I’ve been to Renner’s couple of other times, and it’s a pleasant place to have a drink, but I will never eat there again. I went there last night, ordered couple of burgers and had a drink. I was sitting at the bar with a view of the kitchen and the cook and was sickened by the way the cook was handling the food: no gloves, touching chicken, wiping his hands on his pants, and continue to touch other foods. That was just part of it. Forty minutes to get our food, my wife’s fries were room temp, disappointing. Then my friend told me today they were featured on Dirty Dining last night, apparently they passed with a 95, before that it was under 50. I don’t usually write negative reviews, but this place deserves it.

I don’t often go to bars because I don’t drink(anymore). That being said, there is no bar I feel more at home with then Renners. The burgers at to die for, I’ve never heard a complaint about their hard liquor drinks, and the staff/owner are more than welcoming, friendly, and willing to help you unwind after a hard day. If you want to have a «Cheers» like experience you have to come here. There is always a diverse crowd of people, and no matter who you are even the customers a kind hearted, and willing to extend a warm welcome. You’ll be glad you came. I personally hope I can join in welcoming you to this awesome establishment(although I mostly visit on Wednesdays because they play bingo around 8:30). Which is also more fun than you can ever imagine when you have a good buzz on.

Oh my goodness! I hadn’t been here in years. Last time I was here I didn’t even know they served food. Today I came for brunch and what an amazing culinary experience. I got a Frenchy burger while my friends got a breakfast skillet. Everything was scrumptious! The servers are cute and spot on with service. I am a food snob and I have to tell you… give this place a try. It’s awesome! And the bloody marys are off the charts too.

First thing I noticed, was some rancid smell at the entrance. At that point, we should’ve left and went somewhere else. We went in. I swear, I’ve had good experiences here in the past, but for some reason, the stars did not line up tonight. Got a seat in the bar area. Loud as shit because of the Warrior vs. Cavs game. Ordered our dinner. Our food took a solid 45 minutes to get it, as others who ordered after us, got theirs first. I won’t be coming back. There are better places.

I’ve done lunch here a couple of times so far. I’m not sure about the other folks reviews, but our server Ashley was terrific. I’m really a fan of their burgers – their juicy flavorful and theres enough variation on the menu to satisfy most. The Frenchie with ground chuck stuffed with brie on a ciabatta with gruyère is killer. The pricing is very competitive too – especially compared with more popular but lesser burgers at trendier spots on the east side.

New to the area, decided to check it out. Some of the worst service I have experienced in a long time. Waited about 15 minutes to even get some menus(the server greeted us) and another 15 minutes until we actually ordered. We partially went in to check it out because of the free Jell-O shots via Unilocal check in… those never came. Took another 15 minutes to get our check after we ate. We were pretty much ignored the whole time. The server/bartenders were either chatting with what appeared to be regulars the entire time or were serving right at the bar and not out in the lounge. Most likely will not return which is a shame since the food was pretty good and fairly priced.

It’s a Sunday morning at 9am and two of the customary brunch places in Multnomah Village have huge lines already, so I decided that I’d give Renners a try for breakfast. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with vinyl booths, brick facad interior walls to give the space a warm feel. Becca at the coumter greeted me and told m to sit anywhere I would like… easy choice… they had English Preimere League soccer on the big screen TV. I choose a booth in easy viewing distance. Close enough to the counter hear that this place has local regulars who know and love it here. Becca seemed to know them all. Wasn’t sure what to order another first, then I remembered what I’d come in here for. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with two eggs. Becca warned me it would be a big portion, and I could order a half if I wanted. Of course, I took the challenge of the whole order. The two biscuits were huge. The«redeye» gravy was delicious. So I missed out on being crammed into a counter and waiting an hour at the other places and had an enjoyable leisurely breakfast at Renners. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying out the rest of the breakfast items and this hidden gem in the village.

Okay these people did great. Like absolutely killed it. We came here after being very disappointed at another spot and were starving and looking forward to playing some bingo. We showed up and the server some how got these two people occupying this large booth to move for our party of 6 – 8 people. Which he seemed to do almost immediately and we didn’t even really ask. With in the first 5 minutes of being here and not even being served yet, I’m already impressed. Once seated, he arrived almost immediately to get our drinks and remembered them all by heart and we waited only a few minutes for his return. Now for this place being quite loud and very packed and being in the industry my self… this guy wins. Upon return, he took our food order also with out writing it down and once again nails it. We waited only like 10 – 15 minutes for food and he was on top of it for bringing drinks. Bingo eventually starts and you get 4 bingo boxes for $ 1(we all bought multiple obviously) and the guy on the mic was funny and entertaining.(I would have suggested him turning the music down… slightly while he was calling out numbers). After a few rounds, this place eventually died out as did we but the vibe was still very fun and service was still great. I would definitely recommend hitting this place in Multonomah village… also because there isn’t too many other bars around in the area, so I would make this place your first/or last stop!

Unless you are a local, you will be ignored. The main problem is the lack of a bartender. Wait staff get distracted by making drink orders and chatting with locals instead of tending to assigned tables. 30 minutes for two cans of beer was way beyond an allowable time for service while the table next to us who knew the waitress by name had drinks rolling in nonstop. I feel I could really like the place if they could fix this.

I often use Unilocal reviews to get a feel for a place I’ve never tried. I have not actually written a review until now. I feel compelled to write this after our experience last night. My boyfriend and I have visited Renner’s a handful of times after moving to the area two years ago. We have had a couple of great experiences, but our last two or three visits have left something to be desired. We keep trying this place because the food is good, they pour great drinks(nothing weak there), and they have a decent beer list. I like the joint: a divey feel, small, dimly lit, and always hopping. My main issue is with the service. I’m a pretty forgiving person. Especially when it comes to restaurant workers… because I, once upon a time, worked as a server and understand that timeliness, quality of food, prices, etc. doesn’t always fall on the server. On one visit, we sat at the bar to have some drinks. It took quite a while to be served and after we we got our first drinks, and finished them, we waited… and waited for the bartender to come back around. She never did. We watched her, as she leaned on the other side of the bar, chat up some customers, serve drinks to that side of the bar, and literally never even glance our way for about a half an hour. We could have left and she wouldn’t have even noticed. When she finally made it mid-way down the bar, we had to get her attention so we could ask for the tab. We had intended to order more drinks but we were so frustrated by this point that we decided to leave. Last night, we sat at a table to order food and drinks, and we had the same person wait on us. Although she was much faster to take our orders, she didn’t say hello, smile or offer any pleasantries when she approached our table. She asked for our drink order, incorrectly described a beer, and was back at our table within ten seconds because she had forgotten what we both ordered. She came back with the drinks and took our food order. When the food finally arrived(by another girl who was equally unfriendly), my boyfriend was served an incorrect dish. He ordered the chicken sandwich with crispy chicken and ended up with grilled chicken. The extra pickles I ordered came, but on his plate. I had the cheese burger with a side salad(don’t order the balsamic vinegar dressing — it tasted like the cheap stuff you get at the grocery store). The food was good — no complaints there. But it seemed like serving customers was the last thing our waitress wanted to be doing. Like, she would rather be doing ANYTHING else. I get that we all don’t want to go to work sometimes, but when customer service IS your job, you need to put a little effort into it. Fake it if you have to. We would have stayed longer but we were put off once again and decided to go somewhere else. In comparison, when we walked into The Ship after, we were immediately greeted with a warm hello and served drinks right away. And that place was busy, it being a Saturday night and all. Not sure if we’ll head back to Renner’s again. We’ve given it multiple tries and when it seems like they don’t want you there, why even bother? P. S. Why is the music so loud? It is SO loud. It’s hard to hold a conversation in there.

I think the best dive bar in SW! Been here a couple times but this was the first time we ate. We had biscuits and gravy. It was great. Order the half order, it’s plenty. Bloody Mary’s were good, not too spicy but also not just tomato juice. The bar tender was attentive and food came fast. They have a large happy hour menu. We will totally be back.

Hey owners of Renner’s, Maybe one bar tender and a bar back isnt enough staff for a Saturday night plus blazers game. Waiting a half hour to order was great but waiting 45 minutes for a check was even better. I’m actually writing this as I continue to wait for service and the game ended an hour ago and the place is mostly empty. I came in with low expectations but jesus christ.

Great burger, rude server. We had questions about the IPA after she mentioned grapefruit which(I guess) sent her over the edge. Totally blew us off on placing our order. My burger was wrong(ordered plain and dry), she brought it back to kitchen and it came back with a ton of mayonnaise on it. Really wanted to like this place — cozy and good burger, but the attitude from our waitress was a real bummer. Won’t be back.

I am gonna have to give this place a second chance. We went there during a street fair. They had Karaōke outside which was cool, but the tracks, selection and sound system were really subpar. The some of the waitstaff were friendly but bewildered. Other guest bartending waitstaff that day were just really obnoxious. The one server told us that she was a «„celebrity guest bartender“» that night. I guess she felt so self important that it trumps my wedding ring and starts aggressively attempting to flirt with my husband. Not cool. Not nice. This is the mark of a troubled person of low character. Owners should take note of this behavior as this is a major turn off to quality patrons. Another weird thing is that we tried to order food about 10P. They did they stereotypical Portland thing and hinted but didn’t outright explain that after a certain hour they can serve food and they have full menu but nobody really does. They said«We just have it listed because it is law that you have to serve food with adult beverages after a certain hour.» But they took our order anyway??? Huh??? But then they conveniently ran out of what we wanted to order and then totally lost our bill. How about telling the patron«the kitchen is closed,» or «the cook is not here and I can’t take your order???» I will prob drop by again and check this place out in a few years. Not anytime soon. Major fail. Sad. At least the drinks were cheap. If this place was cool as my other reviewing friends suggested, we might have become regular patrons.

Highly, Highly recommended. They have great drinks, a good tap selection, and incredible food. Their happy hour is awesome(and dirt cheap) and the staff is vivacious, friendly, and quite funny. They also do some of the best oyster shooters I’ve had in Portland. They tend to pack up at night, but it is absolutely worth the wait and/or dealing with the crowd. Between this place, o’connors, and the ship, one can have a pretty decent night out in Multnomah village.

Food made here — not frozen pre-fab, preservative laden grossness. I appreciate it! Thank you, Renner’s, for taking customer service, food and drink seriously. I’ve been here many times at various times of day. Morning breakfast is killer on the weekend when I don’t feel up to cooking and their portions are huge! You may want to share a meal. I’ve also met friends to catch a Blazer game and have a burger. Servers are always kind and I enjoy going back each time.

Best grub in Multnomah Village. I’ve probably averaged a visit to Renner’s every week since moving to Multnomah Village in early March. Cheap drinks, great food, friendly service and an eclectic group of personalities make Renner’s my absolute favorite spot in the village. Any time I have an out of town visitor this is the«local bar» I take them to. This place is an unsung hero for a hungover Sunday morning brunch. Prices are beyond reasonable and portions are generous. Did I mention pudding shots? Pudding shots!

Renners is an excellent neighborhood bar. The ambience is cool and the food is good. Staff has always been friendly. At times, the place is problematically loud. On Wed night bingo nights, in particular. So, if you are looking for a peaceful chill on a Wed night, Renners may not be the place to go. Besides the problems with the music being played too loud, the place is awesome. Hopefully they will address the excessive loudness of the music, as doing this would make the place unbearably cool.

This place was downright awful. The sub par food and rude service will deter me from coming back. I order the Caesar salad and a iced tea. Simply enough? My wilted lettuce was watery and unclean, and my tea was weak. Save yourself time and head across the street.

I have never had a bad meal at Renners! I love their peanutbutter burger, their fries, their specials. The seating is limited, and it can be a bit noisy, but Renners is still a great place to go! The only thing I dislike is the restroom. That said I will continue to go there for their food.

I’m glad Renner’s is my sister’s favorite neighborhood dive because she insisted on sharing the glory with us– now it’s MY favorite dive in Multnomah Village, too. It’s a dim and cozy dive bar with awesome bartenders, drinks strong enough to give my cheeks the insta-drunk flush, and some seriously amazing food! My Farmhouse Burger– with patty, ham, bacon, fried egg, gruyère cheese and fixins– was absolutely delicious and their in-house«fry sauce» was so good I put it on everything. Plus they took the Jello shot concept one step further and serve pudding shots– yes you read that right. Go to Renner’s and get one right now! Other than the overhead music being a little too loud and a little too smooth jazz, Renner’s was a complete 5 star experience. Sum’s tips: make liberal use of their fry sauce if you order food, and be sure to Unilocal check-in for a free Jello shot.

Awesome wings. The kicker is they are not your typical wings. They are gigantic drumsticks. They are a must try. The drinks were spot on, bartender was super nice and drinks were spot on. We will stop in again when we are in the neighborhood. Cute little bar in Multnomah village

It’s a dive bar in Multnomah Village. I wasn’t expecting much, and braced myself for sticky tables, gruff staff and oven-warmed food. Boy, was I wrong! Renner’s impressed me in every aspect — sure, the décor is your average hole-in-the-wall and it’s dim and slightly cramped, but it’s clean and welcoming. The staff, from the bartenders to the servers, is friendly and clearly competent. The food was the real surprise here. I wasn’t expecting any gourmet treats to blow me out of the water, but what I got was far above your standard dive fare. The chicken sandwiches and loaded hot dogs are hearty, simple fare cooked to perfection. I still dream about the mini corndogs in an entirely lowbrow, guilty-pleasure way. Prices are super reasonable, although the $ 2.50 Bloody Mary isn’t really worth it unless you’re really looking to get drunk. But I’m a bit of a Bloody Mary snob. Awesome happy hour — and bingo on Wednesday nights! Renner’s is my new local go-to for a quick bite and drink when I’m craving that casual comfort.
