’t stop eating! Coming back to the food, we had the Fajitas tostada and enchiladas. The enchiladas were just okay… Chicken cooked well but a not so much flavors The Fajitas were fresh and hot. The chicken flavourful veggies cooked nicely. Enjoyed it The tostada was ok. Was loaded with lettuce. Not my favorite here I am just taking a star off because we had an insane wait time!
