Kind of a hidden gem of the Oregon coast. It’s an hour and fifty minutes away from Portland so not exactly and easy place to get to but after a day on the coast, it’s a beautiful way to end the day. The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is low-key. It looks like a mom and pop diner; cozy, warm, very small town. The food is fantastic! The mac n’ cheese was incredibly flavorful and rich. Unfortunately, it was little too rich for me to finish in one sitting but I’m a firm believer in leftovers, so I didn’t mind, lunch for another time. The prices are steep so a dinner for two can easily be about $ 60-$ 70. Worth it though in my opinion 5 star.

What I value about Schooner Creek is that they do high-quality work and they’re trustworthy. When my boat needs some work, I can talk to them about it with confidence that they’ll suggest the right thing and then do it right. My main contact is Mark Gray, and he’s great to work with and always right on top of things.

Schooner Creek Boat Works is a full-service well run facility with ample staff and resources. It’s the only full service boat yard in the area that also lets the owner work on the boat while it’s on stands. They bottom-painted my sailboat and did some minor hull damage and blister repairs. All turned out well. My issue with them is that they are forbiddingly expensive. They charged me a couple hundred dollars just to write up the repair estimate. I have had contractors and body shops give me written estimates before, but I can’t imagine them ever charging for it. Additionally, they wanted $ 750 to remove and replace a pin stripe on the boat. I think I can get that done for a couple hundred by any detail shop. I had damage to my sailboat rudder, and they said that it will be cheaper to buy a new one than trying to get it repaired($ 950). I got the rudder repaired elsewhere for $ 175. I understand the overhead and expense of running a large boat yard like Schooner, but I also think they need to be more efficient and lean in performing routine tasks. Charging $ 100/hr to write a repair estimate is preposterous.
