Justin might just be the best bar owner i’ve ever dealt with in Portland, great little dive venue and a deep appreciation for FOPO bands and artists In this two block stretch you’ve got Da Hui, Double Treble, Bar Carlo, O’Malley’s, etc. but Starday stands alone as the only place I grab a brew in this neighborhood!

Group review: –a lot of people here. You can choose your own music on the jukebox which is fun, there’s a wide selection of music. Generally it seems like they play like Adams family music or something. It’s not sketchy at all and they have rainbow Christmas lights and it smells pleasantly like corn dogs. It’s very clean. –I really appreciate the holiday lighting — tis the season! The vibes are good and the juke box is loud! It has all my fav early 2000s rnb. They have tecate light, which I really appreciate since I’m training for a triathlon rn. –I’m sad. These people are all laughing at me. Is it because I’m so skinny? What’s the point anymore? I wish I was dead. After I chug this beer, I’m jumping off the Ross. — you can’t use the f word in the Unilocal review, Blake. –this place is pretty cool! It’s like not that cool but it’s cool because cool people are here. Solid 3.9÷5. The bathroom graffiti fucking sucks if we’re being real. –Very charismatic. Fun vibes. Love the lampshades and Christmas ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

There are a bunch of bars all clustered near each other on Foster… the Starday is the only one with free hugs and Genghis skittering around. Its a rad little bar and the new owners are doing a great job. It wont be long before word of mouth gets out about this chill little tavern.

Have been frequenting this spot since the new owners, Justin & Shannon, took over ownership. It feels more like kicking it in your best friends cool man cave than it does a public bar — that’s how warm and friendly the Starday Tavern is! It has everything you could want in a neighborhood dive — cheap drinks, varying food menus from phở to BBQ(typically brought in from FoPo neighborhood chefs, food cart folks, but sometimes Justin will even make ya a corn dog if you ask), live bands, DJs, dance parties, Blazers package, football, trivia night, karaōke, jello shots, video poker, the cutest dog in town(Ghengis), and best of all FREEHUGS upon arrival from the bartenders. If you are within a 2 mile radius — who am I kidding — if you’re in Portland, come on over and meet the crew behind the bar and the regulars and find out what homegrown PDX is all about.

Fantastic little dive. Some of my buddies play open mic here on Thursday nights so I’ve been showing up on the odd Thursday. Even though the place is a little sleepy I really like the atmosphere. Plus, Blazin Ribs and Teriyaki just opened up in there so they have some pretty killer looking food options. Josh, the bartender, is super nice and down to earth and is an asset to the place. If you’re ever on Foster and need a drink don’t overlook this hidden gem!

The new owners who actually work there are some of the greatest people I’ve ever met! You can expect how things from these guys, and their fat little meatloaf of a dog, Ghengis. Starday is a comfy little live music dive, located in the«last bastion» of a neighborhood in Southeast, affectionately known as FoPo. Charmingly, rough[er] around the edges, this is where you go to get a taste of old Portland, and all of its friendly, inviting, small-town-feel, everybody-knows-you’re-name, type of spot. This bar embodies every element of that sentiment. So, if you’re down for cheap booze, live music, and a few smiles, stop in soon!

This place is a gem on Foster. Think cozy neighborhood hang out spot. Started the evening with some tasty suds. Local IPAs on tap at friend prices and even Hamms for less than $ 2. Enjoyed some killer local music(Stone Face Honey and Lark). The vibe was chill with a mixed crowd seemingly all there just to decompress from the work week. The bartender was friendly and played awesome house music between bands. Check it out!

While the live music was phenomenal, Starday Tavern was not quite as grand. $ 1 Taco-Tuesdays seem exciting at first, but a hard shell with ground beef and some toppings left me rather disappointed. Drinks were pretty good and the décor is nice. I especially like the bar area. They could have a wider spirits selection, a nicer scotch would have been enjoyed by a few of us. Overall we had a good time, but unless a kick ass band is playing, I don’t know if we will be going back.

Came here over the weekend with friends to listen to some country music. It’s a small bar that’s long and skinny. The stage is right up by the front door. The crowd was more hipster than I expected but there was a decent mix of people. Everyone was having a good time and the place has a friendly local vibe. A solid A-OK experience.

We were across the street having a good time at the Gemini but when the music started up at Starday Tavern that’s when we headed over. Great music, sweet bartender, good pour and fun locals. We’ll definitely be back.

Great service and great food. Recently came under new management for an old bar. Seems to be managing completely up to par with what everyone is used to. The bartenders are great. They recently hired a really cute red headed girl that offers excellent service and made good drinks. The beers here are much cheaper than most places in Portland which makes it a definite yes. Bar snacks were great as well! Will definitely return!

New management and name for an old dive bar. They have live music about 5 days a week starting early, at 8. That draws a less rowdy neighborhood crowd of more varied ages than other establishments nearby. A small selection of taps included macros, Burnside Brewing and Ft George. Full bar and basic food: nachos, chili, dogs and burgers. WiFi. $ 1 taco Fridays. The room is long and narrow, with a small stage in front by the window, tall tables with barstools and a few booths. Great staff excited to create a new FoPo spot.
