The Qigong and Taiji at Sungate studio are amazing. Very grounded in the Shamanic roots of the lineage brought to the west by Master Zhongxian Wu. Qigong is a beautiful traditional self-cultivation practice which has real benefits for health, emotional balance and karma. We are lucky to have access to these rare practices, especially in such a cohesive and grounded way. The teachers are dedicated and hold beautiful healing space that is inclusive and open to all. I can’t recommend it more highly, these practices have truly changed my life in profound and lasting ways, and the Sungate community is very supportive and welcoming. On any day of the week you can drop in and enter the qi field. The yoga classes are great as well!

I’ve had profound healing from Ryan Powell’s Qigong classes and I’ve just taken two classes! He is an incredibly warm, clear, encouraging and heart-centered teacher. After a qigong class with Ryan I feel the physical, emotional and mental benefits as if I have just attended a powerful acupuncture session, yoga class and meditation session — that’s the best way I could describe it. However, I feel qigong does more for the entire system than any of those individual modalities have given me. Ryan’s instruction is very gentle and there is a wide age range of people who have attended class. I have not taken class from anyone else, but I’m very excited to. Sun Gate Studio also has live music events, and a true community spirit. The people who teach and study there, create a very unique home-like quality to the space, classes and concerts. I am could not be more thrilled to have discovered qigong and Sun Gate all in one inspiring summer! Portland, we are so lucky to have qigong at Sun Gate! You must give it a try!!!

I’m brand new to yoga(late bloomer), so I decided to find a Groupon. I’ve been to Hatha yoga twice at Sun Gate and I have to say I’m a huge fan so far. It is a little«woowoo», but it doesn’t bother me. The gal who teaches the Tuesday evening class is very helpful and very aware of my novice. She’s great at suggesting modifications and such. I think there are a lot of beginners right now so the whole class is tailored towards beginning moves. It is a bit small, but intimate. My only complaint is that they don’t offer many beginning class times. I’m pretty stuck with my current time and day, but I think I’ll be able to move on to other classes fairly quickly.

Sun Gate has a great atmosphere and is clearly run by folks who are passionate about their practice. So far I have attended early morning Shadow Yoga classes taught by the knowledgeable and dedicated Lita Batho. This is the earliest morning yoga offering that I know about in my neck of the woods and it has been a nice way to start my mornings(it’s offered M, W, and F and I admit I don’t make it every time). I look forward to trying other offerings at Sun Gate(Qigong, meditation, Tai Chi…).

This is a very warm and welcoming studio for people of all levels of experience and ability. The qigong classes are very unique compared to other types of qigong I’ve experienced. I leave class feeling centered and rejuvenated! I have joint damage due to rheumatoid arthritis, and Ryan the owner/instructor is very encouraging and accepting. There are chairs available for those who need them. Sun Gate studio is a wonderful addition to the Alberta neighborhood!

I was fortunate to go to the opening of this new small studio. They offer yoga, tai chi, quigong, massage, tea ceremonies and classes in Indian raga singing. The quigong and tai chi traditions are unique compared to other opportunities in Portland. The people involved have a warm community spirit. It is a labor of love for the founders who have been dreaming of creating this exact space for some time.
