The cocktails were tasty, the fried Brussels Sprouts were absolutely fantastic and the salads were great. The steak was not seasoned well and the space was so so so loud. Not sure if the windows are single paned, but the tables next to them are very drafty. Might have just been an off night, but that was my experience.

Just finished an amazing meal from Roost. My boyfriend and I walked in at 8:30 on a Friday night and were able to pick one of five tables to sit down. We ordered drinks(The White Spider and The Brown Derby) and The Winter Plate to start off. All three were great. For the main course we split the Raddichio and Beet Salad with bacon, dill, and goat cream; along with the Quarter Roasted Chicken with parmesan couscous. Both were out of this world. The chicken was juicy, yet the skin was just crispy enough to give good texture and flavor to the dish. The salad was nicely balanced and the goat cream worked well as the dressing. We had another round of drinks: I doubled up on The White Spider and my boyfriend had The Fox Tail. The Fox Tail was possibly the favorite of the night(Rye, molasses, mint, lime, and pomegranate). Everything was superb and we will definitely keep Roost in mind for our next trip to Portland. Do yourself a favor and«Come Home to Roost.»

Met family for Sunday brunch and had some very tasty food… esp the griddle toast. The seating was great even though the place is small.(The tables are well situated so that there’s privacy within one’s group.) The noise level was fairly loud with the echo of everyone’s chatting since there’s little building material for sound to be absorbed. But all in all we had a wonderful time at Roost.

The restaurant is beautiful, with lots of big windows and an open area to watch the preparation. The food is always glorious and the produce used is fresh and local and imaginative. The food presentation is wonderful and the service is attentive, not fake smily, just pleasant and attentive. Any special requests are met with openness and the wine selection pairs well with the menu. I think this is a great place and am surprised there aren’t lines to get in everyday of the week.

I thought we were actually going out to eat an actual meal, not a suggestion of a meal. The prices were high, and there was literally 6 potatoes on my plate. For example, eggs and bacon with toast is $ 10.50! Way overpriced and not a good portion size! They should spend less money on adding Japanese charcoal to the water and more money providing more substantial portions for their customers. The only saving grace was their staff, who all were awesome.

Roost is a hidden GEM. Every time I come here for dinner I turn into a huge food snob and I can’t believe what I’m eating. Everything is seasoned and cooked to perfection while not being intimidating or overwhelming. I happily recommend this place to anyone who is tired of waiting in long queues to get less than stellar food just because it’s part of the Portland«buzz». The food is incredible but the cocktails, service, quality and ease of acess are no slouch either. Dinner here may be my favorite in town. Tip: every time, every fish dish, every appetizer breaded in panko… the best.

Came here for brunch and was just blown away. Got the steak with cream sauce, potatoes and griddled toast. The toast tasted like it was browned in half a stick of butter and was the best kind of naughty breakfast accompaniment. Very flavorful dish! Got the pot of french press and it was strong and a really good deal. Definitely had the zoomies after a couple of cups of that. And most importantly, the service was fantastic. The gals that waited on our table were very friendly and were genuinely happy to help. Got to love service with a smile! Will definitely come back. The brunchy cocktails looked wonderful!

I didn’t have a problem with the wait, or the food which was good but not exceptional. Although my daughter found a good sized piece of eggshell in her dish. W I did have a huge problem with was the service-slopped coffee in the saucer and just a «sorry». The staff really needs more training. Next time I am in Portland I might give it another try. However, a quieter time than Sunday brunch-noise level was way too high for decent conversation.

Just lovely, we came in on a rainy Tuesday night and found ourselves right at home here. Clean lines, inviting with no frills to draw your attention away from the food. Well planned and laid out as you catch glimpse of the kitchen through the large sliding doors at the back of the space. Always being reviewed for breakfast and brunch the space has a fantastic dinner menu to boot. From the fried Cauliflower with Bagna Cauda in their bites list to the pan roasted Halibut in the dinner menu, you can’t go wrong. The wine list pairs just right with each item on the menu as we enjoyed a clean and vibrant Prosecco and watched the rain come down through the large windows at the front of the space. Just like the morning reviews, I highly recommend trying their dinner menu to get the whole experience.

Seriously the best food I have ever eaten. Brunch: wow. Side door chicken sandwiches: I can’t quit you. Dinner: Must have. Dessert and drinks: yes, please! Perfect for date night or comfort food alone. Great wine selections.

Celebrated a friends birthday with dinner at Roost yesterday. Unforgettable meal, from the starters to the entrée. Brussels sprouts & cauliflower starters were heavenly! The salmon entrée, the steak and the burger were also great. The only thing the evening lacked was good service. There was only one server, seating, taking orders and bartending the whole restaurant. I hope this is not the norm but an exception! It’s not fun when your server keeps forgetting your order, attempts to fill up your glass while pouring water on the table and never even realizes that! And this cost Roost a star.

Excellent place for brunch and coffee. I had steak with leak sauce and sunny-side-up eggs. It came with two slices of delicious brioche bread. If you are around, you should consider giving Roost a visit.

This place is simple and sophisticated. Also, someone smart added a charcoal stick to their water… yes. I mainly go here for breakfast on the weekend, their shtick is «eggs till 2». I really could just order one of everything on the menu and be happy. But I won’t because one dish is plenty filling. Sometimes the service sucks and I’ve found hair in my food before, and yeah, if you come on the weekend for brunch and don’t get there right when they open you’ll have to wait… but I highly suggest it for breakfast(up to 4 people because it’s quite small).

I’m not sure what a sunny day tastes like, but the Pea purée with poached eggs sure is close. So fresh and light. The crispy bacon was perfect. The portions were ample. This little gem, minimalist in nature, could have been located in Finland. What a wonderful experience.

I had Mother’s Day brunch at Roost today with my wife and parents, and even this evening I’m still thinking about how awesome it was. I ordered the«sliced steak» dish. It was sliced up hanger steak on top of toast with romesco, arugula and avocado. IT. WAS. SO. GOOD. I would eat it every Sunday morning if I could. I also told them that I like my eggs over hard, and they cooked them perfectly. Everything was perfectly seasoned. It was just crazy good. Our served was super nice and attentive. All around a kick ass experience. I’ll be back FOSHO!!! Roost Management: If you’re reading this, tell your Mother’s Day crew that they slayed it.

I had this place bookmarked after hearing stellar reviews for the brunch. I have to say the modern décor is beautiful. The food though was not very impressive. The cream cheese omlette was too salty and the toast was just OK. They serve stumptown coffee which was good. Considering that Portland has many excellent brunch places I don’t think Roost holds up to a top level brunch place.

Food boner!!! This breakfast was excellent. The flavors were executed with perfection. The food came out quickly and knocked our socks off. They might need to address the coffee situation but we won’t hold it against them: P

I chose Roost for my birthday dinner and it was excellent from start to finish. We ordered the fried cauliflower appetizer, as instructed, and the anchovy sauce was surprising. We’d go back for the cauliflower alone. Thee service was impeccable. The waiter was attentive, but not annoying at all. My husband had a delicious burger with perfect fries and I had chicken and root vegetables over sweet potatoes(not yams). Everything was the right temp done perfectly. That’s not something I have encountered often in Portland. Temperatures vary, but this was perfect. It felt intentional. I like the layout of the restaurant. It feels warm and minimal all at once. We walked away with a warm feeling, which makes us want to return.
